In this very special episode Ral interviews Independent member of federal parliament, Dr Monique Ryan - someone who keeps it real every day. Learn what the power of people banding together (but not always agreeing or aligned!) achieves. And when it comes to creating positive outcomes, find out Mon's secret weapon and what Pressure not Power means. There were no Teals more than 3 years ago and then there were six! They appeared. And Mon didn't expect to find a group like this – great friends, who work hard together, who solve problems and also disagree, debate and challenge each other (you learn from each other she shares) but any debate is always done RESPECTFULLY (how refreshing, we have adults in the house!). Enjoy this vulnerable, insightful, intelligent and very REAL conversation with one of Australia's most impressive female leaders in parliament.------Find out more about our Finders Keepers event in Fijihttps://tinyurl.com/JacandRalFinderskeeperss---------------------------------------------------------New Episode Every Monday Follow the showhttps://www.instagram.com/keepingitrealwithjacandral/https://open.spotify.com/show/5yIs5ncJGvJyXhI55Js0if?si=aCNOdB68QnOGnT0vCTPcPgFollow Jac https://www.linkedin.com/in/jacphillips/https://www.instagram.com/jac.phillips.coaching/Follow Ralhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/gabrielledolan/https://www.instagram.com/gabrielledolan.1/Produced by Keehlan Ferrari-Brown

In this episode Ral opens up about a recent health scare that forced her to hit pause and reflect deeply. She shares the confronting experience of undergoing tests, facing uncertainty, and the critical reminder it gave her, and now us, about the importance of regular health checks. Whether it's your breasts, skin, bowels, or beyond, this is your wake-up call to stop putting it off.Jac brings a powerful perspective, reminding us the average person only gets about4,000 weeks on this earth. That number hits differently when you realise how many of those weeks we spend unhappy, unwell, or just going through the motions.Together, Jac and Ral encourage you to not only prioritise your physical health, but your emotional well-being too. Book the holiday. Leave the toxic job. Walk away from the relationship that's draining you. This episode is a timely, honest reminder that while we can't control everything, we do have more power than we think in shaping a life that feels good, inside and out. We think using the ol' ageism chestnut when you don't get a role could be a convenient story you tell yourself. Maybe even an excuse…! Provocative? Yep. Accurate? Maybe. Ageism is when we discriminate based on age – younger or older, everyone could experience ageism but when we deem it the reason we didn't get the job, or the reason we weren't promoted or the reason we were made redundant or sacked, we would like to challenge your thinking… In this episode we ask you to answer this question: “Are you relevant?”Have you kept up your training, growth and skills development? It's a jungle out there… things are changingrapidly so if you're not keeping up then you'll be pushed out and your age won't have anything to do with it!Nanna Phillips and Nanna Dolan reckon they're ageless progressives… because age is an attitude and they both continue to learn, grow and put themselves out there when it comes to ensuring they remain relevant irrespective of the number on their birth certificate! !Find out more about our Finders Keepers event in Fijihttps://tinyurl.com/JacandRalFinderskeeperss---------------------------------------------------------New Episode Every Monday Follow the showhttps://www.instagram.com/keepingitrealwithjacandral/https://open.spotify.com/show/5yIs5ncJGvJyXhI55Js0if?si=aCNOdB68QnOGnT0vCTPcPgFollow Jac https://www.linkedin.com/in/jacphillips/https://www.instagram.com/jac.phillips.coaching/Follow Ralhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/gabrielledolan/https://www.instagram.com/gabrielledolan.1/Produced by Keehlan Ferrari-Brown
Salary negotiation should be taught in school Jac & Ral reckon. Both have had long careers in corporate as well as working for themselves, so negotiating salaries and incomes are something they have a bit of experience in. In this episode they share stories about what they did well and what they did wrong when it comes to seeking out higher salaries with their employers. Things like: What is it I want and why do I deserve it? Know your value Do your research when it comes to the salary range/benchmarking Think about the mutual value exchange for both parties (ditch the winner and the loser mentality) Know when to walk away Move with strategy not emotion! Our final episode of 2024 kyboshes the new year's resolution and instead encourages you to do an end of year audit, starting by reflecting on the year you've just had. Reflect on your work, professional development, relationships, health and well-being, hobbies/leisure fun, side hustles and anything else. After reflecting on your 2024, ask yourself these 4 questions: What are you going to do more of in 2025? What are you going to do less of in 2025? What you're going to start asap? What you're going to stop asap? Ral reckons the best business model (based on the “success” of new years resolutions) is to open a gym in January and turn it into a bar for the rest of the year! Two ENTJ's walk into a room… and Keehlan starts producing their podcast Myer Briggs personality test has identified Jac and Ral as both ENTJ's – extroverts, no surprise there. However personality is not your destiny. And personality is different to character. “Oh that's just the way I am” is a line many of us have used… However when we say this we are giving up personal responsibility for our actions and impacts. If you recognise your biology and sociology aren't destiny, you will bring a growth mindset to your work and life — a belief that you can change, learn, develop, and adapt. Finally, it means you care more about the impact you have on others vs just doubling down on “you being you.” So the next time you get a piece of feedback about your approach, rather than dismiss it by saying “it's just my personality,” try starting the conversation by admitting you are capable of something different and better. This episode could be a coaching session to ourselves… we both could talk under water and we've never met a microphone we didn't like but that doesn't mean we should keep talking. In fact we need to remind ourselves regularly to shut the f**k up! If you find you talk too much when it comes to interviews, public speaking or presenting, when introducing others or in meetings then it's time you learned a few tips and techniques on how to stop talking too much. There are many reasons why you might talk too much – You love attention? You're an extravert? You're nervous or excited? You lack self awareness? You have an ego and an opinion… whatever it is, you need to get a handle on it and shut the f**k up! In this episode, Ral and I share why women need to negotiate differently than men, what we learned when we studied negotiation at Harvard with Hannah Riley-Bowles (who partnered with Sheryl Sandberg to write “Lean In”) and the fact it is NEVER too late to learn about negotiation. Learn from the best…Ral was once told she's too expensive and her response… “you're worth it!” She also coached one of my former employees on how to negotiate a bigger salary from me… and they got it! Ral wants to return as a shark in her next life and Jac quotes Albert Einstein in this episode which is all about the need to keep learning. Why is continuing to learn so important? The more you keep learning, the higher your self esteem. The likelihood you will be more successful in your career and also personal life. Learning keeps you relevant and connected, yet so often we create excuses as to why we can't learn something new today… I don't have time… I can't afford it… for example. Both b***hit reasons – Jac & Ral share how to prioritise learning.. and it doesn't have to be a course or training session. Consider mentoring someone, learn how to ask great questions, listen to Jac's list of free online courses at Harvard, Yale and Stanford. And we call Mark Zuckerberg out too… he could learn a thing or two from us
How often do you answer this question “How are you?” with the response: “Busy!” or “Stressed”. Well you might want to rethink that in future… Jac did some research and learned an individual's perceived level of busy-ness or being stressed is heavily connected with their feelings of self worth and how others view their status. Telling people you are busy/stressed all of the time could mean you're trying to impress… or prove your worth In this episode we talk about how to give yourself permission to do nothing… because that's when creativity and clarity occur. Start taking control of your calendar (ditch the back to back meetings day in, day out!) and start realising life is short… 4,000 weeks in total if you live to 76 years of age. Ral tells us she already knows her next 2 holidays because she is a great believer in taking control of the time she has left, and she doesn't want to spend most of that time in meetings or working. Smart girl. Be like Ral and keep it real. Enjoy Keepers! If you want to change, grow, improve and achieve then this episode will get you started! Or it might even help you to stop some habits that aren't serving you well anymore. How do you start a good habit? There's a system you need to learn – Jac thought she could look like Elle MacPherson if she started a certain habit… listen to learn what the habit was… and if she was successful…? Ral has created the perfect morning ritual (using habit stacking) where she starts her day by drinking a glass of water, followed by some stretching, before having a coffee and then writing. This sets her up for her day. Whether it be personal or professional, learning the art of the system or a set of behaviours where you get the outcome you want is key. It takes 4 things to break a habit… and the same 4 things can also help you start a good habit. Listen in to learn more – in fact listen in to every episode of Keeping it Real is the BEST habit you could create.
