The Carolina Panthers are still weighing their options at quarterback as OTA begin this week. According to Albert Breer, the Panthers are cautiously optimistic about Sam Darnold's progress under Ben McAdoo but are monitoring the situation with Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield. Julian Council ponders how the Panthers are still in this position this late into the offseason. Will the Panthers make a move at quarterback in the month? San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo remains an option as the Niners and Garoppolo's representatives had maintained contact while the 30-year-old quarterback recovers from shoulder surgery. Is Garoppolo the most logical option for the Panthers if they do decide to wait until June or July to add another quarterback? Is trading for Garoppolo too big of a risk for the Panthers? So far this offseason, Sam Darnold has survived the Panthers failed pursuit of Deshaun Watson and the team adding another veteran. Rookie Matt Corral has been brought in to be developed but doesn't appear to be an immediate threat to Darnold. Can Darnold finally take the reigns at the quarterback position and allow the Panthers brass to stick with the current quarterback room? Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! March 31, 2022 — Establish the Pass Podcast Episode 221 - Blake Lovell and Dillon Reagan predict the ultimate landing spots for arguably the two biggest quarterback dominos yet to fall in the 2022 NFL offseason: Baker Mayfield and Jimmy Garoppolo. Can the Browns recoup anything other than a late-round pick for the former No. 1 overall pick? Will the Seahawks or Panthers pull the trigger on Mayfield, or will they conclude he isn't a big enough upgrade to justify the draft capital they'd have to give up? Is there a chance the 49ers hold onto Garoppolo, waiting it out in case a better trade package comes during the season? Has the QB market dried up to the point that either Mayfield or Garoppolo will actually be released instead of traded? Then, they wrap up by discussing the Dolphins' plan to use Tyreek Hill in the Deebo Samuel role within Mike McDaniel's offense, and why the pressure is squarely on Tua Tagovailoa to produce this year. On today's episode, Jason kicks things off with a few thoughts on the upcoming Sweet 16 games in the NCAA Tournament. We'll go through each games with a fine-toothed comb as the week goes on, but it's nice to get J-Mac's early lean on all the action. As we've said plenty of times before, sometimes the best time to bet a game is early in the week before the sharps start to manipulate the number. Later, Jason does a deep dive into the futures of Baker Mayfield and Jimmy Garoppolo. A few weeks ago, Mayfield was the franchise quarterback of the Browns and Jimmy G was seen as the most realistic trade target for teams like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Pittsburgh Steelers. Now? They'd be lucky to find a starting gig anywhere. Making matters even more complicated is now that Aaron Rodgers has signed a big money deal to remain with the Green Bay Packers, former first round pick Jordan Love should be very gettable. Love will come at a much lower price-tag than either Garoppolo or Mayfield, so you shouldn't be surprised to see his name floated around as we get closer to the NFL Draft. Speaking of QB-needy teams, the Seattle Seahawks should absolutely be in the market for a new signal caller now that Russell Wilson is in Denver. However, with the way Pete Carroll keeps publicly pumping up Drew Lock, it's becoming more and more apparent that the Seahawks are planning a stealth tank job in 2022 in hopes of landing their next franchise quarterback in the 2023 NFL Draft when guys like CJ Stroud and Bryce Young should be available.
