Hi friends! Welcome back to Coffee with Kristi, where we’re going to talk about *singing* m-m-m-my corona!I’m recording this podcast in real time, not because I don’t think there is enough new (real or fake!) about the CoronaVirus, but because I know first hand that building a business is already stressful, but adding this health crisis is making it extraordinarily difficult. I'm sure that everyone listening is not only worried about your income, but we are all worried about the health of our families and friends as well. We’re in this together, friends! So today, I’m going to focus on the impact on businesses during this outbreak recently classified by the World Health Organization as a pandemic. Let’s do this!
Before you start furiously skipping through this episode to find out the tea, let me preface this whole thing by saying: I’M NOT GOING ANYWHERE!Yes, I am making some pretty big changes around here that will affect ALL of my businesses, but I’M. STILL. HERE.*I’m still the same foul-mouthed, cat-loving, violin-playing 20something entrepreneur I’ve always been.*But enough about my quirks. Let’s get to why you’re really listening...
On February 7th (almost exactly one month ago, to be exact) I went on a digital declutter and deleted all of the unnecessary personal apps from my phone. This included Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Pinterest, Tik Tok, Email, and a few others I honestly can't remember (clearly they were unimportant, lol).In this week’s podcast episode, I answer (in extreme detail) emails I’ve received from you guys over the last few weeks that include everything from what life is really like without Instagram, how I’m filling my time, my tips for those who are also addicted to their phones, and so.much.more. Enjoy! To read the show notes for this episode (with a link to Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport) head to www.coffeewithkristi.com/blog/i-gave-up-all-social-media-for-a-month-and-heres-what-happened

One of my biggest pet peeves in the business space is when people don’t know how to talk about what they do. In fact, I recorded an entire mini-training about this on Instagram last month that many of my audience loved, but I have a feeling that not all of my podcast listeners saw it! Not all of my podcast listeners watch my Instagram stories and even if you do, this will probably serve as a really great refresher. So, without further ado, here is a mini-training on how to talk about what you do and why it’s important that you are CLEAR in your marketing efforts.
So I’m not sure why I called this a “special” like you’re getting a discount on the fried chicken platter at your local diner… But we’re going with it.In honor of Valentine’s Day, today we’re talking about 10 things I’m loving right now because I’m so narcissistic that I think you might actually care! And no, none of the items actually have anything to do with Addison or Valentine’s Day. Don’t be fooled.Let’s do it!If you want more content like this every Tuesday morning, subscribe to my email list at www.coffeewithkristi.com/subscribe! I would love to connect with you in your inbox with helpful tips, funny stories, and inspiration to keep you going on the bad days. See ya there!

This episode is my response to an amazing topic suggestion from @ohnine.solutions on Instagram: “How do you react/what do you do when a client tells you they aren’t in a financial position to pay for your services or straight out they can’t afford it? It hasn’t happened to me since I started my business in April but it just happened twice in a row. Maybe it’s just this time of the year but the first thing I did was question my pricing.”I looooove this question because I think it’s something that we don’t really talk about as service-based business owners, but we ALL deal with. Let’s dive in!

PRICING. Oh friend, Halloween is over—I didn’t mean to scare ya!For real though: for most service-based business owners, pricing is a super stressful, I-don’t-want-to-talk-about-it topic.Let’s fact it, charging for your TIME and EXPERTISE is quite nerve-wracking!As a virtual assistant mentor, the owner of 3 service-based businesses, and the host of a business podcast, I’ve heard allllll of the pricing fears of my students, clients, and listeners. So today, I’m giving you 3 things you need to start, stop, and continue doing when it comes to pricing your services.Feel free to download my New Business Checklist at www.coffeewithkristi.com/business and read the show notes for this episode at www.coffeewithkristi.com/blog/pricing!

My mission today is to encourage you to make as many mistakes as you can, because the more you make, the more you will learn and not make them again. The key is to remember that f you fail within your business that does not mean your whole business failed. One thing that all of these businesses have in common is the fact that I have to tell potential clients ‘no’, for various reasons. If you know me, you’ll understand that I HATE doing this! I’m the type of person that wants to make everyone happy, and telling someone that I couldn’t work with them made me feel like I was abandoning them.Well, I did something about it!I created a NON-client experience… my way of serving someone without actually getting the opportunity to serve them as a client!I’m obviously a huge advocate for creating an exceptional client experience. That’s first and foremost. However, if you’re in a position in your business where you’re turning down work, brainstorm a couple of different ways that you can serve clients that you won’t be working with. Consider creating an unforgettable non-client experience. It might generate more business for you because of how well you serve people, whether they’re your clients or not! If you’re looking for some ideas on how to improve your client (or non-client!) experience, I got you, boo! Grab my free guide on how to create & automate an unforgettable client experience! I clearly want to make everyone happy, including you! I hope this helps! :)
The thing that’s separating you from where you are and who you want to be is what you’re doing.Friend, ACTION is the only thing that can make your dreams happen. Not just thinking about them, but actually DOING something! So how do you DO something, AKA make your dreams reality? That’s what we’re going to chat about today. If you’d like more content like this straight to your inbox every single Tuesday morning, subscribe to receive my weekly love letters. Friends, I have to admit... I was NOT feelin' the podcast this week. I procrastinated writing the outline for days, I couldn't think of a subject, and I certainly wasn't in the mood to record anything. Typically when this happens I just suck it up, force myself to record, and get on with it. But this week we tried something different... Addison decided to help me by taking over the mic! Today, you're listening to 5 things you don't know about me, as told by my loving boyfriend Addison. Enjoy!
Today, we're talking about... Well, therapy. The average student who took out loans for college in 2018 is $29,800 in debt. When I read this, I literally thought, “Man, I wish I ONLY had $30k of debt.Instead, here is the totally-real figure of MY debt: $112,000Overwhelming? Yes. BUT, this year I paid off over $3,000 in credit card debt, I’ve gotten rid of one of my credit cards altogether, AND I have saved over $1,000 this year. Now I know that’s not a “LOT,” but at least I’m saving while in debt. Here’s how I do it.
Between my businesses, I have over 20 sub-contractors that I pay regularly. If you had asked me a few years ago if I could picture myself as someone’s “boss” I would have laughed out loud! But I've learned a lot over the years, and today I'm teaching you how I train both client-facing sub-contractors and behind-the-scenes VA's to scale your business.Read the show notes with all the links mentioned in the episode here: http://www.coffeewithkristi.com/blog/train-a-teamDownload my free guide on creating a client experience to create a cohesive brand with multiple team members: http://www.coffeewithkristi.com/client-experience
One of the most common questions I'm asked is "Where do you get so many gorgeous photos of yourself?!" Girl, I don't take those pictures! I don't have an Instagram husband and I don't know where to get one... But I DO have a personal branding photographer. ;) Today, I'm introducing you to my personal branding photographer, Weatherly Hulsey.Connect with Weatherly on Instagram @weatherlyphotography or her website, http://www.weatherlyphotography.com/!
Have you ever been on someone’s website, liked what they were selling, but the “buy now” button wasn’t glaringly obvious and you navigated away? How about when their header says something vague, like "Trust is the currency we exchange" and you have no idea what they do? We're covering it all in today's episode, with 6 elements you MUST have on your website to turn passive readers into paying customers. Head to http://www.coffeewithkristi.com/blog/website to read the show notes and make the changes side-by-side. I can already hear the *cha-chiiiing*’s rolling in!
Today I’m hoping to open your eyes to something that’s been on my heart for awhile now: Business owners should NOT be influencers. In my opinion those who are combining these roles are short-sighted and are sacrificing longevity in their business.Do you agree or disagree? Talk to me! Head to @coffeewithkristi on Instagram and let’s have a conversation about this. I’d love to hear what you think!
Sales. That amazing, beautiful, exciting word that connects us to our customers and makes us money. What? You don’t think of it that way?Hmm… Lemme guess. Instead of amazing, beautiful, and exciting… You think sales is spammy, skeevy, and gross. How did I know??Friends, regardless of how you feel about sales, you can’t disagree with the fact that you HAVE to do it.Luckily, today I’m going to give to you the exact script I use to book out my services 3 months in advance, selling a minimum $500 service and generating thousands of dollars for my businesses. Ready? For you visual learners, follow along with me on the blog!
“When did you know you were meant to be?” While his answer is a pretty definite "immediately," mine is a liiiittle less romantic. From this hilarious [+ embarrassing!] story, to the best bad decision we ever made, why we moved to Nashville and our advice for couples doing long distance, we are answering YOUR questions today on the podcast! This Q+A is in celebration of the one-year anniversary of the show and I just have to say: Thank you, thank you, thank you to those of you who have ever pressed play. I appreciate you more than you know.
We all know how important Instagram is for our businesses, right? It’s a place to build genuine connections, find potential clients and show them who we really are. But it has a dark side, my friends. We all know our own habits--we pick up our phones to scroll through Instagram when we’re in line at the grocery store, in the doctor’s office, even on the toilet for goodness sake (don’t lie, you’ve done it!). So how do we use Instagram for our businesses but not get sucked into the IG vortex? Luckily, I have a few tips for you today that will help you do just that!
Welp, I’m hopping on the bandwagon and admitting 10 things I’m afraid to tell you. It’s the most real, raw, and vulnerable I’ve ever been on Coffee with Kristi and I’m worried as I hit “post,” but I’m here for it and I’m ready to let you guys in on deeper parts of my life so we can get to know each other better. I hope that today I’m giving you permission to be vulnerable with the people you trust. I know that sounds a little weird as I write this to thousands of people on the internet... Although I have to admit, I feel super comfortable with the community we’ve built here in this corner of the internet. After listening to this episode, I’d love to hear which was most surprising to you over on @coffeewithkristi on Instagram!
Like you, I get frustrated with my schedule. I’m always “busy,” I don’t have enough time, and there is so much more to do. But can I tell you a secret, friend?Nothing is in your iCal or planner that you didn’t put there.Often, we fall victim to our to-do list, claiming that we don’t know how it got this way. It’s like a train driving full force and we can’t stop it. But you can.The answer is saying NO. That’s what we’re chatting about today, my friend... Along with setting boundaries and why this is important.Did you learn something today?? Head over to @coffeewithkristi on Instagram and say hey!
We spent $100 to be sold to. Yep. Me and Addison bought tickets for the National Achievers Congress in Nashville, TN from May 2-3, 2019 and literally all they did was sell to us from the stage.
