Sam & Tom catch up with recent mid-Am champion Matt McClean following his epic win over in Erin Hills a week ago. Matt now becomes one of only 4 Irish players to have won a coveted USGA title, adding his name to Graeme McDowell, Rory Mcilroy and Padraig Harrington. Matt played in an all Irish final with travel buddy, roomie and friend Hugh Foley who has also enjoyed a stellar season on the amateur circuit. The final was interestingly played over two days owing to a rain delay from earlier in the week which involved the finalists heading out for a steak dinner in the evening and no doubt discussing the day ahead. Matt now looks forward to a big year in 2023 with a spot in the US Open at LACC, no doubt an invitation for the 2023 Masters at Augusta National and selectors will find it tricky to not pick Matt we suspect for the Walker Cup in 2023 at St Andrews.

The first round of CAO offers came out yesterday and there was great excitement and nerves around the country from those hoping to get their places in college. Did you know Padraig Harrington went to college for chartered accountancy? Or that Brian Kerr worked as a lab technician, and Dáithí O'Sé was a teacher before he was discovered?

On this week's edition of the podcast there was only one place to start as Padraig Harrington collected a fourth Major title of his career at the U.S. Senior Open. Harrington held off a strong Steve Stricker challenge to win his first USGA title by a single stroke, making it two Irish wins on the weekend after a first pro win for West Waterford's Gary Hurley on the Alps Tour. There was also a top-10 for Stephanie Meadow at the KPMG Women's PGA where slow play and Lexi Thompson was the talk of the weekend despite In Gee Chun's victory. We also chat a near miss for Ruaidhri McGee on the Alps Tour and look ahead to this week's Irish Open at Mount Juliet. As ever, we hope you enjoy the listen. Padraig Harrington comes back to Jarlath and the Irishman Abroad podcast after 6 tumultuous years to talk about alternative sports psychology, getting your mojo back, coaching your kids, farmers with messages for other golfers and of course the LIV Golf tour. In the extended bumper cut of this episode (available via patreon.com/irishmanabroad ) we get to hear the raw unfiltered opinion of one of Ireland's greatest sportsman at a time when golf's future hangs in the balance. How has the controversial Saudi backed tour strained relationships among the players? Why is the sport of golf the biggest sporting whipping boy? Is it possible that this won't be the only breakaway tour that springs up? Jar asks Padraig if coaching our own children is a good idea in any sport and why "getting good" at whatever you're doing is not the key. Why do "funky swingers" prosper on the tour? Padraig has a few theories to say the least. After recently turning 50 we look back at the changes that have come over him in recent years and whether the burnout he experienced was at all avoidable. In this episode I got to chat with George Gankas who my mind is one of the top coaches of our generation. I don't think anyone has moved the needle more in how golf coaching is delivered all the while backing it up with an in depth understanding of human movement and golf dynamics. His ability to create distance for players across the board has made him a guru of sorts and numerous tour pros and elite amateurs throughout the years, including Sung Kang, Matt Wolff, Adam Scott, Padraig Harrington and many more have sought him out. For this podcast we were a little time poor so the conversation moves and develops along some changing lines for the 35 odd minutes. We discuss briefly George's work and thoughts on the mental game, having awareness or flow and how developing those skills has helped him assist his players through their own struggles on the course. We chat briefly about his ever-growing training aid collection and website and the challenge of creating an program that would reflect his patterns and techniques accurately. There is some talk about golf terminology and Butch Harmon as well as what he feels should be a priority in Golf Coach learning… All in all this was a really fun and very interesting conversation with one of the worlds best golf coaches.. Lastly, I hope for everyone listening to this to someday get the opportunity to meet George. When in his company you get to see a person who truly loves what they do and genuinely cares for all those who come in contact with him. Too often we see people with immense talent in a discipline nearly use it to distance themselves from the also rans and George is the complete opposite…. As I mention in the podcast I believe as talented as he is in swing, his true skills lie in how he treats other and the example he sets.Website: www. georgeganks.golfTraining Aids: www.gankassports.com

On this week's edition of the podcast we recap a thriller in Dubai, focussing our attention, rightly or wrongly, on the man who finished third, Rory McIlroy. We discuss THE shot, whether it was the right one to take on, and whether or not it will have a lasting impact on the four-time Major winner this season. There was plenty more to talk too, with Viktor Hovland claiming his third win in five events, Padraig Harrington purring to a top-10 finish, Irish Open chat following interviews with Rory and Seamus Power, the doom and gloom of those preparing their media spiels for Saudi, and much more. As ever, we hope you enjoy the listen. Don't forget to subscribe and let us know what you think.
It appears as though Luke Donald is leading the race to become Europe's next Ryder Cup captain - but would he be the right choice? Michael and Bryce debate that on this week's episode of The bunkered Podcast. Elsewhere, was Tyrrell Hatton right to have a moan about the par-5 18th at Yas Links? Is Monty right to be concerned about St Andrews' future on the Open rota? And should Padraig Harrington have said what he did about Bob MacIntyre's Ryder Cup strategy? The Irish Golfer Podcast is back for 2022 with this week's first episode fresh off a Sunday that left us wondering what might've been on the PGA and DP World Tours. The Seamus Power/Shane Lowry double looked very much on when the country shut its eyes on Saturday night but Irish eyes weren't smiling after disastrous starts for the pair put paid to their chances on Sunday. It was still a week where the positives outweighed the negatives with Rory McIlroy also showing encouraging signs and Padraig Harrington making a solid start to his season. We also discuss the hot topics sweeping the golf world, putting our necks on the line with our Major predictions for 2022 and so much more. As ever, we hope you enjoy the listen. Peter O'Keeffe is an amateur golfer from Ireland. In 2021 he became the first player in 26 years to win the Irish Amateur Close and Irish Amateur Open championships in the same year. The last player to do that was a young Padraig Harrington. O'Keeffe's experience in the game is wide ranging. He played his college golf in Louisiana. After graduating he returned to Europe and battled on the Challenge Tour before returning to the amateur ranks. O'Keeffe's outlook on the game has shifted over the years, and he drops nuggets of wisdom throughout our discussion both on the mental and physical side of the game. Since returning to amateur golf, O'Keeffe has built an online fitness presence, helping golfers of all ages and abilities play their best golf while getting stronger for a healthy life off the course, too. _________AMATEUR GOLF LINKSAmateurgolf.comAmateur Golf on IGAmateur Golf on Twitter____________PETER O'KEEFFE LINKSGolf StrongGolf Strong on TwitterGolf Strong on InstagramGolf Strong on YouTube
A discussion of youth (Cale Makar, Joe Burrow, Ja'Marr Chase) and experience (Aaron Rodgers), framed by a quote from Padraig Harrington at the 2021 PGA Championship: “People often ask in a general term about experience. Well, as you gain experience, you lose innocence. I suppose if you drew a graph, there's a crossing point of equilibrium where you have some experience and a certain amount of innocence and enthusiasm. As you get a little bit older and you get all this experience, on paper people might think you get better with experience, but as I said, you've seen a few things that you know in your game that you probably never wanted to see.”
On this week's edition of the podcast we round up another busy shift for the Irish around the tours with Stephanie Meadow's latest LPGA Tour survival act receiving top billing. The Jordanstown pro left it late to sneak back inside the top-100 on the Race to CME Globe on the number at 100, thus ensuring her full LPGA Tour card for next year. Where Meadow revelled in the finish, Leona Maguire was left to rue a closing 76 having bolted to the first round lead. It was also a case of what might've been for Padraig Harrington who narrowly missed out on this week's DP World Tour Championship. Remarkably, world number one Jon Rahm is among those opting out of the Dubai curtain closer. We discuss where that leaves the European Tour in the pecking order of the game's elite. There was also the small matter of Bernard Langer defying his age and the odds to claim another Champions Tour Order of Merit title. As ever, we hope you enjoy the listen. Don't forget to subscribe and let us know what you think.
I'm joined this week for a fascinating chat with deepfake creator and impressionist Steve Connolly. We caught up with Padraig Harrington and Chris DiMarco ahead of the Constellation Furyk & Friends event in Jacksonville. Soly of course wears Padraig out on the Ryder Cup, clarifies a few things that have surfaced since the event concluded, talked about the future, how the US has copied the Europeans, the Tiger effect, and a lot more. And on the back half, Chris DiMarco joins to chat about his run in the mid-2000's, the 2005 Masters with Tiger, the 2004 PGA, injury struggles, the claw grip, and a lot more.
In this episode, Hal and Chase sit down with acclaimed sports psychologist and author, Dr. Bob Rotella. He's worked with Jim Furyk, Davis Love III, Justin Thomas, Padraig Harrington, Darren Clarke, Rory McIlroy and Brad Faxon, just to name a few and joined Be The Right Club Today Podcast to share what he knows about the mental game. They discuss playing with a quiet mind, handling nerves and tension in your golf game, achieving your potential, and so much more.

Well... that was extraordinary. A record-breaking Ryder Cup win for a new-look United States and an emotional humbling for a European side largely unaccustomed to defeat in the contest. On this week's episode of the most opinionated podcast in golf, Michael and Bryce reflect on the 'Walloping in Wisconsin' and ask what's next for Europe? What changes need to be made to ensure this never happens again? Who will take over as captain from Padraig Harrington? And what now for Rory? On this week's edition of the podcast we review the only show in town, the Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits where Team USA lived up to their billing to record a record breaking win over Europe in Wisconsin. We react to the 19-9 demolition at the hands of Steve Stricker's immensely talented team on a difficult week for Europe's Captain, Padraig Harrington. We look at where the contest was won and lost, and what the manner of America's win means for the Ryder Cup as a whole as we take a view towards Rome in two years time. As ever, we have the Irish angle covered too in what was a highly emotional week for both Shane Lowry and Rory McIlroy. As ever, we hope you enjoy the listen. Enda first met Alan Kelly in 1999 when the Armagh football team were going well in the Ulster Championship. He had heard of Alan as a man who worked wonders with some of the country's leading athletes on their physio and injuries. DJ Carey, Nicky English, Maurice Fitzgerald….these were just some of the leading names he was working with before also going on to work with Brian O'Driscoll, Peter Canavan, Padraig Harrington, the Dublin football team – a who's who of elite Irish sports stars. But then ‘the Great AK' as he was known had to face his own battles away from the pitch, battling years and years of multiple cancers that just wouldn't go away. From being told he had months, weeks, even hours to live, he fought and never gave up. He wasn't afraid of dying, but he wanted to live, to be given a fighter's chance to see another day. Alan's story is one of resilience, hope, inspiration and belief. Belief that you will come through stronger, and belief in living, making the most of what's in front of you, one small step at a time. Dr Dave Alred MBE is an Elite Performance Coach who has mentored and coached world class athletes and teams in multiple sports, including Rugby World Cup winner, Jonny Wilkinson as well as George ford and Johnny Sexton. In the golf, he has supported the likes of Luke Donald, Francesco Molinari and Padraig Harrington. He has also worked with the England rugby team, The British Lions, the Springboks, the England Cricket team, and top football teams such as Manchester City and Watford.Focused on developing a performance mindset and attitude, Dave specialises in helping achieve elite performance whilst under pressure and delivering when tension is at its most extreme. You will hear Dave's approach to giving feedback and how he constantly explores how to do things differently, and to keep moving things forward. He has a skill of reviewing, analysing and learning from various sources, and applying this in his approach with his clients, demonstrating that while much of his work is in the sports arena, these principles can be applied anywhere. This conversation is not about perfection. It is about commitment, about putting your soul into it, it is about enjoyment and it is about knowing that you will experience the "ugly zone". It is also about knowing that going into the ugly zone is ok, as I know it helps me to focus on the process and effort without falling into 'negativity avoidance'. If you want to know more about the topics that we discuss then you can check out Dr Dave Alred's book - The Pressure Principle.
