In another player interview I was joined by Ladies European Tour pro and the very talented Moa Folke who called in from back home in Tranås, Sweden before flying out to South Korea for Aramco Series Korea then the European swing in the summer. Tranås is also where Kajsa Arwefjäll was originally brought up. A representative of Landeryds Golfklubb, Moa would go to Murray State University in Kentucky where she would be a 4x Ohio Valley Conference 1st team selection as part of Murray State Racers and was named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year for 2017 whilst also competing at NCAA Championships twice. Moa would turn pro in 2018 and would win on Swedish Golf Tour in 2019 at Tegelberga Open defeating Linn Grant & Emma Svensson by a whopping 6 shots. At the end of 2021. Moa would gain her LET Card at Final Q School for the 2022 season and at Dromoland Castle for KPMG Women's Irish Open Moa would be the 36 hole leader after shooting at -10 62 on Friday. In 2023 in the Sunshine Ladies Tour Folke would win Dimension Data Ladies Pro-Am at -8 by 3 shots to Annelise Caudal, that would set up for a good run on LET with 2 runner ups at Joburg Ladies Open and Lacoste Ladies Open de France as well as T9th at KPMG Women's Irish Open. In 2024 by Moa"s own admission was worse as she admitted trying to force things after a good 2023 ultimately leading to finishing 38th on LET Order of Merit. In 2025 it's been a solid start for Moa as she would post a respectable T14th at PIF Saudi Ladies Intl in a high quality field, was in contention at Australian Women's Classic before unfortunately a final round 77 propelled her to T27th then T5th at Ford NSW Open in Woollongong. She currently sits in 21st on LET Order of Merit standings and with a big European run coming up hopefully we will see Moa challenging more often. Great player even better person. Lovely and down to earth. Download via Podbean, Apple & Spotify and be sure to like and subscribe. Thanks
Joining Bobby in the executive chair was Mark Nolan of Dromoland Castle. -
It's all change at Dromoland Castle Resort. The closing of one chapter and the opening of another has taken place, with Mark Nolan retiring, following 35 years as general manager. After three and a half decades, Dromoland Castle now has Mark McSorley as it's general manager. There was undoubtedly a lot of change and developments during Mark Nolan's time as general manager To discuss this further, Alan Morrissey was joined by former general manager at Dromoland, Mark Nolan. The CEO of Ryanair says Shannon Airport is not the solution to Dublin's passenger cap woes, but insists the airline remains committed to growth in the MidWest. The Irish Aviation Authority has ordered Dublin Airport to reduce its summer cap to below 25.2 million passengers, although this week, numerous airlines including Ryanair have been granted leave to challenge the annual cap in the High Court. Shannon Airport Group CEO Mary Considine meanwhile has confirmed Clare's airport has the capacity to take 5 million passengers per year, rising to 10 million with a terminal upgrade. But speaking at a Shannon Chamber event in Dromoland Castle, Ryanair CEO Eddie Wilson says its not a numbers problem.
There's hope among those in Clare raising awareness of the challenges and emotional fallout associated with having a miscarriage that change is coming. The Miscarriage Association of Ireland is holding its first public meeting on Clare this week. The event will take place in Dromoland Castle on Tuesday at 8pm and bereaved parents are encouraged to attend even if they do not wish to speak. Clare native and Miscarriage Association of Ireland member Aisling Moloney insists legislation is needed to support women in the immediate aftermath of losing a baby.

Kate Lanigan has had an incredibly successful season so far, a win on the R&A Student Series in Italy and winning the series overall alongside her countryman Ryan Griffin meant Kate earned a spot on the Arnold Palmer Cup team in Lahinch, the week after making it into the last 64 in the Women's Amatuer Championship in Portmarnock. Kate's summer of golf isn't over however as the KPMG Women's Irish Open is taking place in Carton House, where Kate holds membership, after being hosted in Dromoland Castle for the last 2 years. Kate played in the event in both 2022 & 2023, making the cut last year. She has ambitions on retaining her amateur status but we can be confident that we'll see Kate teeing it up inside the ropes again at the LET tournament this August. The Bogey Men's coverage of the KPMG Women's Irish Open is brought to you in partnership with Sports Direct. Proud Premium partner at this year's KPMG Women's Irish Open at Carton House. We'll have more content ahead of the KPMG Women's Irish Open and like last year, we'll be broadcasting Live From The Range on Tuesday and Wednesday of the tournament, so if you're around come and say hi!
Clare County Council has been accused of missing an opportunity in failing to develop a south-east Clare village to its full potential. Bunratty-based Aontú local election candidate John Haugh is calling for greater attention to be given to Newmarket-on-Fergus with a view to boosting tourism in the area. It comes in a week when Ennistymon, Killaloe, Querrin and Labasheeda were allocated a total of €1.1 million in funding for rural towns and villages regeneration projects. Montpellier native Haugh, who's a professional filmmaker and project manager, says he's frustrated that more efforts aren't being made to have Newmarket village and Dromoland Castle work in tandem with each other.
Dromoland Castle received great news recently after it was named Ireland's Best Hotel. The venue was praised as “class with a capital C." On Wednesday's Morning Focus, Alan Morrissey was joined by Mark Nolan, Dromoland Castle Hotel Director, to discuss the accolade the Clare hotel picked up in the Irish Independent Reader Travel Awards 2024.
Clare Hotels had the highest room prices in the country for five months in a row last year. A new Fáilte Ireland analysis shows that the average daily rate here was more than €285 per room between April and August. However a prominent Clare Hotelier is disputing the findings, as Clare FM's Derrick Lynch reports. According to Fáilte Ireland's latest Hotel Survey, Clare had the highest average daily rate between April and August last year at a cost of €285.47. This represents a 26% increase in annual rates here, rising from €211.27 per room on average at the same juncture of 2022. A local Hotelier believes however that this county's figures in particular are highly skewed due to the simple size. Seán Lally, who is the Co-Owner of Hotel Woodstock in Ennis claims that just seven establishments in Clare were surveyed, which included two five-star institutions. He insists that while the tourist experience in this county is good value, the government needs to do more to avert "the cost of doing business crisis". The report also showed that Clare had by far the highest proportion of overseas visitors arriving here last year at a rate of 70%. This is despite the county's occupancy rate now being the third lowest nationwide for the same period at just 86%. Managing Director of Dromoland Castle, Mark Nolan says the VAT rate must be reduced to allow local hotels to remain as competitive as their international counterparts.

The Castlewarden star (22), a two-time Curtis Cup player, turned professional this summer and is heading for the LPGA Tour Q-School. We did a live show recapping our thoughts on The Open Championship and Brian Harman being crowned the Champion Golfer of The Year. For this live show we were joined by Brendan Lawlor, an Open Champion himself after winning the inaugural G4D Open earlier this year. Jonny's audio for the Open recap segment of this podcast isn't great so apologies for this, but that issue has been resolved and won't occur again. Eamonn O'Donnell, Director of Golf at Dromoland Castle Golf Club sat down with Jonny to reflect on the return of the KPMG Women's Irish Open after a 10 year hiatus from the Ladies European Tour. Dromoland Castle hosted Ireland's national open in what was an incredibly successful week which saw the best of Europe's talent face off over 4 rounds of golf. Klara Spilkova emerged the victor after a one-hole playoff. This year Eamonn, Dromoland and the Ladies European Tour have ambitions to make this event bigger and better than before. With more spectators expected, a stronger field competing and an improved spectator experience, this is sure to be a fantastic event. On this week's edition of the podcast we had a lot to get through, from recapping the triumphant return of the KPMG Women's Irish Open to reacting to news of the PGA EuroPro Tour's demise. Leona Maguire's weekend heroics ensured massive crowds descended on Dromoland Castle and while the Cavan star's performance will no doubt inspire a new generation, the next generation of male golfers were hit with news that their platform on the EuroPro Tour had been pulled from under their feet. We chat the impact of both stories and look ahead to this week's Alfred Dunhill Links where Pádraig Harrington, Shane Lowry and Rory McIlroy are all in action. We also look back at a surprisingly enjoyable Presidents Cup, an event that added to an encouraging week all round for Team Europe's Rome Ryder Cup bid. We hope you enjoy the listen. Don't forget to subscribe and let us know what you think.
Jonny & Dave sit down after the incredible week that was the KPMG Women's Irish Open. This was the first LET event that The Bogey Men have been media partners for & it means so much to us that The Bogey Men has grown into a media brand that is trusted and respected by the golf industry. What an amazing week at Dromoland Castle, from Leona being in contention on the weekend, to a fantastic winner with Klara Spilkova after a dramatic playoff. On this week's edition of the podcast there was only one place to start as Matthew McClean came out on top of an All-Ireland Final against Hugh Foley at the prestigious U.S. Mid-Amateur. Major dates at the US Open and the Masters now await the Malone man in 2023 after he ended a run of near-misses in fine style against his Irish international teammate. Judy Collins has inspired audiences with sublime vocals, boldly vulnerable songwriting, personal life triumphs, and a firm commitment to social activism. In the 1960s, she evoked both the idealism and steely determination of a generation united against social and environmental injustices. Five decades later, her luminescent presence shines brightly as new generations bask in the glow of her iconic 55-album body of work, and heed inspiration from her spiritual discipline to thrive in the music industry for half a century. The award-winning singer-songwriter is esteemed for her imaginative interpretations of traditional and contemporary folk standards and her own poetically poignant original compositions. Her stunning rendition of Joni Mitchell's “Both Sides Now” from her landmark 1967 album, Wildflowers, has been entered into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Judy's dreamy and sweetly intimate version of “Send in the Clowns,” a ballad written by Stephen Sondheim for the Broadway musical A Little Night Music, won "Song of the Year” at the 1975 Grammy Awards. She's garnered several top-ten hits gold- and platinum-selling albums. Recently, contemporary and classic artists such as Rufus Wainwright, Shawn Colvin, Dolly Parton, Joan Baez, and Leonard Cohen honored her legacy with the album Born to the Breed: A Tribute to Judy Collins.Judy began her impressive music career at 13 as a piano prodigy dazzling audiences performing Mozart's “Concerto for Two Pianos,” but the hard luck tales and rugged sensitivity of folk revival music by artists such as Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger seduced her away from a life as a concert pianist. Her path pointed to a lifelong love affair with the guitar and pursuit of emotional truth in lyrics. The focus and regimented practice of classical music, however, would be a source of strength to her inner core as she navigated the highs and lows of the music business. In 1961, she released her masterful debut, A Maid of Constant Sorrow, which featured interpretative works of social poets of the time such as Bob Dylan, Phil Ochs, and Tom Paxton. This began a wonderfully fertile thirty-five-year creative relationship with Jac Holzman and Elektra Records. Around this time Judy became a tastemaker within the thriving Greenwich Village folk community and brought other singer-songwriters to a wider audience, including poet/musician Leonard Cohen – and musicians Joni Mitchell and Randy Newman. Throughout the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and up to the present, she has remained a vital artist, enriching her catalog with critically acclaimed albums while balancing a robust touring schedule.Prolific as ever, Judy recorded a DVD special Judy Collins: A Love Letter To Stephen Sondheim, in her hometown of Denver, CO. Along with the Greely Philharmonic Orchestra, Judy dazzled the audience with Sondheim's beautiful songs and her lovely, radiant voice. DVD and CD companion will be released in early 2017. Judy also released a collaborative album in June 2016, Silver Skies Blue, with writing partner, Ari Hest. Silver Skies Blue has been GRAMMY nominated for BEST FOLK ALBUM in 2017, this is the first GRAMMY nomination for Collins in over 40 years. In 2012, she released the CD/DVD Judy Collins Live At The Metropolitan Museum Of Art which aired on PBS. This special television program was nominated for a New York Emmy and won a Bronze Medal at the 2013 New York Festival International Television & Film Awards. Based on its success, in 2014 she filmed another spectacular show in Ireland at Dromoland Castle. Live In Ireland was released in 2014. This program also won a Bronze Medal at the 2014 New York Festival International Television & Film Awards and the program will broadcast on PBS in 2014 and 2015.

“I carry the cross of the Carr name. When I show up on the golf course, I need to deflate everyone's expectations. Iv'e actually had people ask me if I'm adopted.” (https://golfyeah.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/FAS_7232.jpg) Marty Carr, Founder and CEO Carr Golf Group Dublin, Ireland For someone who was raised in the shadow of a man who’s recognized as Ireland’s greatest amateur golfer of all time, and who was the youngest child in a family with 6 kids, Marty Carr seems to have done pretty well for himself over the past 30 plus years. Since 1989, Marty Carr has overseen the growth and success of Dublin-based Carr Golf, which is one of the world’s most respected operators of customized golf tours in Ireland, Scotland, England (and elsewhere). In fact, Carr Golf has received Golf Digest’s Editors’ Choice Award four years running for “Best Tour Operator” from 2016 – 2019 Under Marty’s direction, and with help from his brother Roddy, Carr Golf has expanded beyond travel, into two other business lines that leverage the company’s expertise in golf: those include a golf course maintenance company; and a business that provides course management and marketing services. Carr Golf currently employs more than 80 people on a full-time basis, and a team twice that size for various projects. Carr Golf has been involved a number of renowned golf projects, including Old Head of Kinsale, Dromoland Castle, Mount Juliet, Carton House and Barbados Golf Club. I’d like to suggest that the key to Carr Golf’s growth and success can be found in the company’s 6 core values, which are displayed prominently on its website. Here are the first two: We offer service and respect to staff and customers (interesting that staff is not only included, it’s listed before customers) We understand the value of reputation, integrity and trust It’s refreshing to see a company that stands for something more than making money. Show Highlights: What life was like growing up with a father who was a golfing legend in Ireland Marty's explanation of why, "I've got the name, but not the game." when it comes to golfing talent. [caption id="attachment_2969" align="alignright" width="300"] (https://golfyeah.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/jb-carr-with-trophies.jpg) Marty's father, Joe (J.B.) Carr, is considered the greatest amateur Irish golfer of all time.[/caption] His initial career path as a financial advisor in the US and Ireland The backstory behind how and why Carr Golf was started The competitive challenges of running a golf travel and events business Why Americans and the Irish "get each other" Key differences between golfing in Ireland and Scotland Why his Father & Son, and Father & Daughter World Invitational Golf tournaments have been so successful "Tough love" advice for someone who's thinking about starting a golf business Notable Quotes: On his father (J.B. Carr) being raised by his mother’s sister: “It was always a bit of a stigma, and certainly had an impact on him. My father never spoke of it, or acknowledged that he was adopted, or sought to connect with his adopted family.” On his father’s golf game: “He was very big and all hands, was very powerful and could hit the ball a long way. He had the ability to power through the ball, even in the deepest of rough or toughest of lies. His putting was the most suspect part of his game, but he was a very fierce competitor, particularly in match play.” On his own golf game: “I’m pretty much self-taught. I do remember being on the practice range with a bunch of guys, and maybe Henry Cotton would be there. And he would have a new technique for hitting a car tire one-handed with your left hand. I remember all of these cutting edge techniques, and John Jacobs staying in our house...but I never really engaged in the game. But I don’t regret it. I can’t look back and

When you think of ageless arts you probably think music, sculpture and theater. In Ireland, I think stone masonry, bell ringers and falconry. So that's what this is about. Learn about the art of the bell ringers at Christ Church Cathedral and the inside story on the competitive nature of the Steeple Keepers. And how you can ring the bells yourself. Hear the story of the Claddagh Ring, how it came to be and why it's such an iconic souvenir in Galway. And fly the birds of prey. You can do that at a lot of the castles in Ireland. I'll take you to Dromoland Castle where a hawk named Bomber is anxious to meet you. All that and A Broad Abroad in Episode 13!
