In addition, Karen has become a regular contributor to the nationally broadcast public radio program, “The Engines of Our Ingenuity”. He graduated with a BS in Communication at the ITESO (Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Occidente) and also graduated with a degree in filmmaking at the CCC (Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica). Bucio is a two-time grant winner of the prestigious FONCA (the Mexican arts and culture national foundation). He is also an alum of the Berlinale Talents. Ya’Ke Smith, known for his unflinching and veracious style of storytelling, is a rising voice in independent cinema.His films have received world-wide acclaim, screening and winning awards at over 90 film festivals. The Director’s Guild of America, the Student Academy Awards, HBO, Showtime, and the City of Buffalo, NY, which proclaimed February 23, 2013 as Ya’Ke Smith Day, have honored him. His short, Katrina’s Son, screened at over 40-film festivals and won 14 awards. The film was also eligible for the 2012 Academy Award in short filmmaking. His debut feature, WOLF, which NPR called “an impressive piece by a young director,” premiered at the SXSW Film Festival and has gone on to screen and win awards at festivals across North America. The film is now available for download via several Video-on-Demand outlets. His short film, dawn., made its television premiere on HBO in February of 2015, and screened on the network for two years.

Shawn Harris, owner of Lazy Park Entertainment, LLC, has a long-held passion for filmmaking. After creating several short videos for corporate holiday parties, Shawn fully committed to filmmaking after working on set for local feature film productions. She formed Lazy Park Entertainment to fulfill her creative vision, which is to fill your “lazy day” with entertaining stories birth from personal truths. Shawn went on to write, direct, and produce a family documentary short, Celebrating Freedom. It debuted to rousing applause and critical acclaim at the family’s annual reunion. She made her fiction-writing debut in 2017 with her first narrative short, Doorbell, and went on to produce and direct the film. It premiered at the 2018 Houston Black Film Festival and was sold on Vimeo until it was made public early this month. Shawn is currently writing a short film and is in development on two documentary shorts. Alongside producer, writer, and director, Shawn is also a production manager. She holds a B.S. in Finance and an M.S. in Technical Communication. She currently serves on the Board of Women In Film & Television Houston.
