At the end of each week, Mike Hosking takes you through the big-ticket items and lets you know what he makes of it all. Ryan Fox: 9/10 Living the dream by winning. It rarely gets better, and another chance at a big one over this weekend. Greta Thunberg: 2/10 Not kidnapped, just fantastically annoying. She is a good example of where your annoyingness outweighs your effect on your cause. Adrian Orr: 4/10 Local disappointment of the week is both him and the Reserve Bank over their petty mucking around over simple questions. When its petty at the top, it leads nowhere productive. They should be embarrassed. The Warriors: 8/10 Can't stop winning. Another two points this weekend with the bye and two more after that against the Panthers. This is the journey to the promised land. This is our year. Los Angeles: 3/10 Was that an overreaction looking for a skirmish, or what? You can only show us an intersection of a few hundred masked try hards and pretend it's a "thing" for so long. Businesses and franchises: 7/10 Record sales. We're selling businesses like hotcakes. That's got to be a good sign for confidence. LISTEN ABOVE FOR MIKE HOSKING'S FULL WEEK IN REVIEW See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It was a thrilling weekend across the tours, full of grit, breakthroughs and standout play. On the PGA Tour, Ryan Fox outlasted the field in a four-hole playoff to win the RBC Canadian Open—proof that relentless effort can beat perfect technique. Jennifer Kupcho snapped a three-year drought with a birdie to win the LPGA's ShopRite Classic at –15. Austin Smotherman claimed the Korn Ferry's BMW Charity Pro-Am with a lights-out –25 finish, while Connor Syme finally broke through on the DP World Tour with a long-awaited win at the KLM Open. On the LIV stage, Joaquín Niemann fired a bogey-free 63 for his fourth win of the season, and Phil Mickelson delivered a vintage flop-shot birdie that reminded us all why Lefty is still magic. This Week's Improvement Pivot Point: Perfectly Imperfect.Ryan Fox's win is a reminder that swing aesthetics don't matter nearly as much as understanding your capabilities, controlling your ball flight, and grinding it out under pressure. Scott breaks down Fox's swing—why it works for him as a full-time player who's learned to manage its nuances, but why it's not one you'd want to replicate. The takeaway? Understand the root cause of your movement, and build a swing that works for you. Will Doctor gives you the sharpest card for the U.S. Open at Oakmont. -Going over top 7 names on odds board -1 matchup -2 top nationality tickets -3 futures outrights (+350, 14/1, 18/1) -2 outrights added (100/1 & 150/1) -Sleeper, 2 lineups, scoring -Best bet For more on the world of golf, follow Doc on X @drmedia59 In the "U.S. Open at Oakmont Picks and Predictions" podcast, Will Doctor provides a comprehensive betting preview of the upcoming U.S. Open at Oakmont. Beginning at 0:16, Doctor sets the tone with energetic anticipation, positioning Oakmont as a legendary course hosting the U.S. Open for a record tenth time. From 0:43, he sharply critiques the previous RBC Canadian Open, describing the Osprey Valley course as “a disgrace” and detailing a 5.8-unit loss that week, with Sam Burns' top-20 finish as the lone success. Despite the setbacks, he praises Ryan Fox's recent success, highlighting the Kiwi's two playoff victories in four starts and his historic Canadian Open win, the first by a New Zealander since 1968. Doctor then shifts focus to Oakmont's rich history. He recounts notable U.S. Open wins, including Tommy Armour (1927), Sam Parks Jr. (1935), and Ben Hogan's record-setting 1953 season. He emphasizes Jack Nicklaus' 1962 victory over Arnold Palmer at age 22, which kickstarted Nicklaus' legendary career. Johnny Miller's final-round 63 in 1973 is labeled the greatest round in U.S. Open history, despite not being the lowest score ever. Further champions like Larry Nelson (1983), Ernie Els (1994), Angel Cabrera (2007), and Dustin Johnson (2016) round out Oakmont's storied hosting record. At 12:00, Doctor begins his betting picks. He endorses Scottie Scheffler (+350) as outright number one, citing dominant recent wins and past experience at Oakmont, where he missed the cut by one in 2016. Bryson DeChambeau, with a futures ticket from December at 14-1, is lauded for his driving power and improved approach play, though his recent accuracy issues raise concern. DeChambeau claims Oakmont is “the toughest test in the world right now,” and Doctor remains confident in his form. Rory McIlroy is passed over due to a poor performance at the Canadian Open, including erratic driving and uninspired play. Doctor quotes Rory discussing his struggle for motivation and interest in hobbies like tennis. John Rahm, however, is preferred in a head-to-head matchup (-133), praised for his polished game despite recent putting inconsistency. Doctor argues Rahm is better equipped than Rory to handle Oakmont's demands. Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa are also faded. Xander's driving accuracy is flagged as a season-long weakness, and Morikawa is critiqued for losing strokes around the green in five of his last six starts, rendering him unfit for a major requiring elite scrambling. Ludwig Åberg is highlighted as a top Nordic pick at +180, benefiting from strong recent form and inconsistent competition, with Joachim Lagerlund identified as his main threat. Doctor names Hideki Matsuyama as top Japanese player at even money, emphasizing his elite U.S. Open history and the weak form of his countrymen. Outright picks include Scheffler (+350), DeChambeau (14-1), Brooks Koepka (18-1, faded due to poor form), Keegan Bradley (100-1, riding strong recent finishes), and Cam Young (150-1), who's gained strokes off the tee and on the greens recently. Young's playoff qualification over top names and his form earn him sleeper status. Two fantasy lineups are provided. A DraftKings build includes Rahm, Åberg, Spieth, Bradley, Young, and Leishman. The PGA Tour lineup features Scheffler (captain), Bradley, DeChambeau, and Young, with Åberg and Leishman on the bench. Doctor predicts a winning score of -3, depending on weekend rain, and offers Cam Young to finish top 28 at +320 as his best bet. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

In today's episode, the Pentagon is reviewing the AUKUS security pact between Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom, the latest Situation and Outlook for Primary Industries shows export forecasts are billions of dollars more than what was projected just months ago, two Interislander sailings have been cancelled after the Aratere ferry broke down on a sailing from Picton to Wellington the United Kingdom's national health service has told parents not to rely on shop-bought baby food as everyday meals after pouches from six leading brands fail to meet key nutritional standards, Brian Wilson, the co-founder of the 1960s group The Beach Boys, has died aged 82, and Nathan Rarere speaks to golfer Ryan Fox ahead of the US open.
It's US Open week and you'd think we'd start the show talking about that, or maybe about Ryan Fox's win in the Canadian Open, but no. Mark has found a new emoji that he likes and that's what he brings to the table to open the show with. Seriously Talk Birdie To Me used to be a serious golf show, we have jumped the shark. Even worse, the emoji doesn't mean what Mark thinks it does....awkward.But onto the US Open! Mark loves the week, and says even though the course is set up to be brutal and unreasonable, he loves watching it. He asks Nick what a 9-marker playing on Thursday would hypothetically shoot at Oakmont. Sobering. Nick talks about how difficult the course is, and was when he played it. The rough is juicy and the greens quick, and Nick expects that there is a chance the winning score may be level par saying the course is a war of attrition.Don't forget our Talk Birdie To Me multi at Betr - 16 bucks for Scheffler top 3, Ludvig to beat Rahm, and Straka to miss the cut. Get on here.We then discuss Ryan Fox's Canadian Open win, and the playoff particularly which was enthralling. Nick and Mark would have preferred rather than a par 5, a 4 or 3 hole for the playoff.Serious time. Mark gives an investigation on the ludicrous Top 100 Golf Course ranking list.Mark and Dan have been watching a new series called Stick about a former golf pro, Nick hasn't seen it yet. See the trailer here, it's good fun and worth a look. Mark is also excited about Happy Gilmore 2 which is 6 weeks away, Nick will watch it but isn't as excited and feels it looks pretty ordinary. After the turn a selfish Top 5 from Mark. His 5 things that he is most excited about in golf at the moment. Controversial though, as Dan accuses Mark of telling porky pies, and Nick provides clarity over one of his entries that cast doubt for Mark as to whether it should be on the list.Huge week of results in the PING globals from Nick, plenty of feedback on the Top 100 list - unsurprisingly given how terrible it is, and Mark suggests a movie about David Graham's life would be brilliant to see, and reveals a fact about him that not too many people would know. And in the masterclass today, Nick discusses why good rhythm is good golf, and why he uses a metronome. We're live from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. Today we preview the US Open this weekend, how exciting is it! Mark has come specifically dressed in green or, as he puts it, the colour of money. That's because he is convinced that Straka is still getting no respect, with Hummer and the Betr team putting him at 67 bucks. Mark says they clearly don't know what they're doing.Mark's also watched a video on YouTube of Bryson at Oakmont, and says it is worth the watch. See it here. But onto the US Open - Oakmont, a tough course, Nick has played it and says it is 'scary' how difficult the course is. He also talks about playing US Opens and one of the reasons he loved them was that he knew at some point about half the field would lose their mind and their game would collapse. Nick says the USGA has two goals for the US Open, when they construct the courses, he tells us what they are and why they do it. Mark and Nick discuss the small fairways at Oakmont, and Nick talks about the rough and how thick it is, and what that means for some players. We run through the power rankings, a couple of surprises, and we look at the Aussies (and Ryan Fox) and discuss their chances. Mark says Cam Smith's swing is in bad shape, the worst he has seen it.After the turn....we build another Betr Multi. And it's a lazy chance.Scheffler to finish Top 3 - surely as close to a lock as you can be!;Ludvig Åberg to beat Jon Rahm - a good shot, certainly not a lock, but not out of the question;Straka to miss the cut.Mark is unhappy with the final leg, but Nick and Dan rate it.That's our Talk Birdie To Me multi, only available at Betr - download the app, or go the the website, it takes literally 90 seconds to set up an account, click on Betr Specials, and the Talk Birdie To Me multi is there.Enjoy the Open !We're live from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. This quick Sunday episode was recorded right after the "pillow fight" of a playoff between Ryan Fox and Sam Burns at the 2025 RBC Canadian Open.
