MICHAEL PITTS Michael Pitts has served in the role of Executive Director of Schools, Principal, Assistant Principal, Teacher, and State Evaluator of Teachers in the Memphis City Schools Atlanta Public Schools, and the State of Tennessee for the last 33 years. He successfully oversaw fifteen schools (12 K-5; 3 K6-8), supervised principals, and supported schools. Mr. Pitts brings many years of experience in urban education. He has served as a developmental coach and training assessor for the National Association of Secondary School Principals. Among his numerous appointments was his membership on the Success For All Children, Early Childhood National Committee, and a member of the Pearson Education Leadership Committee. Mr. Pitts was a participant in the development of the Gates Teacher Evaluation Project and the Panasonic Leadership Institute. He is a member of several associations including, ASCD, NAESP, NABSE, and AASA. He is a member of the Harvard University Graduate School of Education's Principals' Center, in Cambridge, MA. Mr. Pitts was also the Project Manager for the Matrix Committee in Atlanta, which was responsible for re-engineering the system's organizational structure. Prior to his position in Atlanta, Mr. Pitts served as a K-6 principal in Memphis City Schools for six years, assistant principal for two years, and taught in the Memphis City Schools for eleven years (K-8). Primas has spent the past 26 years of her educational career in public education, serving as an elementary and middle school teacher, K–12 Reading Specialist, 21st Century instructor, School Governance Team member, and is certified to teach in Texas, California, and Georgia. Primas has been a member of the leadership team at B.E.S.T. Academy Middle School and the 2014-2015 Cluster Team. Today, Mrs. Epps-Primas is actively engaged in the School Leadership Team, a PBIS Cohort Member, Atlanta Public School District SEL Liason (on-site), STEM Committee, Resident Advisor for Relay, Morehouse Vendor, and 8th Grade English Language Arts teacher at B.E.S.T. Franchesca Warren has spent the last 18+ years advocating for equity in literacy resources for all students - as a teacher, instructional coach, and literacy coordinator across the Southeast.Always in search of a way to amplify teacher voices, she has presented at several national conferences including NCTE, GCTE, and other professional education organizations. In 2012, Ms. Warren was selected as the South Atlanta High School, School of Law and Social Justice Teacher of the Year for the 2012-2013 school year and a Difference Maker for the Atlanta Public School district. Due to her accolades both inside and outside the classroom, she has been featured on several local news stations including Education Week and the Jennifer Keitt Show. In 2015, she was selected out of hundreds of applications to be part of Harvard's Turnaround School Leader Training where she collaborated with school leaders from around the world on how to tackle the inequities found in many of her schools from a district perspective.Inspired by her experience in schools, Ms. Warren founded the parent advocacy think tank, South Fulton Parents for Education, where she has galvanized a group of parents to demand equity for schools south of the I-20 Corridor. Through the strategic work of these parents, they have been able to move forward with work of several initiatives around literacy, STEAM and mental health. Outside of her daily work with students and educators, Ms. Warren enjoys reading, writing, and resting when she has time to herself. She is also a wife and mom to four kids and one dog. Her oldest son is a Westlake High School graduate, who currently attends school at George Washington University in Washington, DC and interns on Capitol Hill. Mr. Stewart was born in Wiesbaden, Germany and was raised in Pensacola, FL where he later graduated from Woodham High School in 1996. Upon graduation from high school he continued his educational career at Alabama State University in Montgomery, AL., where he received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education (2001), a Masters in Administration & Supervision (2004), and also acquired an Education Specialist Degree in Education Leadership (2006). Mr. Stewart began his teaching career in Montgomery Public Schools and later Selma City Schools. He served in various leadership capacities in Lowndes County Public Schools and Tuscaloosa City Schools before being recruited in 2010 to Kansas City, Missouri where he became the Turnaround Principal at Longfellow Elementary School from 2010-2012.After just two years in Kansas City Public Schools, Mr. Stewart was recruited and joined the Education Achievement Authority of Michigan as a Turnaround-Principal of Brenda Scott Elementary-Middle School. During his tenure as Turnaround-Principal, the students at Brenda Scott Academy made unprecedented academic gains in student achievement. At the conclusion of the 2012-2013 year the Brenda Scott Academy ranked #5 out of 127 K-8 schools in the city of Detroit for academic growth. In August 2014, the school was removed off the state of Michigan's Persistently Lowest Achieving List (PLA). In January 2015, Mr. Stewart transitioned to Atlanta Public Schools after being named Principal of Harper-Archer Middle School and served in the district until transitioning to Decatur Public Schools.In his spare time he enjoys traveling, playing golf, watching ESPN, and spending time with his family. He prides himself with the ability to stress and demonstrate the importance of building mutual relationships with students, parents, staff, and community stakeholders. Dr. Simon has degrees from Southern University and the University of West Georgia. School administration provided experience in managing 100 staff members and millions in budget. From curriculum and scheduling to discipline and transportation, Dr. Simon was engaged in the total school program. Over time, she was recognized as an exemplar teacher leader and was promoted to the assistant principal position at Mays High School in 2006. After five years as an assistant principal, Dr. Simon was selected to serve as the principal at Coretta Scott King Young Women's Leadership Academy Middle. During her tenure at CSK, she led and supported her team to earn several awards, developed positive business and community partnerships, and created several positive life-altering experiences for her girls, including a visit to the White House. Dr. Simon's drive to build leadership capacity within others gives her a special skill set of a difference-maker and an inspirational motivator. In July 2015, Dr. Simon was selected to serve as the school principal at Towns Elementary School, where she worked diligently for four years. Because of Dr. Simon's hard work, she was named the Atlanta Public Schools Principal of the Year in 2017!
