The Orlando Magic are forcing out their only public address announcer in the franchise's 36-season history. Paul Porter will forever be the in-arena voice of the Magic. He was basically hired by Pat Williams, the cornerstone figure whose life is supposed to be honored this entire 2024-2025 NBA season, himself in 1989. Paul should get to decide on his terms when to walk away. This is another situation where the DeVos family and Alex Martins have handled a situation with a franchise legend very poorly. Dwight Howard, having been inducted into the team's Hall of Fame, has been announced as a first-ballot inductee into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Fully deserved and a no-brainer lock of a decision. Dwight gets in twice in the same year as the 2008 Team USA Olympic ‘Redeem Team' is also going in. Paolo Banchero continues his scorching hot post-All-Star break scoring streak as he won an Eastern Conference Player of the Week award. Didn't win the monthly award, but his play is a big reason why the 38-40 Magic are very close to reaching .500 and claiming the 7th seed in the East with four games left in the regular season before play-in action begins. All of that and more! #LetsGoMagic Warning: Adult Language

What are the real ways that we can embrace the complexity of our experiences? How can we let go of a scarcity mindset in favor of a mindset of abundance? How can we see the stories of others as adding something important rather than taking something away from us?What does it actually look like to make more space for people and their stories? How can we start to “build a bigger table”? Instead of dismissing our vision as unrealistic or unattainable, how can we learn to use imagination and hope as tools to make our dreams a reality? …Dr. Paul Porter is the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for the National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA). Like Abbie, Paul graduated from Ball State University and was a member of the Ball State Speech Team. Paul went on to earn his Master's in Communication and Rhetorical Studies at Eastern Michigan University and his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Indiana State University. Paul has worked on the development of programs and initiatives designed to help create inclusive environments for diverse student populations, as well as diversity strategic plans and program assessments. Paul has presented on topics such as multicultural competence and unconscious bias across the state of Indiana and nationwide. In this conversation, originally published in April 2023, Abbie and Paul reflect on meaningful experiences in their lives. Paul and Abbie discuss multicultural competence, cognitive schemas, and puzzles. Paul shares his journey into the world of communication, from 3rd grade tests, to junior high morning announcements, to high school and college speech, and beyond. Paul talks about when he first learned what ADHD and depression are, when he was diagnosed, and how this language changed how he saw himself. Abbie and Paul consider what it looks like to live out values around diversity, equity, and inclusion on a personal and organizational level. ..."If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other” -Mother Teresa “We are only but one conversation from the relationship that changes the rest of our lives” -Lee Mun Wah...Take the Survey here!Subscribe to the CosmoParenting Substack!Register for the 2024 CMMi Fellows Presentation here!...Stories Lived. Paul Porter is CEO of Premier Franchise Management (PFM) and a bonafide American success story. His unlikely path and humble origins are truly remarkable but perhaps what is more inspiring is the organization he has grown. PFM manages four unique brands, Premier Pools & Spas and Pinnacle Pools & Spas which focus on pool construction, while its sister brands, Premier Pool Service and Pinnacle Pool Service, anchor the pool service and maintenance division. Collectively, PFM did over $700 million dollars in revenue last year, which by all accounting makes them the world's largest pool company.  On this episode of Pool Magazine podcast, we chat with the CEO and co-star of the hit TV series Pool Kings to discuss the origins of how the company was founded and the creation of a successful franchising model that has grown to 175 offices across the nation. The Orlando Magic selected Paolo Banchero #1 and most people seem thrilled. Paolo is a 19-year-old beast who most likely will be Orlando's alpha go-to scorer for years to come. Paolo shined brightest on a Duke team with heavy NBA talent. When they were making their deep NCAA tourney run, his teammates and Coach K in his last season relied on Paolo when they needed buckets. Paolo is really mobile for someone 7-feet tall in shoes. He has an elite Paul Porter name and it'll be fun hearing Paul play around with ‘Paolo Banchero'. WeltHamm traded our 35th pick to the Lakers for cash and a 2028 second rounder, but did pick at 32 another 19-year-old freshman in Michigan's Caleb Houstan, a 6'8” guy who showed way more ability for Canada than for Juwan Howard's Wolverines. Sound familiar? Franz Wagner-esque maybe? So we have these new additions. We potentially have our next star on a Dwight, Shaq, or Penny level. Now what? Free agency starts this week. Player option deadlines are June 29th. June 30th at 6pm is when free agency starts. Will WeltHamm mostly keep quiet, or will they try to build this team into a contender for a playoff spot now? Hopefully the latter. Do not rest on your laurels, Jeff and John. Plus, a rant. Breaking down what happened at the draft party at Amway Center. Free agent and trade target discussion. To kick off our Innovators series this week we discussed the many changes the music industry has seen over the years with someone who's seen a lot of them and that's Paul Porter! Paul's journey dates back to his childhood growing up around the corner from Nina Simone and James Brown in New York City. His own career reached new heights as a radio personality and host on BET before later becoming an author, coach and speaker. We discussed his best selling book “Blackout: My 40 Years in the Music Business” and how it has become a staple for up and coming acts to help them avoid shady situations and peel back the curtain on the darker side of the industry. Today Paul resides in Florida running Muzicbizu to further help new acts seeking a long and healthy career in music while also recently becoming a grandfather and enjoying more family and personal time. We thank him for his contribution to the show! You'll also wanna hear a very wild Stevie Wonder story at the end of this one (just trust us lol). --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/provenknowledge/support

Asking and listening are the first steps in being a better ally. Another amazing conversation about the importance of male allyship and what first steps men can take to start being a bigger support to female colleagues and every woman in their lives. Today we have special guest Paul Porter  as someone raised with 5 Glaswegian Aunties, Paul has always been surrounded by kick ass women. Listen in to hear how thats not changed in fact he is surrounded by even more strong women not only with his family but in the career groups he helps build and manage.  Paul believes that male allyship is crucial and hopes that more men will step up and support women. It is about them standing by women, being more than performative allies and supporting them everyday.  We chat about what those first steps can look like and let’s be honest it's much easier than you think when you start to listen. In 2008 he quit his job in Hospitality and set up Porter HR - People called him crazy - especially as the financial crash had just started. What a journey it’s been, working with SME founders and owners.  Following a LinkedIn Local in Manchester, over 4 years ago, Paul joined The Career Mum group. He didn’t realise at the time what was ahead of him, but it opened up so many opportunities to support women along the way. The group has nearly 6000 global members and have done everything from mentoring to live take over week. Paul is a big believer in” if you can see it you can be it” – No more hiding!!  Last year,  Paul was part of the team that co-created and delivered She Has No Limits Virtual event, He knew that something had to be done to support women whose life & careers had been impacted by the pandemic overnight.    With support from Jodie Hill, Paul launched tHRive Club to support HR, People Leaders and Business in 2020 – we are now 700 strong and approaching their first birthday.   Paul believes that male allyship is crucial and hopes that more men will step up and support women. It is about them standing by women, being more than performative allies and supporting them everyday. After 12 years growing the business, I also took the step to join a long-term client as their Head of People. It was a big change to make, however, Paul has left Porter HR in good hands of his wife Kathryn, who transitioned out of a global role to take over the business.  Connect with Paul below.   Don’t forget you can get my monthly NEWSLETTER that shares the latest around the gender pay gap, book recommendations and good practices that are happening all over the place that support more women to step up and be recognised for the value they bring.   Get yours by clicking >> https://www.gemmastow.com/newsletter or book a chat  https://calendly.com/gemmastow-1/call-with-gemma #Resources     Get the White Paper ‘Visibility at Work: The Importance of Self Promotion for Women’s Career Progression:   https://bit.ly/WP2020podcast     Book a call with Gemma:   https://calendly.com/gemmastow-1/call-with-gemma     Get the newsletter:   https://www.gemmastow.com/newsletter Connect with your host Gemma Stow: Website: https://www.gemmastow.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/gemmastow/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/gemmastow Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nomorehidingpodcast   Connect with guest Paul Porter: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/hrconsultantuk/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/porter_hr Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/TheCareerMum/

YOU DO NOT NEED $50,000 To get on the radio @ HOWCEE PRODUCTIONS GOSPEL While some radio promoters today liken those days to the Wild West — a distant past — conversations with more than 30 people in the music industry familiar with the modern radio business indicate that payments to influence airplay are still a significant feature of the radio landscape. “It never went away,” says Paul Porter, a veteran of “urban” radio who discusses his experiences with payola in his 2017 book, Blackout: My 40 Years in the Record Business. “The old days of coming in [to a radio station] with a 12-inch [record] full of money [and offering] trips and cocaine are all gone. Now everything goes to LLCs and cash apps.” https://www.blogtalkradio.com/howcee-productions-gospel #HOWCEE RADIO Your Radio  DESCRIPTION Howcee Productions Gospel was created in 2000 with one goal in mind: to bring the world's most popular music and creative  content to the good people of Beatrice Alabama.  Originally, the founders of the station set out to expand the ears of the public and Howcee Productions Gospel has worked hard across the years to keep this legacy alive. Music industry veteran Paul Porter has released the book Blackout, an explosive look at the corruption running rampant in the music industry. Blackout details Porter's experiences in the music industry, from his first stint in radio in 1976 – when the busing riots in Boston sent him scrambling into WRBB at Northeastern University – to his tenure at BET and some of the nation's top-rated radio stations. “Blackout is a chronicle of my successes and failures, my dreams and disappointments in the music business,” Porter said. “It's filled with the secrets the music industry desperately tries to keep, the stories no one tells. I wanted to expose the truth about the industry I love.” Blackout takes readers on a ride through Porter's whirlwind of media jobs, working for and with some of the music industry's most colorful, well-known and scandalous players. It explores the insidious role of payola, an illegal practice that is firmly embedded in the music industry, deep in the grooves like tracks on a vinyl record. And it offers an inside account of how corporations killed Black radio and erased Black identity from mainstream Black music — and why Porter chose to fight back. The book has already garnered the endorsement of major cultural figures, including Chuck D of Public Enemy, who called Porter a “guru and visionary” and said “Blackoutwill truly explain why things are the way they are.” Tim Winter, president of the Parents Television Council, called Blackout a “compelling, personal story about how the music industry really operates” that “also offers an enlightening message of hope for the music industry and for its broader impact on our culture.” Joy-Ann Reid, host of AM Joy on MSNBC, said “Blackout is essential reading for anyone who cares about the history and future of African-Americans in the multi-billion dollar music industry.” Paul Porter has been a force in radio, music and television for four decades. His deep, seductive voice has resonated on the airwaves of many of the nation's top-rated radio stations, and he spent 10 years at BET as Program Director, consultant and on-air talent. Porter's expertise and activism have established him as a thought leader in the radio and music industry, and he is often sought out by major media outlets including CNN, MSNBC, SiriusXM, Entertainment Tonight and FOX News to comment on music, culture and race. He is the Co-Founder of music industry nonprofit Industry Ears and music and culture website Rap Rehab and currently serves as Program Director at Orlando's low-power FM station The Wire 98.5. Blackout is available for purchase at here. Mr. Porter was on our show talking about Blackout: My 40 Years In The Music Business. During our conversation, Mr. Porter talked about: – Why he believes everyone is important – Memories of growing up in Queens, New York and his start in college radio – When he knew that music would be his life and his first big break – Some of his major obstacles and how he overcame them – Why he feels his book has been successful – Some of the problems with the radio industry today including payola – How did his stint at BET happen and thoughts about BET today – The effect of video on Black music – The story behind the book and the response to it – Some of his favorite artists – How can the consumer change the music industry – His advice for people who want to get into the industry You can contact Mr. Porter via: Website The Wire 98.5 Twitter Instagram Rap Rehab Industry Ears Industry Ears – Facebook Email Visit our website at https://www.thedrvibeshow.com/ Please feel free to email us at dr.vibe@thedrvibeshow.com Please feel free to “Like” the “The Dr. Vibe Show” Facebook fan page at “The Dr. Vibe Show” Facebook Fan Page God bless, peace, be well and keep the faith, Dr. Vibe

GOSPEL RECORDING AND PERFORMING ARTIST, James Patterson WIT' HIS DEBUT SINGLE TITLE, BETTER (IS ON THE WAY) ON JERRY ROYCE LIVE! (WORLDWIDE)James Patterson has music ministry running through his veins. The Orangeburg, SC native is devoted to applying his God-given gift into every facet of his life to include his career. His accolades include a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from South Carolina State University. He is currently a music teacher and band director at Cross Elementary and Cross High School. This role allows him to have a huge impact in inspiring the youth. His greatest achievement as a music educator was celebrating the win of his pupil, Joshua Rogers, the Season 5 winner of BET's Sunday Best. In 2011 Patterson nearly lost his life. Almost 150 pounds overweight; he was hospitalized due to complications with diabetes. Realizing he was called by God he knew there was greater work to do. With the support and encouragement of family his artistry was birthed. God's prophesies has been fulfilled in James's life; as 2014 has proven to be a year of blessings. South Carolina has embraced the ministry of Patterson. He received 109, 637 votes, winning the WJNI Local Artist Competition to open up for Ricky Dillard at the 2014 Black Expo in Charleston, S.C. He has also had the opportunity to share the stage with such artists as Pastor H.E. Dixon, Lucille Pope and the Pearly Gates, Paul Porter and many more. His debut single, “Better” is scheduled to release the Fall of 2014. It's undeniably certain, that this is only the beginning for James Patterson. James's prayer is for his music to speak to the nations; letting them know that God is still able. His goal is to continue to convey the message of his songs through his life-living. Through it all, Patterson remains humble and committed to all that lies ahead of him with God as his strength and guide.

Some of the topics that we touched base on included the consolidation of all media outlets & how that effects the entertainment + information the masses get, what's REALLY the deal with 'net neutrality, what media outlets are truly "black owned" in the mainstream, the politics of the music industry behind the scenes, the importance of the Black Entertainment community getting into media policy issues and lots more! Due to our extended interview, new Black Agenda Report, Black University Radio Network and (B.U.R.N.) Direct EFX segments will be on next week's syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast episode.
