In today's episode, we cover the key trends shaping markets as we start 2025. Savita discusses the evolution of the S&P 500 over the past 50 years and why that leads her to be more comfortable with higher valuations today. Then she explains why productivity gains could drive the next bull market and the surprising resilience of corporate margins despite inflation volatility. Plus, Savita weighs in on the future of small, mid, and large caps and why she favors selective stock picking over buying the index. We're joined by Savita Nutan who is discussing her own educational organisation ‘Medicine without Cruelty, the aim of which is promoting non animal testing as animal testing is outdated, ineffective and needs to be stopped. The big question being why is it still going on? Savita explains why the law is regulated by ASPA Animals (Scientific Procedures) and it licences the use of animals despite there being so much information highlighting that there are other ways! The obvious question is how can a rat's metabolism be compared to a human's? And with the rise of Artificial Intelligence could it be the time to end the pointless suffering of animals in laboratories when technology could replace them. Episode-161. Jiban Rakchya 2081-01-10 {Savita Upreti}
When Savita Subramanian, head of US equity strategy at Bank of America, raised her outlook for stocks at the end of last year, there was a lot of skepticism that equities could go any higher. The S&P 500 had already surged on expectations that the Federal Reserve would start cutting rates in 2024. And investors were very excited about AI. Then, in early March, she increased her year-end target for the S&P 500 even further, going from 5,000 to 5,400. Fast forward to the start of April, and the rally has continued even as markets ratcheted down their expectations for rate cuts this year. Of course, there are questions about whether investors are getting ahead of themselves and whether things are starting to feel a little frothy. In this episode, Subramanian explains why she thinks stocks can go up even further from here, how she's thinking about valuations, and why we shouldn't be too worried just yet about a repeat of the early 2000s internet bubble.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Productivity gains from AI will drive margin growth The S&P 500 has enjoyed double digit gains this year thanks in part to waning recession concerns and a resilient consumer that has been somewhat insulated from higher interest rates. We sit down with Head of US Equity and Quantitative Strategy, Savita Subramanian, who remains bullish on US equities from these levels. Savita believes that in this backdrop of high inflation, wage growth and interest rates, companies will likely focus more on efficiency, a positive for earnings and the multiple the market would be willing to pay. And when excluding the seven stocks that have driven the S&P so far this year, the S&P earnings multiple looks more reasonable anyway. AI should help in this push for productivity. Writer-director Jayant Digambar Somalkar's debut Marathi feature film Sthal (A Match) opens with a dream sequence. Savita, a young girl in her early 20s, sits with 10 other women in a small room and interviews a potential suitor. She is assertive, the women around her are giggling, and they are free. Simple, yet far-fetching, the dream remains just that. And it sets the tone for the film ahead. Sthal is the only Indian film to have been selected for the festival's Discovery Programme this year.

AI to drive productivity and margin expansion over time Companies have faced rising cost pressures as they emerged from the short-lived COVID downturn. The price of raw materials, labor and money has all risen but there are positives that come with this changing dynamic-companies are forced to focus on efficiency. Savita Subramanian believes we are at the forefront of a productivity boom driven partly by AI but also corporate necessity. Savita points out that the pace of margin deterioration has slowed since 1Q23 and she expects to see stabilizing margins going forward. A.I. helps growth and tech but also should help efficiency leaders in less efficient sectors. Get ready for some bad earnings-season news. That's the call from Savita Subramanian, the head of equity and quantitative strategy at Bank of America, who is expecting a 10% drop in earnings that will likely keep a lid on the S&P 500 in 2023.She joined the What Goes Up podcast to give her outlook for the market and explain why she thinks analysts' earnings estimates are too high: “We are going to see those estimates come down, and it's likely to happen after companies guide more aggressively lower around 2023 earnings. I think where we're going to see pressures are in companies with more labor intensity, like services companies, companies where you're really seeing cost pressure remain high. Those are the areas where we think that we're going to see some downward guidance on margins.” See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
