The Farewell Episode with Tosha Silver

Dear Listeners, I can't believe I am releasing the last Something Better episode, but after months of life balance challenges, heartfelt prayer and listening (meditation) I feel certain that it is time for me to let go of Something Better, and with a heavy heart I bid you farewell. I thought I could reshape a plan and trim the hours I put in but as my dad used to say, "there is no substitute for hard work" and attempting to do the podcast along with music and yoga has taxed me in some pretty disruptive ways. Like I always say, I attend my own lectures. So now, I'm the one surrendering. I am so glad to introduce you to Tosha Silver on this episode because she is absolutely there for you through her forum, online classes, books, and all other resources on her website www.toshasilver.com, and let me tell you....if I introduced you to surrender, Tosha will take it to a 3-D experience for you! You are in good hands, and it is all working out. Tosha's work truly changed my life. I am not going anywhere...please stay in touch via www.amyloftus.com and @iamamyloftus on instagram. Please know I consider it a privilege that my ideas and experiences have played in your cars, and your ear buds...you've taken me on walks and considered spiritual solutions. That means the world to me. Thank you. I love you for listening and I wish you deep, fulfilling happiness and heartfelt love for yourself. Best wishes, Amy

This episode is on a quote I saw on Jim Carrey’s Twitter: “The word depressed can be spoken as deep rest. We can choose to view depression not as a mental illness but as a state of deep rest, a spiritual exhaustion that we enter into you when we are de-pressed (pressed down) by the weight of the false self, the mask, the mind-made up story of “me”. We long to stop pretending and express our raw truth! To give voice to our secret loneliness, our shame, our broken hearts, boredom and brilliant rage! Depression’s call to truth needs to be listened to and understood, not analyzed or medicated away. There is no shame in your exhaustion. We are all exhausted, my love. Slow down today. Allow yourself to rest, deeply. And weep. And breathe. And begin again, now. Healing the Mother with Jennifer Arnise

Author, speaker, coach and podcaster Jennifer Arnise absolutely widened my mind through this conversation. I thought I was getting on a call about emotional growth regardless of background; that our wounds are our wounds, and we are all walking each other home. What I came to accept is, while that may be true, in particular, between white and black women—this can only take place AFTER trust is earned and our very different histories are honored, acknowledged, and respected. Even though I listened through this conversation afterwards and considered edits, I did not edit. I want to share a klunky, messy conversation about racial tension, history, reparations and healing— without any shellacked sheen—in the hopes I can encourage women of color and white women everywhere to have these conversations too. I kept the title as is because I want you to know what her mission is and what her book is about, however this episode is about much more. I have been hearing from women since the first season of SB and the one constant among issues they have shared with me is a fear of facing the truth about being cut out for a casual thing. Admitting that you are not means raising your standards and closing the door on crumbs in order to make room for something better. Often this comes in the form of averting attention from “situationships” so you can graduate to a real relationship. If your deepest desire is a committed relationship, and the Interstate of your life still has a side road to the culdesac of texting with someone who cannot step up and define the experience and commit to an exclusive relationship, then it’s time to raise your standards, speak up, and step away from the situationship into relationship. Relationship. It's an experience, a condition, a deliverance into spiritual awareness, an opportunity for growth, a teaching, an opportunity. What if, after years and years of marriage and two kids, your husband came to you to let you know he is bisexual? What does that mean for the union? Why is this necessary for me to know? Is it because you want to take new actions toward this new realization? Can I accept that? These are some of the questions I explored with a fellow songwriter and SB Listener who is in the middle of a life storm, and handling it by asking rational and fair questions, utilizing self care, and keeping the faith in a process of using crisis to grow. www.somethingbetterpodcast.com somethingbetterpodcast.com

I ran into my neighbor in town and had a very interesting conversation with her about her new experiences as an activist dedicated to empowering women on campus at college in the midwest. She was in shock about discovering rigid general attitudes about sex and personal empowerment that are rooted in denial, and I was in shock that they are still in place there, like they were when I was in college. We decided to continue the conversation on the podcast, and I got to test my beliefs about inner energies with the daughter of a same sex couple. Enjoy! www.somethingbetterpodcast.com somethingbetterpodcast@gmail.com

When I was writing the quiz on masculine and feminine energies for the website, I made an appointment with Interact for IT on getting it onto www.somethingbetterpodcast.com and happened to get the creator of the company on the line, Josh. We had an interesting talk about human potential, his being single, and he agreed to an interview. I was surprised and encouraged by the central theme of what he had to say...and am glad to share with my listeners a single guy who is interested in a spiritual connection and lasting love! www.somethingbetterpodcast.com somethingbetterpodcast@gmail.com

My elementary school-age nieces visited my studio last summer and weighed in briefly on their experience of their feminine energy- I thought it may inspire. In this episode I go into my experience opening up to spiritual solutions as I entered a constant conversation with the Universe, (or Source as you understand it, whatever you call it; Jesus, Buddha, God, Hashem....) I believe it communicates back! I highly recommend you try it. As you nurture your awareness and consciousness around masculine and feminine energies, I offered some suggestions on developing behaviors. www.somethingbetterpodcast.com somethingbetterpodcast@gmail.com www.amyloftus.com Check @somethingbetterpodcast IG to see the OK2BKRZ photo, hear some more details on some of my dating experiences, and get a Yin/Yang behaviors "homework" assignment! www.instagram.com/iamamyloftus
