As Florida's 44th Governor from 2007 to 2011, Charlie Crist led Florida through the Great Recession and the Deepwater Horizon Gulf oil spill, always keeping his word to fight for the people. He helped lower the cost of doing business and living in Florida, increase transparency in government, strengthen Florida's economy and ensure the safety and world-class education of Florida's children. He prevented massive teacher layoffs during the recession, working with the Obama Administration to use federal stimulus funding to save 20,000 teachers' jobs. He stopped radical attacks on women's rights, vetoing laws to restrict a woman's right to choose. He led efforts to protect civil rights, taking action to automatically restore voting rights of non-violent ex-felons and to extend voting hours across the state for all Floridians. A staunch environmental advocate, he secured a landmark land acquisition to preserve the Florida Everglades, and fought to hold BP accountable after the 2010 oil spill that ravaged Florida's coastline. Today, as the Congressman from Florida's 13th District, Charlie Crist fights to create opportunities so every Floridian can thrive. In 2016, Charlie flipped a Republican seat and won election to Congress. Since then, he has built a record of working across the aisle to make meaningful change for Florida families. He worked with the Biden Administration to pass the American Rescue Plan, delivering billions of dollars to Floridians to rebuild from the pandemic. Nikki Mims-McGee is an native Orlandoan and has been a West Orange County resident for over four decades. Along with her deep roots in the community, Nikki has over a decade experience in community leadership with a focus on diversity and inclusion. As a candidate for Orange County Commissioner for District 6, Nikki's primary goal is to build a community focused on progress and prosperity for all; a place we are all proud to call home. Nikki is the daughter of the prominent owners of Mims Construction, ranked as one of the top ten concrete and masonry service providers in central Florida. Like her parents, Nikki is an entrepreneur and community advocate at heart. Nikki is the mother of a handsome teenage son and beautiful pre-teen daughter. Nikki also has two adorable and playful terriers, Cookie and Pablo. In 2002, during Nikki's undergraduate college years, she owned and operated a successful clothing boutique and later went on to open a mobile phone franchise in 2010. Nikki's future aspiration is to open a law firm and focus on the areas of Corporate and Contract Law. Being a skilled researcher and passionate about community initiatives, Nikki implemented and recommended policies regarding the Split Oak and WEBOR water rights initiative. She also sits on local boards to include the Orange County Charter Review Board (member since 2020), in which she drafted several charter amendments that appeared on the ballot and the Membership and Mission Review Board (member since 2020), whereby she was unanimously voted and appointed for both boards by all sitting Commissioners. Nikki received her Bachelor of Science in Political Science, Cum Laude, from Florida A&M University, a Master of Applied Social Sciences in Public Administration, Cum Laude, a Juris Doctor, with Honors, from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School – Tampa Campus, and a Masters of Law (LLM) in Corporate Governance and Finance, with a speciality in Trademarks.
ABOUT ROBERTA WALTON JOHNSON Roberta Walton Johnson currently serves as the General Counsel for the Orange County Clerk of Circuit and County Courts. She received two degrees from Florida A&M University–her undergraduate degree in 1996 and subsequently her Juris Doctorate in 2005 as an inaugural member of the re-established College of Law. Immediately after graduation in 2005, she joined Community Legal Services of Mid-Florida to litigate and provide advocacy on behalf of low-income clients in the areas of housing and public benefits. Roberta has held various roles throughout her career, previously serving with Orange County Government and thereafter with Voight P.A. Both personally and professionally, Roberta is a strong advocate for children and families in Orange County. She is engaged and active on multiple boards and committees including the Florida A&M College of Law Dean's Advisory Council, the Orange County Bar Association, the Florida 9th Judicial Circuit Pro Bono Committee, Orange County Government Board of Zoning and Adjustment Board, Orange County Bar Family Law Section, Paul C.
