In this episode, we will explore how to believe new things. You may think that cultivating a new belief is VERY UNCOMFORTABLE, but that's a good thing. The discomfort stems from cognitive dissonance which is a sign you are well on your way to cultivating that new belief. Believing new things requires the following: 1) Recognizing the old belief and desiring to unlearn it 2) Identifying the new belief you want to cultivate 3) Preparing for the obstacles I can't think of a better time to believe new things than at the start of the year. It's time, it's time for the next installment about time management and our time scarcity! In this episode we will discuss how boundaries or lack thereof really impact our time management. Emotional or internally set boundaries are no different than physical boundaries except for the fact that you must make your boundaries known because they cannot be seen. Why do we want to explore boundaries and time you ask? When we DON'T create and enforce boundaries around time, we don't honor our plan for our time. When we don't honor our plan, we also become disempowered, and we can develop resentment for those that aren't honoring our time. So boundaries in regard to time help EVERYONE...both you and the receiver of the boundary enforcement. Within this episode we are going to discuss scarcity culture particularly around time, our beliefs about time, and time management. Limits: Are they good or bad? I would argue they are both. When we talk about limiting beliefs, we often only discuss them in the context of us holding ourselves back from a result we want. But there are some limits that are good. Eating without limits...probably not ideal. Dreaming without limits...probably amazing. Join me in this episode for all things limits and beliefs. We will explore how to determine whether a belief is a limit we want to keep or eject and how we go about it. Did this episode resonate with you? Obstacles are EVERYWHERE! I'm not talking about the ones we see coming, I'm talking about those mountains that pop-up underfoot all of a sudden. While some obstacles may not amount to much, we often blame them for delays in the achievement of our dreams/goals. When those big obstacles pop-up, OVERWHELM often appears once again and then we are stuck. In this episode, we will discuss a framework for tackling these obstacles one mountain at a time. Using a personal story, you will see how I have recently practiced these tools myself to end the overwhelm and move forward, asking myself a VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION in the process. What happens when life presents a moment when you must choose to take actions in service of or in violation of your life vision? What happens when in that moment, you violate the boundaries you've set to preserve your life vision? My default is to beat myself up for it and to see it as a failure and a loss of progress. But I practice what I preach, so within this episode you will learn a framework to evaluate these zig zags and harness the power to choose wisely and place your focus where it serves you most. You will hear a real life recent example of how I practiced this framework, and how I managed to quit kicking my own ass.. However, this episode ties together the previous two episodes and addresses arrival fallacy from a new perspective. The arrival fallacy is the idea that things will be better when..... When I become an attending... When I quit my job.... When I have checked off everything on my "to-do" list... Why do we fall prey to the arrival fallacy and how do we stop? This episode will tell you just that. You've heard me talk about the idea that comparison invalidates our suffering. And we've all also likely heard the phrase "comparison is the thief of all joy," but I have a different take on that phrase. In this episode, we are going to explore how the act of comparing can dilute our pleasure. Diluting out pleasure leads to sooo many things: 1) Difficulty losing weight 2) Coveting something we don't have (a new car) 3) Buyer's remorse Comparison is natural. In this episode we are going to explore how a 10-yr plan might be sabotaging your efforts at living a life you design. We will also discuss how to craft a 3-5 yr plan that doesn't pigeon hole you into a "new manual" but rather elevates a specific vision. Steps to creating the vision: 1) Evaluate each priority category and rate it on a scale of 1-10. Then list what would make it a 10. 2) Create a vision from your "make it 10" list with an emphasis on big picture. Whether you create a vision for each category or one large over-arching vision, you're doing it just right. Your way is the right way FOR YOU.
