With the first stirrings of spring on the breeze, an archive-television reviewer's thoughts naturally turn to fresh air, greenery and neolithic menhirs. A quest for savage nature leads to this episode of The Peggy Mount Calamity Hour being 33% outside broadcast, as well as seeing the return of a beloved special guest back in the studio! Yes, ancient rituals, cutting-edge science and new age ephemera collide, as that rusty old chopper has been broken out of the shed and ridden into the depths of rural Wiltshire for sardonic scrutiny of the first episode of HTV's iconic Children Of The Stones! For once, our hosts aren't the weirdest people in the vicinity. Although that doesn't stop them trying... When is it permissible to run over an old lady standing in the middle of the road? When is it okay to knock off your academic research for the day and knock back whisky in the pub instead? And when is someone - anyone - going to send a Going Metric: Tins Of Paint leaflet to Blackout? The sooner you press Play, the sooner you'll find out... The Peggy Mount Calamity Hour is a free podcast from iPorle Media, which holds production copyright. Opinions and recollections expressed are not to be taken as fact. This podcast contains discussions of intimate partner violence, domestic violence, homicide, and harm to adults, children, and families. Please listen with care. If you need to pause or step away, feel free to do so and return when you're ready. When leaving doesn't guarantee safety, how do we protect survivors? In this episode of Down the Rabbit Hole, we're joined by our TCFV colleague Tabetha Harrison to break down the data from the Honoring Texas Victims (HTV) report. This year's findings reveal the heartbreaking loss of 205 Texans to intimate partner homicide, emphasizing that no age, gender, or community is immune. From the challenges survivors face when exiting abusive relationships to the role that firearms play in these tragedies, this conversation highlights the urgent need for community-driven solutions, survivor-led responses, and system-wide change. Join us as we uncover the human stories behind the data and discuss how we can all work together to create safer, more hopeful futures for survivors and their communities. Writer, equine ethologist and tamer, Lucy is a Welsh woman who has traveled and worked in various countries searching for the easiest, most universally applicable and most successful ways of dealing with horses. After studying zoology at the University of London, specializing in neurophysiology, neuroanatomy and ethology, she did his postgraduate studies at the University of Sussex, England. Later she had a somewhat atypical horse farm in the mountains of Snowdonia, Wales, where she began to tame the wild horses of that mountain range, gaining fame for her special treatment of horses with problems; she also started writing his first books (novels). She traveled to many countries, especially Ireland, the United States and Portugal, where she amassed extensive experience in different cultures and ways of taming horses, which gave rise to her book The Mind of the Horse , in which she combined experience with studies equine ethology scientists. This book had and still has an enormous influence, as it is the first book that dealt with equine behavior in a scientific way but with a popular character. She starred in two television movies, To Ride a Wild Horse , filmed for HTV in 1984 in which she captured and tamed a wild mustang stallion in the Arizona desert, and Horse Shaman.in 2002, for the television of Catalonia. She regularly writes for different English and Spanish magazines (and not always about horses) and teaches at different universities in both countries. Apart from popularizing knowledge about dressage and dealing with horses through courses, clinics and conferences. Those who see her dealing with horses often refer to her as a whisperer, but Lucy has always been an advocate of the scientific method

This podcast explores topics of homicide, intimate partner violence, abuse, and other forms of trauma. As you are listening, please do so with care and take a break if you need it. Released in October 2023, Honoring Texas Victims (HTV) reveals Texas' intimate partner fatality statistics from 2022 and share the victims' stories. Today, we are joined by two of its compilers and TCFV Support to Service Providers team members, Mikisha Hooper and Sarah Hilderbrand. They are here to share their findings from HTV 2022 and to discuss further actions for violence prevention in Texas. Mikisha and Sarah explain why leaving a relationship is a treacherous period for victims of abuse, how the age ranges of intimate partner abuse perpetrators reveal just how dire the situation is, why we need to stop using age to deflect the real truth, and all the details relating to firearms that can be found in HTV 2022. We also explore the responsibility of law enforcement, the challenges of identifying prohibited gun possessors, the importance of accountability, and some things TCFV is doing to raise awareness of violence prevention in Texas. You can find links to the 2022 report, fact sheets, and narratives here: https://tcfv.org/publications/. If you have any questions about this episode or the HTV report, please email us at prevention@tcfv.org.
