The Dr. Psych Mom Show podcast is absolutely fantastic! From the moment I started listening, I was immediately drawn in by the host's down to earth and relatable approach to discussing relationships. It feels like sitting down and having a chat with a close friend who isn't afraid to tell it like it really is. This show provides incredibly relevant information and tackles the highs and lows of marriages and relationships, reminding us that perfection is not always attainable, both in people and in partnerships.
One of the best aspects of this podcast is the host's refreshing approach to relationship advice. She doesn't sugarcoat anything or stick to politically correct answers. Instead, she dives deep into issues, providing honest insights that are often lacking in mainstream media. The show covers a wide range of topics, from communication skills to dealing with conflicts, infidelity to intimacy issues, and everything in between. Each episode offers practical advice that can be applied in real-life situations, making it highly informative for anyone seeking guidance on their own relationship journey.
Furthermore, I appreciate how the Dr. Psych Mom Show embraces imperfections and acknowledges that marriage isn't always perfect. Many relationships struggle with various challenges, but this podcast reminds us that it's okay not to have it all figured out all the time. With her relatable anecdotes and personal experiences shared throughout the episodes, the host helps normalize these struggles while offering strategies for growth and improvement.
While there are countless positive aspects of this podcast, one potential downside is that sometimes the episodes may seem too focused on specific relationship issues rather than offering a broader range of topics. While this specialization allows for an in-depth exploration of certain subjects, it may limit some listeners who are seeking advice on different aspects of their relationships. However, given the vast archive of episodes available, there is still plenty of content catering to diverse needs.
In conclusion, The Dr. Psych Mom Show is an exceptional podcast for anyone interested in delving into the complexity of relationships. With its down to earth approach, this show offers genuine and non-PC answers to a wide range of relationship issues. Whether you're seeking advice or simply want to gain insights into the ups and downs of marriages and partnerships, this podcast is informative, relatable, and overall, a must-listen for those navigating the ever-changing landscape of relationships.

There is some idea now that any woman with a loving husband wants sex. This could not be less true. Women may not want sex for all kinds of reasons that have zero to do with their husbands. They may be tired or stressed NO MATTER HOW MUCH HE DOES IN THE HOUSE (including 100% of the chores which I've seen many times), they may just have lower drives (remember there's a normal distribution of most every trait), they may have depression or anxiety, they may be older and at a changed hormonal stage, they may have a trauma history, they may be on medications that impact drive like SSRI's (or GLP-1 blockers as new research shows), they may have a condition with fatigue as a symptom like anemia or of course chronic fatigue. In fact, it's ANTI FEMINIST to say that a woman's drive would be solely due to a man, as women are not a purely reactive monolith. They are individuals with their OWN ISSUES AND PREFERENCES!My newest venture, including ALL BRAND NEW POSTS EVERY DAY: https://buymeacoffee.com/drpsychmom/postsJoin my awesome Midlife Women's Group here: drpsychmom.com/mwgTo get over 200 more episodes, most recently "You Don't Have To Attend Every Argument You're Invited To," subscribe here! https://creators.spotify.com/pod/show/drpsychmomshow/subscribe For my secret Facebook group, the "best money I've ever spent" according to numerous members: https://www.facebook.com/groups/drpsychmomFor coaching from DPM, visit https://www.drpsychmom.com/coaching/For therapy or coaching, contact us at https://www.bestlifebehavioralhealth.com/

When they start dating an avoidant partner, many people are still very close to a friend that fulfills their emotional or intellectual needs, who they flirt with (if they are honest). When the main relationship with the avoidant becomes more serious, like engagement or marriage, they end the friendship bc they want to engage fully in the relationship. Unfortunately, this is when it becomes obvious that the avoidant partner is not really someone who can meet their full emotional needs, and was only sufficient as part of an emotional harem. If you're in this situation, it is only a matter of time before you start questioning whether you can remain lonely in your marriage forever. This can also happen with same sex friends or even family! Parenting teenagers is not for the weak! Today's wide ranging conversation with a fellow psychologist in my area covers:- Screen time: limits vs freedom- Perimenopause/menopause and parental issues impacting how you show up at this parenting stage- Anxiety in parents and how this impacts school refusal- How parents are triggered by their teenagers based on their own histories- Why high achieving parents can find this stage particularly challenging- Both of our own experiences growing up and how they inform our perspectives!Dr. Resnik is awesome, smart, and down to earth. Meredith Masony is awesome. I met her ten years ago at Blog U, a now defunct conference for mommy bloggers, and she has since skyrocketed to internet fame. This is a very honest and open chat about periods, HRT, perimenopause, parenting teens, empty nest, being a woman in the public eye, breast augmentation (which we did a decade apart!), marriage issues, her "second mountain," the near death medical issues that made her want to live more authentically, addiction and both of our experiences with depression treatments... and so much more! This interview showcases a midlife woman who is not afraid to be real, which is why she's built up such a loyal following! Hopefully I get her on the show again one day. Enjoy! Today's episode discusses how to become 100 times wiser in a minute: Whenever you hear any relationship story from one side, assume if the partner told you their perspective you'd agree that the other one was terrible! Listen, I also used to think that everyone was a reliable narrator even through the initial years of being a therapist. The reality is that people unintentionally tell only their side. This isn't intentional lying. It doesn't even occur to them there is another lens, they cherry pick data point to confirm their worldview internally and then express it. Understanding this alone is transformative... But if you recognize that everyone INCLUDING YOU is an unreliable narrator... That is when you can truly evolve!Join the Midlife Women's group here: drpsychmom.com/mwgSubscribe if you love the DPM show! https://creators.spotify.com/pod/show/drpsychmomshow/subscribe and you'll get all my awesome bonus episodes! In today's longest episode ever, we go through the backstory of Brandi, who is a Developmental Psychology PhD and whose husband came out as transgender after years of marital dysfunction. What I love about Brandi, who I also knew in grad school, is how she owns her own contribution to this dysfunction, looking at her part through an attachment lens. Anyone who has been involved with an avoidant partner, who was lied to or cheated on, or who was in a sexless marriage that was later explained by something that could have been shared with you sooner (an affair, sexual orientation that wasn't disclosed, porn/sex addiction) will love this episode. Brandi credits her recovery and remarriage to EMDR, IFS therapy, and working on herself, but I also think her sense of humor and ability to be objective about herself and her situation played a huge part! Today I have an amazing guest who is a true expert on all things addiction! Duane Osterlind is a therapist who has been working in the field of addiction for two decades and who hosts the podcast The Addicted Mind. We discuss:- What is sex addiction?- How do couples repair after betrayal trauma/PTSD?- What is "deceptive sexuality"?- What is the role of childhood trauma in eventual sex addiction?- What's an "intimacy disorder"?Duane is a great speaker with lots of great ways to understand this issue, and is compassionate and fair to both partners in this discussion. We also discuss the timeline of repair, the changes he has seen in who struggles with sex addiction over the course of his career (hint: changes in age and gender), and how dealing with shame is an integral aspect of healing from sex/porn addiction and the havoc it can wreak on relationships and your life overall. Here are all of Duane's links!Novus Mindful Life CounselingThe Addicted Mind PodcastShame To ResilienceInstagram: The Addicted Mind Instagram Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/addictedmindpodcast/

I came up with this funny phrase in a couples session and told the couple it was too good not to use in a podcast! :) Some women feel like the CEO of the home, and they are okay with that, as long as the man acts like the COO or the CTO or anything but the CFO.... The Chief Fucking Officer. If all that your wife feels that you spearhead in the home is related to your spearhead, this isn't going to make her, another three letter acronym... Many guys think that a woman taking care of a man is a turn off to her, and think "The only thing I really want from her is sex, so that will be my only ask." Dr. Amanda Akers, one of our awesome Best Life clinicians, has a free flowing and often funny discussion with me about the ins and outs of psychoanalytic therapy. We cover myths vs reality, why both of us take a deeper perspective than CBT, our own thoughts about the impact of childhood in adulthood, and I ask her the most common questions I get from clients about this approach, like... how long does it take? Why does childhood matter in adulthood? And why does the therapist client relationship matter so much? Also covered: the idea of a "couple's world," and how therapy cannot create one but only return you to one if it existed!
