It's Players week on the PGA Tour and golf season has arrived, the weather has improved and we're excited to get back on the tee.We look at how Shane & Rory got on at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the stories that both of them were testing out a lot of equipment this week and we asked the question should Rory go free agent and leave Taylormade? Would working with all manufacturers to get the best gear possible to win Majors be the right move for Rory or does having a dedicated team at Taylormade make life easier for Rory to perform on the golf course? You can still join our Fantasy DP World Tour League below, Jonny is in 13th position and Michael is 17th but both have high hopes to climb the league table quickly.Join us - https://fantasy.dpworldtour.com/leagues/15507/tableUse this code: QMOKP12LThanks for listening and supporting The Bogey Men. Ireland Needs a Pro Tour for our young and aspiring professionals to get some competitive reps under their belts and see how they stack up against other & older pros. We've seen the growth of the Rose Ladies Series in the UK, so why haven't the likes of Rory, Shane, Padraig, Paul, Gmac or Darren put their name to something similar in Ireland? We outline how simple we think this could be and how it could benefit the future of Irish pro golf.We also catch up to talk Jake Knapp, the Cognizant Classic, Ryan Peake winning the New Zealand Open and his incredible story as well as plenty more! On the podcast today I was joined by Head Product Fitter & Trainer Chris Courtneidge to talk through the entire range of 2025 products from Callaway. For you gear heads, this is the podcast for you!The 2025 range of Callaway Golf products have launched and the tagline is that "THE FUTURE OF PERFORMANCE IS ELYTE" a nice nod to Callaway founder Ely, this year Callaway claims their drivers are up to 8 yards longer, fairway woods promote 57% less turf interaction, their most adjustable hybrids ever, and irons with exceptional ball speeds for every type of player. All of this is to help you discover how Elyte your game can be!The new products don't just stop there, Odyssey have launched their Square 2 Square putters in an answer to the recent growth in LAB putters. We all know that Odyssey are the #1 Putter on Tour, and they have announced their all-new family: Ai-ONE Square 2 Square with zero torque.Zero torque is one of the hottest trends in putting. There are lots of options, but only Odyssey delivers their most successful Tour-proven shapes (Jailbird, #7, and Double Wide) with an Ai-ONE Insert for more consistent ball speeds across the face. Ai-ONE Square 2 Square Putters feature a modern centre shafted design that makes them Stroke Balanced, so they want to stay square throughout a golfer's stroke. These putters are ideally suited for golfers looking to minimize their face rotation when they putt.Odyssey positions the shaft just above the head's centre of gravity for a putter that rests with the toe up, which is the opposite of a traditional putter with toe hang. This design promotes a square face throughout the stroke. Ai-ONE Square 2 Square Putters provide built in forward press as well. The 3.3° of forward shaft lean sets the hands in a forward press position, eliminating the opening of the face that often happens when golfers forward press. And lastly Callaway have added another new ball, the Chrome Tour Triple Diamond golf ball, this comes after the highest premium ball share Callaway have ever had in the US. Really that's been attributed to what they've done with the new Chrome Tour and Chrome Tour X Golf Balls that was launched in 2024. They've got tremendous momentum and success, not only in the marketplace, but in Tour as well, where this year on tour, Callaway had three major wins and over 19 wins worldwide on the Tours in 2024. Similarly, the big thing for Callaway in this category is they hit their all-time market share high earlier this year in July of 22.2%.The plan is to build upon that momentum in 2025 and have an exciting new addition to the Chrome Tour family of products called Chrome Tour Triple Diamond. It's basically a lower spinning Chrome Tour X and it's really designed for the player that's looking for that low spin and the benefits in how that low spin benefits that type of player, a player that spins the ball too much. It's a golf ball that's going to help bring that spin down, optimise trajectory, maximise distance, and be more consistent into the wind. Really, it's a golf ball that uses Callaway's Chrome Tour platform with technologies. It starts with a Hyper Fast Soft Core. This ball will be fast, fast off the tee. You're going to feel it. And it has a seamless Tour arrow, its own surface geometry designed for that low spin. Really, this golf ball is going to be long off the tee. It's going to feel great. It's going to have a urethane cover, give you great check spin around the green. And it has consistency, all tied up into this one particular package. So, this will be a nice new addition to Callaway's lineup.

In 2024, AIG launched a new initiative, the ‘Inner City Golfer' in an effort to break down barriers in the traditionally exclusive world of golf. This initiative focused on providing kids from Dublin's inner-city with access to the sport, reshaping golf's perception as a posh or wealthy sport and opening doors to potentially life-changing opportunities. This is the first year of the initiative and over the course of 16 weeks, AIG along with some partners including Golf Ireland, Carr golf and McGuirks have created a new pathway to learn and excel in a sport typically out of their reach. Adam Duffy and Daniel Mullen took up golf just 16 weeks ago and are now hooked! I sat down with Adam and Daniel as well as their teachers at Clontarf Golf Club, where Adam and Daniel will now be taking up membership through this initiative, to explore why they wanted to take up golf, what they thought golf was like before then began and whether they now think golf is more approachable now they've started. The Bogey Men golf podcast is supported by AIG, dedicated supporters of amateur golf in Ireland. This series will showcase some of the incredible Amateur golf across Ireland this year. Go visit AIG.ie for a range of golf exclusive discounts and benefits on their products. Golf Ireland members can save an additional 10% on their car insurance, and you can enjoy some exclusive benefits when you choose AIG Insurance. Michael and Jonny catch up after round 1 of TGL and the Team Cup have wrapped. Overall our thoughts on TGL are very positive, we liked the banter between golfers, the tech is impressive, but it's all very personality dependant and that'll be worrying when some golfers like Cantlay tee it up. Team GB&I won the Team Cup in Abu Dhabi, but Tom McKibbin took over the headlines with rumours that he's signed for LIV and will join Jon Rahm's Legion XIII team. 2024 has been a surreal year for DP World Tour rookie, Joe Dean. Joe turned pro in 2015 and played mini tours for a few years, when COVID hit he decided to get a job in Morrison's to support his on course earnings as a delivery driver. Joe went on to earn his DP World Tour card for the 2024 season and in his 2nd start, Joe finished in 2nd place and earned himself over €199,000 and he hasn't been back to the day job since! Joe has a fantastic outlook on golf and life as he maintains he hasn't changed who he is event after this life changing year. With his tour card secure for 2025 and currently sitting in 29th on the Race To Dubai, Joe heads to Abu Dhabi and Dubai for the final two events of the season. This was a great conversation and really shows what is important to Joe and how money doesn't change who you are, no matter the life changing amount.
We discuss the crazy ticket prices and volunteer prices for the 2025 Ryder Cup in Bethpage and compare the price of tickets to all the Majors, we even buy some tickets to The Open in Portrush. LIV Golf making some changes in the "off season" as the DP World Tour heads to Korea for their final event of the regular season.
iGolf has arrived in Ireland and we discuss whether we think it is good or bad and what golf clubs could do to embrace iGolf rather than fight it. We also look at why people wouldn't take up memberships in a golf club if they have access to this iGolf scheme. Already over 500 people have signed up for iGolf in Ireland. There are concerns from golf clubs, particularly in rural areas, that the new iGolf initiative will have a detrimental effect on clubs' ability to attract members from the intermediate age group leading to a potential age gap that could have a negative impact into the future. Golf Ireland launched its independent golfer programme — iGolf — last week, meaning that you no longer have to be a member of a golf club to obtain a handicap. For the first time, non-club members in Ireland can subscribe to iGolf and gain a Handicap Index under the World Handicap System for an annual subscription fee of €65 in the Republic of Ireland and £55 in Northern Ireland. The scheme has also been used England, Scotland, Wales and New Zealand for several years with significant success in encouraging increased participation and ultimately transitioning many independent golfers into club membership.
Ryan Griffin had a fantastic 2024 season on the golf course, winning the R&A Student Series and becoming one of the International Teams' superstars in the Arnold Palmer Cup in Lahinch, before finishing the season off with a win at the Home Internationals and representing Ireland for the first time.Ryan shared how he is enjoying himself on and off the golf course, as we now embarks on a Masters Degree in Maynooth University with the potential of professional golf on the horizon with the LIV Golf qualifiers quickly approaching.Ryan has not shared whether he has ambitions to turn professional yet, but all avenues are open to him, so who knows what awaits. The Bogey Men golf podcast is supported by AIG, dedicated supporters of amateur golf in Ireland. We recap The Presidents Cup and how it was nearly a great event, from Tom Kim and Si Woo Kim bringing the heat to some terrible captaincy by Mike Weir. We also share some ideas we have on how to revamp the competition and make it more engaging and prestigious. There were fireworks on the DP World Tour as Jon Rahm lost out in the playoff of the Spanish Open. We have our 9 hole match video with Darragh Flynn, David. Carey and Josh Adams coming to our Youtube channel next week.
Rory comes up agonisingly close to winning AGAIN on the DP World Tour but Billy Horschell comes out on top and to be fair he's a great winner. The lads watched the LIV Golf Team Championships and it was such a disappointment. The concept was good until the Finals and then it was so dull because it switched back to strokeplay.
Rory Mcilroy had another close call but narrowly missed out on winning his 2nd Irish Open title in Royal County Down as Rasmus Hojgaard claimed the victory with a blistering final round 65. Jonny and Michael catch up to talk about how Rory's season has been a collection of near misses, and that includes 3 wins! The Presidents Cup is next week and we're both firmly in the International Team camp. Leona Maguire got benched for the Solheim Cup but we don't think that made much difference to the outcome, the USA were always going to win this.
Donal Scott is a High Performance coach for Golf Ireland and the Irish Women's Team Coach. Kate Lanigan has had an incredibly successful season so far, a win on the R&A Student Series in Italy and winning the series overall alongside her countryman Ryan Griffin meant Kate earned a spot on the Arnold Palmer Cup team in Lahinch, the week after making it into the last 64 in the Women's Amatuer Championship in Portmarnock. Kate's summer of golf isn't over however as the KPMG Women's Irish Open is taking place in Carton House, where Kate holds membership, after being hosted in Dromoland Castle for the last 2 years.
