[Content Warning]: Discussion of child sexual abuse, suicidal ideation, intrusive thoughts of self-harm, and youth suicide. What happens when the body holds a secret the mind hasn't found yet? In this episode of Trauma Interrupted, Jan Broberg sits down with Roanna (Ro) White, Australian educator, advocate, and entrepreneur, whose healing journey began not with a memory, but with a physical sensation she couldn't ignore. Ro spent years managing high-functioning depression, gut health issues, and a nervous system that never seemed to rest. It wasn't until she entered somatic therapy that the body began to tell its story: a childhood sexual abuse experience she had no conscious memory of, buried since she was around four years old. From the first crack of awareness, Ro walked a long road, through CBT, antidepressants, insomnia, intrusive thoughts, and eventually toward something that looked a lot like freedom. In this conversation, Jan and Ro explore what it means to heal when you don't know what you're healing from, why so many women in their 40s are only just beginning to process childhood trauma, and how community, service, and radical honesty became Ro's most powerful medicines. Ro also shares the inspiration behind her upcoming book, The Quiet Crisis, and her "hire a friend" connection platform Ynkyer, both born from her own experience of feeling profoundly alone while surrounded by people. SHOW NOTES   In Podcast Episode 379, “Refusing to Humble Oneself,” Kim discusses the last king of Judah and some lessons listeners can learn from his bad choices. This is the first in a mini-series on the Fall of Jerusalem and the insights we can glean from what led to its consequences. Sadly, Zedekiah seemed like a fitting king to be on the throne as the last bits of the once God-fearing nation are taken into captivity for the evil lives they chose to live and the carnage they left in their wake.   Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Chronicles 36:11-16 and Jeremiah 37:1-10, with 2 Chronicles 36:12-13 and Jeremiah 37:2 and 37:17 as the focal verses:   12 But Zedekiah did what was evil in the sight of the Lord his God, and he refused to humble himself when the prophet Jeremiah spoke to him directly from the Lord. 13 He also rebelled against King Nebuchadnezzar, even though he had taken an oath of loyalty in God's name. Zedekiah was a hard and stubborn man, refusing to turn to the Lord, the God of Israel.   2 But neither King Zedekiah nor his attendants nor the people who were left in the land listened to what the Lord said through Jeremiah.   17 Later King Zedekiah secretly requested that Jeremiah come to the palace, where the king asked him, “Do you have any messages from the Lord?” “Yes, I do!” said Jeremiah. “You will be defeated by the king of Babylon.”     WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE:   When you hear the phrase “refusing to humble oneself,” does anyone immediately come to your mind? [Content Warning]: Discussion of childhood sexual abuse, sexual assault in a carceral setting, and graphic statistics related to child sexual abuse material and human trafficking. What if the very thing you've been hiding is the thing that could set you free? Sonny Von Cleveland is an author, speaker, and survivor who spent most of his childhood enduring sexual abuse by multiple perpetrators, beginning before he could form reliable memories of it. At 16, facing the compounded wreckage of an unprotected childhood, he entered the prison system and spent 18 years inside. Today he has recently been appointed as Director of Public Engagement and Content with Our Rescue and works alongside Operation Light Shine to fight child sexual exploitation and trafficking at the source. In this conversation with Jan Broberg, Sonny introduces a framework he calls comparative trauma syndrome, the damaging habit of ranking our pain against someone else's, and based on that, deciding we're not worthy of healing. He and Jan explore why speaking about trauma isn't re-traumatizing but strengthening, why voice is the one healing tool no one can take from you, and what it actually means to interrupt your own trauma cycle. They also go deep on Operation Light Shine's intercept task forces, the staggering gap in government funding for child exploitation prevention, and what every parent and every social media user can do right now to protect children.Where To Find Sonny: Buy Sonny's book: Hey White Boy: Conversations of Redemption Conversations of Redemption on Youtube Our Rescue Mentioned Resources: Man's Search for Meaning by Victor Frankl Operation Light Shine Hunting Warhead If you or someone you know is experiencing emotional distress or suicidal ideation, please access the resources below:National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline: Call/Text 988National Sexual Assault Hotline  (RAINN) : 1-800-656-HOPE (4673)National Alliance for Mental Illness: 1-800-950-6264

SHOW NOTES   In Podcast Episode 378, “Stone Cold Response to the Word of the Lord,” Kim discusses the dangers of allowing our hearts to be hardened to God's Word. Recently, we examined the tender heart of King Josiah and how hearing God's Word changed him and how he led. This week, we see that his son Jehoiakim's heart was as hard as Josiah's was tender. How tender or hard is your heart to God's Word?   Our focal passage for this episode is Jeremiah 36:1-32, with 21-25 as the focal verses:   21 The king sent Jehudi to get the scroll. Jehudi brought it from Elishama's room and read it to the king as all his officials stood by. 22 It was late autumn, and the king was in a winterized part of the palace, sitting in front of a fire to keep warm. 23 Each time Jehudi finished reading three or four columns, the king took a knife and cut off that section of the scroll. He then threw it into the fire, section by section, until the whole scroll was burned up. 24 Neither the king nor his attendants showed any signs of fear or repentance at what they heard. 25 Even when Elnathan, Delaiah, and Gemariah begged the king not to burn the scroll, he wouldn't listen.     WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE:   On a scale of 0-10, with 0 being very tender and 10 being stone cold, where does your heart stand regarding the Word of the Lord?   Additional Resources and Scriptures:   2 Kings 22 Jeremiah 36 26 And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. SHOW NOTES   In Podcast Episode 377, “God Can Speak in Unexpected Ways,” Kim discusses the dangers of Christ-followers trying to limit how the Lord can speak to them. We see that in today's scriptures as King Josiah refuses to believe God would be speaking through an enemy king, and it cost him his life. May our daily life theme be, “Speak, your servant is listening,” with no limits on the when or the how He can speak.   Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Chronicles 35:20-27, and with 22 as the focal verse:   22 But Josiah refused to listen to Neco, to whom God had indeed spoken, and he would not turn back. Instead, he disguised himself and led his army into battle on the plain of Megiddo.     WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE:   When you pray, “Speak, your servant is listening,” don't put limits on how the Lord can speak.   Additional Resources and Scriptures:   10 And the Lord came and called as before, “Samuel! For the first time, Royce Rendon tells his story in full on Trauma Interrupted with Jan Broberg.Content advisory: child sexual abuse, childhood neglect and abuse, addiction, and suicide.Jan Broberg sits down with Royce Rendon, a survivor, writer, and advocate, to get the deep dive into his story that hasn't been publicly discussed before. Beginning with a short video about his story reaching millions of people and in this episode he talks, without holding back, about the parts that video could not hold: the childhood behind it, and the aftermath that came after.Royce describes growing up as the child of a parent living with addiction, and what it does to a kid to become the adult in the room before they are ready. He talks about the pressure survivors face to perform a “good” recovery, the loneliness of healing in public, and how hard it was to find trauma-informed care. He and Jan talk honestly about the justice system, about what happens when a case does not move forward, and about why reporting still matters even when it feels like it doesn't. It is a heavy conversation, and also a hopeful one. Royce ends with three dreams he is keeping alive, and a reminder that survivors get to decide for themselves what justice and healing look like. This is the kind of conversation we made Trauma Interrupted for. Honest, survivor to survivor, with nothing performed and nothing exploited.Where To Find Royce:Insta: @RoyceRendon Mentioned Resources:The Crime Victims Treatment Center (New York)   If you or someone you know is experiencing emotional distress or suicidal ideation, please access the resources below: National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline: Call/Text 988National Sexual Assault Hotline  (RAINN) : 1-800-656-HOPE (4673)National Alliance for Mental Illness: 1-800-950-6264

SHOW NOTES   In Podcast Episode 376, “When Kindness & Generosity Flow,” Kim discusses the natural flow of encouragement, kindness, and generosity we see in the celebration of the Passover described in today's scripture passage. Today, what automatically flows from your life?   Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Chronicles 35:1-19, and with 14-15 as the focal verses:   14 Afterward the Levites prepared Passover offerings for themselves and for the priests—the descendants of Aaron—because the priests had been busy from morning till night offering the burnt offerings and the fat portions. The Levites took responsibility for all these preparations. 15 The musicians, descendants of Asaph, were in their assigned places, following the commands that had been given by David, Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun, the king's seer. The gatekeepers guarded the gates and did not need to leave their posts of duty, for their Passover offerings were prepared for them by their fellow Levites.     WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE:   Pray Psalm 139:23-24 for yourself, asking the Lord to show you what naturally flows from your heart.   Additional Resources and Scriptures:   23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24 Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life. Program, to introduce the show, the foundation's three pillars of Awareness, Community, and Justice, and the programs they have spent the past two years building. Together, they trace why the rebrand from, The Jan Broberg Show, to Trauma Interrupted is more than a name change. They talk about how Survivor Circle evolved from an early community called Thrivivors, why the T.I.M.E. Program (Trauma Interrupted, Mitigated, and Expressed) was built as peer-led and community-sustained, and how SPOT6 teaches the six stages of child grooming so adults can recognize patterns before abuse happens. Teresa shares her grooming story and the decade of silence that followed. Austen speaks about addiction, recovery, and why peer-to-peer community matters for healing. Pedro Sanchez, the prime minister of Spain, has announced that the country will legalize 500,000 migrants, creating a massive political and demographic shake-up inside the country. Spain fought the Reconquista for hundreds of years to recapture its lands from North African Muslims. In the 20th century, the country fought a civil war and was ruled by Francisco Franco for decades to ward off communism. Despite all these efforts, Spain is ultimately racing toward the progressive open-borders suicide that so many other Western nations have pursued. So the question everyone is left asking is: If liberalism ultimately makes nations fragile, how did it come to dominate the most powerful countries in the Western world? SHOW NOTES   In Podcast Episode 370, “We Can't Determine What Another Imitates,” Kim discusses the importance of choosing our actions and attitudes wisely. Others are watching our lives and may be imitating our attitudes and actions. If that is so, what would you want them to imitate, and what would you prefer they ignore? In today's story, King Amon followed the example of his father, King Manasseh, in every area, except for the one that counted most — humbling himself before the Lord.   Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Kings 21:19-26 and 2 Chronicles 33:21-25 , and with 2 Kings 21:21-22 and 2 Chronicles 33:22-23 as the focal verses:   21 He followed the example of his father, worshiping the same idols his father had worshiped. 22 He abandoned the Lord, the God of his ancestors, and he refused to follow the Lord's ways.   22 He did what was evil in the Lord's sight, just as his father, Manasseh, had done. He worshiped and sacrificed to all the idols his father had made. 23 But unlike his father, he did not humble himself before the Lord. Instead, Amon sinned even more.     WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE:   What habit(s) would you not want someone else to imitate?   Additional Resources and Scriptures:   “The Ultimate Gift” “Watching You” by Rodney Atkins EMAIL — encouragingothersinlovingjesus@gmail.com Facebook Group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/encouragingothersinlovingjesus X - https://x.com/eoinlovingjesus?s=21&t=YcRjZQUpvP7FrJmm7Pe1hg INSTAGRAM -  https://www.instagram.com/encouragingothersinlovingjesus/ “Encouraging Others in Loving Jesus” YouTube Channel: Check it out at https://www.youtube.com/@EncouragingOthersInLovingJesus   I WANT TO BEGIN A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS CHRIST.   RESOURCES USED FOR BOOK OF 1 & 2 Kings (1 & 2 Chronicles) PODCASTS: “The Wiersbe Bible Commentary: The Complete Old Testament OT in One Volume” “Christ-Centered Exposition: Exalting Jesus in 1 & 2 Kings” by Tony Merida “The Tony Evans Bible Commentary: Advancing God's Kingdom Agenda” “Life Application Study Bible” “The Swindoll Study Bible: NLT” by Charles R. When a family sailing journey ends in capture by child soldiers during Mozambique's civil war, a man must protect his children while confronting the unsettling truth that his captors are both perpetrators of violence and children shaped by it. Today's episode featured Dave Muller. Dave has written about his experiences in a book entitled, “Not Child's Play”, available where books are sold or at https://notchildsplay.co.uk/ You can email Dave at dave.muller@notchildsplay.co.za Dave is on Instagram @davenotchildsplay, on Facebook @Dave Muller and on YouTube @DaveMuller-NotChildsPlayIn the 1960s and 1970s, both South Africa and Mozambique were part of the larger decolonization of Africa, with South Africa gaining full independence from Britain in 1961 and Mozambique gaining independence from Portugal in 1975. However, in the decolonization process, both were thrown into proxy battles, between old structures clinging to power and the larger global cold war between communist and capitalist superpowers. South Africa, even after independence, was still ruled by a white minority government, under the National Party. The National Party was populated mostly by the white ethnic group known as Afrikaners who spoke a language called Afrikaans. The National Party instituted apartheid, a brutally oppressive system of institutionalized racial segregation and white supremacy enforced in South Africa from 1948 to the early 1990s. South Africa shares a northeastern border with Mozambique. When Mozambique gained independence in 1975, they were ruled by the Communist party known as FRELIMO. FRELIMO became a major force opposing apartheid in neighboring South Africa. The South African apartheid government, in response to FRELIMO's opposition, actively destabilized Mozambique from the inside by propping up a rebel group known as RENAMO. This led to a violent 15-year civil war in Mozambique, between the ruling, communist-backed FRELIMO party and the South African-backed RENAMO rebel group. In the first part of today's episode, you'll hear our storyteller speak about growing up in South Africa during apartheid as a white man, but he was not an Afrikaner, and grew up in a family that was opposed to apartheid. The second part of the story takes place in Mozambique, where he and his family are held by the RENAMO rebel group and caught in the chaos and fighting between FRELIMO and RENAMO, the two warring factions in the civil war there. Of course there is much more to say about all of this, and Dave will speak to some of these issues as he experienced them. I encourage you all to read more about the brutal and complex history of decolonization and apartheid in Africa. And one final note, you'll hear Dave talking about “Arwen” several times. In case it isn't clear right away, he is referring to his boat that he built.
