Hold everything. We start today's pod with an update on Marks investigation into the debacle of the recent Top 100 Golf Course list. The person Mark suspected of being responsible, he has discovered was not, and he names the person who he says is responsible for it. Marks contact has gone to ground, and he is hitting a brick wall, particularly now he is enquiring about this named person.Mark puts the invite to the Top 100 Course people, that we'd like them to come onto the podcast to discuss the list. Open invite. And to make it easy you can contact us here.Mark also notes that he played Royal Melbourne this week and says 'It will be a miracle if Royal Melbourne is ready for the Australian Open'. Although the people there are confident it will be, Mark has his doubts having seen the condition of the course currently.Nick and Mark discuss Aldrich Potgieter's driving, and how much power he has. We have a look at his swing sequence and break it down. Nick and Mark would love to see him play the Australian Open and run through the Royal Melbourne holes and look at the clubs he'd likely use for each hole given his power.Tour Pro Jenny Shin tweeted this week about the amateur male golfers who think they can beat a women tour pro, could a scratch golfer beat a womens tour pro? Nick and Mark give their comments. Mark suggests that scratch markers could get a place in a tournament to 'embarrass them'.Padraig Harrington had a moment to forget this week in Colorado in the US Senior Open, we listen to what happened and discuss.Nick tells a story about being billeted in the US with his wife Alana when he was playing the Nike tour, and inadvertently wreaking havoc on their billets house. A dark side of Mr O'Hern that we've not seen previously is emerging. We chat about the Irish Open, the Scottish Open, and the leadup to The (British) Open. And the BMW International Open in Munich this week, Nick shares memories of playing the tournament and of experiencing the Autobahn!Top 5 from Nick today is on the Top 5 power swings in the mens game, and he plays a video of the most powerful hitter he ever saw - a golfer called Kyle Berkshire - who broke the golf channel hitting areas screen net once! Mark decides that we need to get Jordan Bovalina on the pod again to talk about power hitting.Lots of feedback - heaps of wolfpackers raving about 7 Mile Beach Golf Links, question from Keith on caddies and majors, a suggestion from a wolfpacker about Marks doppelgänger, and a request for a score rating from Dazza.PING globals from Nick are extensive as usual, lots of results to run through. And this weeks masterclass from Mark is on putting, and how to avoid topping your putts. We're live from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. The Rocket Classic in Detroit saw records set on Thursday and Friday, and a three-man playoff on Sunday resulting in a young South African phenom winning on the fifth playoff hole.In the LPGA, the team format Dow Championship went to a playoff between an America duo featuring a golfer who hasn't won in six years, and a South Korean team that found a way to win when the Americans couldn't.LIV Golf Dallas couldn't decide the event in three rounds so it also went to a playoff, and America's least favorite golfer claimed the trophy. The US Senior Open was in Colorado Springs and felt like 2005 as the Senior Circuit didn't disappoint with a Sunday that felt like match play. But it was Saturday's dust-up between Padrig Harrington and NBC's Roger Maltbie that stole the headlines.Alex is getting ready for a busy travel month and now is wondering after an internet argument: how fast is not fast enough in the left lane of the highway? In Tuned In, Michael is excited for the announcement of a new series based on the Mel Brooks classic, Young Frankenstein. One of the most anticipated new golf course developments is 7 Mile Beach in Hobart, and Tour Pro Matty Goggin is the man behind it. Nick O'Hern and Mark Allen gave Matty a buzz in Colorado, where he is preparing to play the US Senior Open this weekend, to ask him about the Hobart course.Mark has seen some photos, and says they are amazing. Matty explains that he was unsure as to whether they'd get water views, but as it turns out, you have water vista's almost everywhere. He describes7 Mile Beach as a 'classic links course'.He tells us where the course is currently at, in 'preview play' at the moment, and 18 holes will be operational by the end of 2025. And he explains why it will be a public access course, perhaps with a membership structure in tandem. And his desire for it to be a Top 100 course in the world. As you'd imagine, plenty of bureaucracy to navigate, which Matty understands but says it has been frustrating at times, but nothing moreso than the 'political football' that is the AFL stadium. He tells Nick and Mark that he 'can't think of another business that would have more impact in the history of Tasmania than an AFL club', and that the business model just works and everyone in Tassie should be on board. He comments that some people in Tassie have a 'bare minimum' attitude to doing things, which is unhelpful.A fantastic chat with Matty Goggin, and we're excited to see 7 Mile Beach when it's done! We're live from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. In Part 2 of this week's show, I'm joined by PGA Tour Caddie and in my opinion the best player in the history of the state of Tennessee Kip Henley, and one of Golf Digest's Best Young Teachers in America Eva Rogers. Kip Henley has a tremendous resume. As a junior player, he won the Chattanooga City Prep Championship and the Ewing Watkins Award for being the most outstanding junior golfer in the city. In college, he was an All-Southern Conference player at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He later became a Class A Teaching Professional and taught at a few local clubs before becoming a Tour Caddie. His playing accomplishments include: The Tennessee Assistant Pro ChampionshipTennessee PGA Section Championship 4 timesTennessee State Open twiceTennessee Player of the Year 5 timesWon The Golf Channel's Big Break II in 2004He added the Tennessee Senior Open Championship in June of 2023. He is a fantastic Caddie and has been on the bag for players like Steward Cink, Vijay Singh, Austin Cook, Brian Gay, Boo Weekly, and Grayson Murray. Kip takes us back to last summer when he won the state Senior Open Championship doing it in honor of his mentor and a staple in Tennessee Golf Warren Huddleston, who passed away. He also shares stories from his time caddying for Brian Gay including their 10-shot victory in the 2009 Heritage Classic. Eva Rogers was named by Golf Digest as one of the Best Young Teachers in America. She is also a certified US Kids Instructor. She teaches at one of the most historic courses in the country, Medinah Country Club just outside of Chicago. Medinah has hosted several majors including 3 US Opens, 2 PGA Championships, a US Senior Open, and the 2012 Ryder Cup. She is a bright star in our game, doing great things. Eva shares what it's like to call Medinah home and the great membership they have there. She was recently selected to serve on the 2024/2025 PGA Lead Team and we hear what they are working on. We also discuss how she keeps her junior players engaged and enjoying the game in a Tic Toc, immediate gratification world. She reflects on Nelly Korda's current historic run and the call she received from Illinois House Representative Jennifer Sanalitro regarding Eva's success in a male-dominated industry.

Why is the age 50 considered to be a rookie in golf? When Craig started thinking about The Champions Tour and the steps to get his game ready to compete at the professional level. He won the qualifier at Edgewater CC in Portland shooting 65. The reason why he went there to qualify for The US Senior Open. His thoughts on the course the open was played, which was Sentry World in Stevens Point, WI. Did the course change throughout the week? What his day was like with an afternoon tee time on Day 1? Was the quick turnaround from a late tee time Thursday to an early one on Friday an issue? Challenge to play smart vs trying too hard….After making the cut, did he feel more relaxed on Saturday? He birdied 2 of the last 3 holes on Saturday, did he find something as he carded -5 on Sunday. Did Craig notice he was appreciating things more, the support from the Vegas community, and will we see him more on The Champions Tour?  Craig Barlow Links:Bio: https://highperformancegolf.com/craig-barlow/HPGI: https://highperformancegolf.com/Craig Barlow Podcast: https://www.beforethelightspod.com/beforethelights-episodes/craig-barlow-pga-tour-veteranCraig Barlow is Back Podcast: https://www.beforethelightspod.com/beforethelights-episodes/twqo0kalsmhs9dvy6pdwbc80l1jl2pChampions Tour Website: https://www.pgatour.com/pgatour-champions Before the Lights Podcast Links:Become a BTL Member: https://www.beforethelightspod.com/supportBefore the Lights Website: https://www.beforethelightspod.com/Get Tommy a Glass of Vino: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/beforethelightsPlease Rate & Review the show!Support the showFollow the show on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/beforethelightspodcast/Follow the show on Face Book: https://www.facebook.com/beforethelightspodcast/Follow the show on Tik Tok: https://www.tiktok.com/@beforethelightspodcast?lang=enFollow Tommy on Face Book: https://www.facebook.com/tcanale3Rate & Review: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/before-the-lights/id1501245041Email the host: beforethelightspod@gmail.com

Once again, Moonlight Tim returns to the course with Sam Meuret. This time they head west for the Mid-Amateur Qualifier. Like our previous episodes with Sam, this pod was recorded in two parts. Part one of the interview is Tim and Sam on the road to Shadow Ridge, and part two is the road home. The relationship between the caddie and the golfer is like the pitching coach and the ace or the quarterback and the offensive coordinator. Though Tim and Sam took a long break between podcasts and tournaments, they go together like a round of golf and an ice-cold 6-pack.   The road trip to Nebraska includes topics ranging from NIL deals to what it would take to get Sam into the LIV tour. The team talks about it all as they get ready for Sam's next shot. The design of a tournament like the Mid Amateur Qualifier is to give post-collegiate golfers (ages 25 and over) a shot at qualifying for the US Open or a US Senior Open. This qualifier takes Sam back to Omaha as he and Tim prepare to play Shadow Ridge Country Club.    In an effort to win an amateur title, Sam called Tim out of the bullpen. Tim went back to the exact outfit he wore the first time he caddied for Sam. However, the outfit didn't bring any extra luck, as Sam played well but not well enough. This was an 18-hole qualifier, so Tim and Sam had one day and one round to make it happen. Despite 15 solid holes, three scores added about seven strokes to his total and kept him from taking home the medal.   The drive home gives Tim and Sam a chance to break down the day. They go through everything from their flag-tattooed partners, an opponent withdrawing, figuring out where Tim can push as a caddie and where they can grow as a team. By the time these guys pull into Des Moines, they sound like they are ready to hit the range and get ready for the next qualifier.
