The series is in spoken Hindi-English-Urdu, but its scope will cover the books in all languages. To mark big literary occasions and events, the series will focus on some of the most celebrated authors and their work as well. Produced by Cine Ink, a London-based digital hub of Hindi and Urdu podcasts, the series is presented by broadcasters Achala Sharma and Pervaiz Alam. Both worked for All India Radio in Delhi and BBC in London. ‘Hymns in Blood' is an English translation of a Punjabi novel ‘Khoon de Sohile' by legendary Punjabi author Nanak Singh, first published in February 1948, and now translated for the first time into English by his grand son Navdeep Suri, a former diplomat who has served in India's diplomatic missions in Washington DC and London. He was also India's ambassador to Egypt and the UAE. Navdeep Suri in conversation with broadcaster Achala Sharma says dealing with the trauma of partition of India in 1947, the novel provides a message of healing that is as relevant today in the context of Hindu-Muslim communalism as it was 75 years ago and provides a timely reminder of the grief and trauma that a religious divide brings in its wake.The novel tells the story based in 1947, Chakri, an idyllic village on the banks of the Soan near Rawalpindi, surrounded by stalks of golden wheat and festive songs. 'Khoyi Cheezon Ka Shok' is a new collection of poems in Hindi by Savita Singh. Professor in the School of Gender and Development Studies, Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi, Savita Singh shares her experience of writing poetry with broadcaster Achala Sharma. 'Saal Chaurasi' by Pritpal Kaur is a new novel in Hindi portraying the characters dealing with the consequences in the aftermath of the anti Sikh riots of 1984 in India.Nearly 3,000 members of India's Sikh community were massacred after the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by her two Sikh bodyguards on 31 October 1984.Several government inquiries investigated the causes of the violence over the years and examined whether the massacre could have been averted and whether there were lapses of duty on the past of the authorities, leaving a sense of 'justice denied' in the Sikh community. Joseph Héliodore Sagesse Vertu Garcin de Tassy (1794 –1878), a French Orientalist, has often been called the first historian of Hindi and Urdu in Europe. His texts on Hindi, Urdu and Islam brought new insight into French public discourse. He translated one of Urdu's first poets Vali Deccani into French and called him 'Hafez' of India. Now, for the first time, Kishore Gaurav has translated 'Literatures of Hindoustan' (1850-1860) by Garcin de Tassy into English and Hindi, published by Sampark & Vani Prakashan, respectively.
