Nestled in the charming town of Strasburg is Clementine's Vintage, a gem admired by both locals and visitors alike. Valley Today host, Janet Michael recently had the pleasure of sitting down with the store's owner, Sue Haynes, for an engaging conversation about the store's journey, unique offerings, and dedication to supporting small businesses. Clementine Vintage is Sue's ‘happy place,' and she shared how the store serves as a dual purpose – a sanctuary and a hub for her creative and business endeavors. Janet couldn't help but notice items like a little hat with orange flowers, showcasing the unique and eclectic nature of the store's inventory. The store has evolved significantly over its seven-plus years. Originally focusing on furniture, Clementine's Vintage had to pivot during the pandemic. Sue recalled, “Birthdays still happened, right? Anniversaries, weddings… So we brought in more gift-type items,” emphasizing their mission to offer unique, thoughtful gifts primarily from local or other small businesses. Janet and Sue's discussion naturally flowed into their shared love for curating and picking unique items, particularly from markets like Luckett's. Sue's passion for repurposing vintage items was evident as she described her inspirations and favorite finds. “I love when you can repurpose something for a whole new purpose,” she shared, revealing her knack for giving new life to old items. A highlight of the conversation was Sue's collaboration with Brie from Good Bone Vintage. Despite a significant age difference, their shared love for unique shopping and vintage clothing has made their partnership a success. “Brie has been a great addition,” Sue noted, as she complimented Brie's meticulousness in curating and presenting vintage clothing. Plants have also become a significant part of Clementine Vintage's offerings post-pandemic, adding a fresh green aesthetic to the shop. Sue's tips on using vintage vessels for plants and old glass dishes as water catchers provided practical and charming ideas for listeners. Expanding beyond plants and clothes, Clementine's Vintage also offers items like soaps, candles, and jewelry, emphasizing handmade products with good ingredients sourced from small businesses. Timeless items like spoon rings and handmade earrings add to the store's eclectic mix, ensuring there's something for everyone. Janet highlighted the importance of Sue's neighborhood spirit, pointing out Clementine Vintage's participation in events supporting fellow small business owners like Cristi from The Buttercup in Woodstock. The upcoming 'Chin Up Buttercup' event showed the community's solidarity, rallying around Cristi during her health struggles. Learn more about this event at these links: Chin Up, Buttercup Facebook event; Black Valley Creative; and A New Day Cleaning raffle information. Sue's enthusiasm and commitment to small businesses were commendable. “We're all part of this neighborhood,” she said, emphasizing the importance of supporting one another in times of need. Janet concluded by encouraging listeners to check out Clementine Vintage and other local businesses, lauding Sue's efforts to create a space that serves as both a store and a community beacon. Clementine Vintage stands as a testament to the power of community and the beauty of repurposing the old into something new and treasured. As Sue aptly put it, “Nobody appreciates your business like a small business does,” encouraging everyone to shop small and shop local.

"We won in Paris by winning every day." For Asia Hogan-Rochester, rugby wasn't part of the plan — until it became their world. The Toronto native went from going to gym class in jeans to standing on the Olympic podium, silver medal in hand. Asia shares how growing up, "I wasn't an athlete. My sport was yapping." But, at 17, Asia picked up a rugby ball. Their friend's older sister (now teammate), Charity Williams, had returned to high school with an Olympic medal and as Asia shares, “I finally saw someone from my community who looked like me — and who believed I could do this, too.” That moment ignited a spark that became a fire for Asia, and after seeing the power of a role model firsthand, they hope to be that person for others. "Rugby is for everyone." Asia goes a step further, encouraging individuals to stop waiting and to get in the game. “If you're waiting to see someone who looks like you, stop waiting. Be that person for someone else.” While Asia has had incredible success, they have also had quite a few setbacks including a devastating ACL tear that nearly sidelined their Olympic dreams. But with grit (and glitter), Asia came back stronger, helping Canada qualify for the Paris Games and eventually stand toe-to-toe with powerhouses like New Zealand. In our conversation, Asia opens up about injury recovery, mental health, and the power of representation. She urges you to not “wait to be confident." Whether scoring tries or growing their social media presence, Asia is proof that you can shine — both on the field and off. Their ask? “If you've thought about trying rugby…this is your sign. Do it.” --------------- Flame Bearers is a multi media movement, illuminating the unsung stories of exceptional women athletes from around the world. Send us a textA life serving Jesus can lead us to difficult places where God wants to use us. We can easily get discouraged because we can't see the positive results we want to see immediately. But God's work behind the scenes is taking our labor and using it for His Kingdom which we can't yet see. But sometimes we may only do a little and the results are eventually really good. It's not because of us rather, God is bringing His work into view. So we stay the course knowing we are doing the work of the ministry and when God wants to prosper it He will.

This week Melanie processes her A&M / Notre Dame feelings (in addition to her game-time dehydration issues), and I'm ticked that my beloved Bulldogs are not, in my opinion, receiving the recognition that a lifetime member of the Southeastern Conference should receive. Mostly, though, we're just delighted that college football is all the way back - and we continue to be curious about how Nick Saban is going to handle the whole Pat McAfee / GameDay situation. In this episode of Shark Theory, hosted by Baylor Barbee, the focus is on the importance of mindset when facing adversity. Reflecting on a compelling analogy from a coaching video, the episode contrasts "hands-up" and "hands-down" mentality among athletes, extending this concept to real-life scenarios. Baylor emphasizes the significance of maintaining a "chin up" attitude to approach challenges with resilience and poise. Throughout the episode, Baylor discusses the behaviors and body language that distinguish leaders who inspire confidence and those who succumb to frustration. Using vivid examples from sports and professional environments, he illustrates how adopting a "hands down, chin up" approach can transform not only personal outlook but also the morale of those around you. This episode is particularly insightful for anyone looking to improve their leadership skills and handle adversity with a calm, collected demeanor. Key Takeaways: Hands-Down Mentality: Maintaining a composed and proactive stance in adverse situations instead of complaining or blaming external factors. Chin-Up Attitude: Keeping an optimistic and forward-looking perspective, even when faced with setbacks. Leadership by Example: True leadership involves consistent behavior that inspires confidence and trust among team members. Visualizing Better Outcomes: Reimagining failed situations with a positive, composed mindset to understand how different reactions can lead to better outcomes. Nonverbal Communication: Recognizing that body language plays a crucial role in how leadership and resilience are perceived by others. Notable Quotes: "Are you a hands up or a hands down kind of guy?" "True leadership is when you act the same, regardless when, no matter if it's good, we're still looking forward." "Imagine if you handled every adversity with poise. Imagine for a second if the waves of adversity did not rock your boat." "Your body language speaks. The way that you're positioning yourself is saying a lot about you." "If you can become that pillar of strength with the hands, then everybody around you will have chins up." If you're looking to sharpen your mindset and achieve your goals, we've got you covered. Download our FREE Mindset Resources to get started on your journey to personal growth. We had the pleasure of interviewing Yoke Lore over Zoom video!Los Angeles based indie pop project Yoke Lore, the solo musical venture of Adrian Galvin, released his debut full-length album, Toward A Never Ending New Beginning, out everywhere now via Yell House Records.Yoke Lore's first full length album, Toward A Never Ending New Beginning, solidifies Galvin as an indie pioneer, transcending beyond the genre with his unparalleled talent for captivating listeners with his distinct artistic vision and introspective lyricism. The album chronicles his journey of turning strengths into weaknesses, personal growth, and discovering who Yoke Lore truly is. It's an album full of reflection and raw, unfiltered honesty that will most definitely connect with listeners on a deeper level. Combining electronic beats with subtle instrumentation, each song on Toward A Never Ending New Beginning is sonically diverse and thoughtfully crafted debut body of work. The album's opener, “Cruciform I,” instantly establishes the reflective tone of the album with the first line, “I don't wanna set myself on fire to keep you warm.” Over the course of the next 13 tracks, Galvin explores themes of love, loss, reckoning with overwhelming emotions, and the journey we take to become the best versions of ourselves. The album invites listeners to embark on the journey of self-discovery along with Yoke Lore, from the fears of ruining something good in focus track “Enough,” to disrupting the norm in single “Shake” to being comfortable with loneliness in “Alone.” The final track, “Protégé,” concludes the album on an optimistic future-facing note, leaving listeners reflecting on their own future and the positivity it holds. Galvin describes the album as an act of resistance and revolution. “I don't want to be attached to my doubts,” he says. “To be rich is to be saved, to be poor is to be doomed. You could achieve wealth and thus salvation by accumulating enough wealth and if you weren't making that your express purpose in life then what the hell were you doing? I see art and love as a rebellion to this idea, I also see the exploration of self doubt as a rebellion to this idea. I see the acceptance of failure as a rebellion against this idea. And thus I see Yoke Lore as a way through it. Toward a never ending new beginning.”Prior to the release of Toward A Never Ending New Beginning, Yoke Lore released standout singles such as “Goodpain,” “Chin Up,” and “Beige,” which earned him an RIAA Gold certification. With over 450M+ streams to his name and tours across the globe under his belt, including a recent run with Goth Babe, Yoke Lore has garnered a loyal fanbase and widespread acclaim from both critics and fellow musicians alike and established himself as a notable force in the indie scene. We want to hear from you! Her first call, and how she really felt when she heard Roe was repealed; 2. Why she says the repeal is rooted in shaming women's sexuality; 3. What's at risk for birth control and fertility treatments; 4. Why she thinks we must “take the flag back” and show up with our “Shoulders Back, Chin Up;" 5.
