This essay by Renaldo McKenzie is a revised version of an originally Submitted paper to Prof. Ori Soltes at Georgetown University School of Continuing Studies on Date: October 25, 2021 as part of a final essay presentation in the Doctor of Liberal Studies Foundations Program. It was published in The Neoliberal Post by The Neoliberal in https://renaldocmckenzie.com in June 2023. The Essay link: https://renaldocmckenzie.com/2023/06/plato/ Abstract: This essay is a reflection on Plato's Phaedo, particularly regarding life, death, and the afterlife. In the Phaedo, one see's Socrates in Plato's eyes, Plato being a student of Socrates who seems infatuated with Socrates. The reflections here raise questions about why people wouldn't choose to end their lives if death brings glory, godliness, and beauty, and suggests that the gods created a system to prevent this through philosophical preparation. The passage also mentions a connection between Christian theology, particularly Calvinist and Armenians views of salvation, and the Socratic-Platonic philosophical foundation. Moreover, what was missing initially when we did this essay was the African influence from the time of Kamit. In this episode, we commented on the influence of Kamit on Plato and Socrates.... Hey Team! This week we've got Skye Waterson of Unconventional Organization back on the show to talk about the book she's working on, Focused, Balanced Days with ADHD. Skye is an academic and ADHD coach with over seven years of experience in adult education. She has studied various fields, including Psychology, Sociology, and Public Health, and is currently a Doctoral Candidate in Population Health. Skye also hosts "The ADHD Skills Lab" podcast, where she discusses research-backed tips and advice to help individuals navigate life with ADHD. Today, as I mentioned, we're going to be getting into her serialized book that she's releasing chapter by chapter as she works through them on Substack. Our discussion today focuses on what's already been released, regarding Skye's ADHD story and executive function but we also get into a whole host of other things from systems and calendars to burnout. If you'd life to follow along on the show notes page you can find that at http://hackingyouradhd.com/206 If you'd like to checkout Unconventional Organization or sign up for that newsletter go check out https://www.unconventionalorganisation.com/ This Episode's Top Tips Avoid overcomplicating your organizational tools, and try to rely more on basic principles, such as having a capture space, a prioritization system, and a scheduling system. Aim for 80% consistency with your systems and give yourself grace to bounce back after setbacks. No one will ever follow any system perfectly, so work on choosing tools and systems that can adapt to missed days without derailing your progress entirely. Don't forget to prioritize at least a little fun in your planning. Building dopamine into your day through enjoyable activities can help you stay consistent and avoid burnout.

Vanya Vaidehi Bhargav's book Being Hindu, Being Indian: Lala Lajpat Rai's Ideas of Nationhood (Penguin Random House India, 2024) undertakes a systematic intellectual study of Lala Lajpat Rai's nationalist thought through four decades of his active political life, lived between 1888 and 1928. It contests the dominant scholarly interpretation of Lajpat Rai's nationalist thought as the nascent stage of Savarkarite Hindutva, and highlights the internally differentiated nature of ‘Hindu Nationalism'. Showing that, by 1915, Lajpat Rai moved towards ‘Indian' nationalist narratives, it challenges the assumption that all ideas of Hindu nationhood necessarily culminate in Hindutva. An examination of Lajpat Rai's final nationalist narrative as a Hindu Mahasabha leader in the 1920s confirms the revisionist historiographical rejection of the oppositional binary that was long drawn between Hindu communal politics, on one hand, and secular Indian nationalism and secularism, on the other. Lajpat Rai organized a Hindu politics in service of a secular Indian nation-state. Nevertheless, the book pushes back against revisionist assumptions that Hindu communal politics and secularism can be championed together comfortably, and that the articulation of a Hindu politics alongside a vision for secularism reduces that secularism to little more than Hindu majoritarianism. Being Hindu, Being Indian argues for the need to take the analytical tension and contrast between ‘Hindu politics' and ‘secularism' seriously. Methodologically, the book constitutes an argument to resist reductionism and respect the nuances, complexities, fluidity, and internal tensions in an individual thinker's thought. Dr. Vanya Vaidehi Bhargav is an intellectual historian of modern South Asia, with interests in nationalism, secularism, and religious and political thought more broadly. A recent study involving commuters in Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland, found that women and people of intersectional identities were more likely to avoid using public transport out of fear of harassment.  Anti-harassment strategies proposed in that study promoted the idea of encouraging members of the public to become “active bystanders” during situations of harassment, where they could intervene by helping to de-escalate situations, reporting harassment incidents to transport staff and directly confronting perpetrators as a last minute resort. Oto spoke to Doctoral candidate Kirsten Tilleman from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Auckland, to discuss what active bystanders are and the role they could play in preventing harassment on Auckland's public transport

What is the difference between Haiti and Cuba and the other Caribbean Islands such as Jamaica and Barbados? In today's Lecture, we begin by asking the students to provide an answer from several options. The activity provided a vital introduction to the topic, exploring the paradox of sovereignty. The Lecture is part of a course at Jamaica Theological Seminary https://jts.edu.jm and a Lecture series by The Neoliberal Corporation , https://theneoliberal.com. The students in the class are taking the course via zoom from all over the world. The Lecture is delivered by Professor Renaldo McKenzie, Author of Neoliberalism, Globalization, Income Inequality, Poverty and Resistance and Doctoral Candidate at Georgetown University and Temple University Renaldo graduated from University of Penn and is a Penn Alumni. All of the above The Answer Reveals A Complex Tapestry of Independence and Adversity With its vibrant cultures, rich histories, and diverse peoples, the Caribbean region has long been a subject of fascination and study. Within this complex tapestry of Caribbean thought lies a brain teaser, a puzzle that invites contemplation and analysis. This quiz, exploring the nuanced differences among various Caribbean nations, catalyzes deeper reflection on the socio-political landscapes of these countries. At the heart of this brain teaser lies a question: What sets Haiti and Cuba apart from the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Trinidad, and Barbados? The options presented delve into a myriad of factors, from economic status to historical legacies, shedding light on the unique trajectories of these nations.Upon closer examination, the correct answer emerges 1, 4, and 5. This selection illuminates key distinctions between Haiti, Cuba, and their counterparts. Firstly, Haiti and Cuba are the poorest nations in the Caribbean, grappling with economic challenges exacerbated by external pressures such as embargoes and diplomatic complexities. Unlike their counterparts, who have experienced varying degrees of economic stability, Haiti and Cuba find themselves ensnared in a cycle of poverty and dependency. Secondly, the notion of granted freedoms versus taken freedoms emerges as a pivotal theme. While countries like Jamaica, Trinidad, and Barbados have navigated the complexities of post-colonial governance and attained a degree of political autonomy, Haiti and Cuba have a tumultuous history of fighting for their independence. Yet, despite their efforts to chart their own destinies, they remain ensnared in geopolitical struggles, their sovereignty undermined by external interventions.Thirdly, embargoes, shaky diplomacy, and international relations serve as formidable barriers to progress for Haiti and Cuba. Unlike their counterparts, who have forged diplomatic alliances and pursued avenues of economic growth, Haiti and Cuba find themselves marginalized on the global stage, grappling with the repercussions of contentious international policies. The crux of the matter lies in understanding the complexities of Caribbean thought and the diverse experiences of its constituent...Excerpt Ends. Submitted by Prof. Renaldo McKenzie. In the 335th episode of Expositors Collective, Mike sits down with Pastor Craig Babcock to discuss the unique challenges and opportunities of preaching through the book of Proverbs in an expositional manner. Both seasoned and novice preachers often find Proverbs challenging to preach (and Mike is no exception!) However, Craig, drawing from his PhD research, shares a transformative perspective on the book. Instead of viewing Proverbs as a collection of isolated maxims, Craig presents it as a progressive journey through a life—gaining knowledge and wisdom, being taught, and eventually becoming a teacher. This fresh understanding can be incredibly valuable for anyone looking to preach through Proverbs or simply wanting to deepen their grasp of this profound biblical book. In addition to this, the conversation delves into raising up the next generation of Bible teachers, offering solid insights and practical advice. And, for a bit of fun, Craig shares the unexpected benefits that come from wearing a suit and tie. Whether you're a preacher, a student of the Bible, or just curious about Proverbs, you're sure to enjoy this engaging and informative discussion. Craig Babcock attended Oregon State University and received a B.S. in Anthropology. He also holds an M.A. in Biblical Studies from Calvary Chapel University. Currently, Craig is a Doctoral Candidate at Liberty University in pursuit of a Ph.D. in Biblical Exposition. Pastor Craig has a heart for the local church and the Lord's people. Growing up in South Denver, Craig has spent the last 15 years of ministry as a pastor, church planter, and coach. Prior to being called into the ministry, Craig served in the Navy and in Law Enforcement. Craig's central focus of teaching is the Word of God and allowing the Lord to work in the lives of those who trust in Christ. Craig married his wonderful wife Christy in 2002, and they have three children. Craig enjoys running, being outdoors, and going on adventures. Curious to know more about how whole foods can transform your health during menopause? In this episode, Nikkiey Stott sits down with Autumn Smith, co-founder of Paleovalley, to dive deep into the power of whole foods and proper nutrition. Autumn, a leading voice in holistic nutrition and a doctoral candidate, shares her journey of curing her own digestive issues by switching to a whole food, organic diet.Autumn realized that truly healthy products were hard to find, and many marketed as grain-free or sugar-free were also nutrient-free. This led her and her husband Chas to launch Paleovalley in 2013, making essential nutrients accessible without added sugars, grains, or harmful ingredients. In 2018, they launched Wild Pastures, a regenerative meat delivery service working with sustainable farmers to raise livestock in ecosystems that mimic nature. From her days as a fitness trainer for the Tracy Anderson Method on tour with Jennifer Lopez to becoming a Master of Science in Holistic Nutrition, Autumn's passion for the healing power of whole foods is evident. Trump V Biden 2: Exploring NYC Black & Brown People's Support for President on The NeoLiberal Round

We did a unique study, polling black and brown people's support for Trump or Biden in New York City, particularly Harlem, Manhattan to ascertain how the black and brown population would vote if the elections were called today. This is part 2 of a series in response to a video clip on Twitter showing how blacks in Chicago are supporting Trump. We at The NeoLiberal Round decided to conduct a study via the podcast where we ask black and brown people at random who they are voting for and whether they are Republicans or Democrats and also their socio-economic status (financially stable or not), plus other demographical questions such as age, heritage - Caribbean, Latin America or African American with little to no connections to any foreign heritage, etc. The interviews comprised over 25 individuals from various age groups and political affiliations. We aired the interviews of the individuals who agreed to be interviewed on the show for the broadcast. The episode also contains an in-depth analysis of the interviews with the respondents. It wraps up at the end with a summary of the findings and the interviews which included a comparison of Philly black voters against NYC Black Voters. The findings will be published in The NeoLiberal Journals and The NeoLiberal Post at The NeoLiberal Corporation The episode is a compilation of the various video interviews we conducted between March 10th and March 30th in NYC on location at 125th and Morningside and other locations in Harlem. The episode starts with a clip excerpt of the respondents and the host on several takes mashed together for a sensational and epic blend which then segways into the introduction by the Host of the individual short interviews. This episode has over 10 respondents on short clips between 28 seconds and 4 minutes. Summary Points: 1. Many people who are Democrats say that they are voting for Trump, but the Republicans we spoke to indicated that they are voting for or supporting Biden. 2. Four/Five years ago, when Trump ran against Biden, many if not most New Yorkers in NYC, who may have been supporting or thinking about voting for Trump, would not bravely share or discuss this with anyone; for their safety and sanity. Today, that is not the case, as is evident in the episode, since many publicly, boldly, and bravely discussed some in groups with other onlookers around and others spoke so loudly as if they were delivering a gospel message at an outdoor church service. How does the Support differ? 3. College-educated, Versus the non-college 4. Financially stable Vis-a-vis those struggling economically and getting by on odd jobs or low wages 5. Caribbean/West Indians 6. Latin and Hispanic Americans 6. Abortion, Conservative Values 7. White Americans who are politically entrenched 8. Younger people versus Older peoples 9. Verbalizing support versus actually going out to vote on election day. This episode presents the article and provides some more commentary on the issue delving into the realities that many pundits and analysts have not included when addressing the immigration crisis, especially at the border today which continues to be a political issue that has helped to thwart any real solution to the problem. This culminates the Lecture exploring the changing attitudes towards Afro-Caribbean Beliefs at Jamaica Theological Seminary on July 23, 2023. Renaldo provided a powerful climax to the lecture exploring Caribbean Theology and the need to value Caribbean traditions of any influence. The Lecture delivered via the Zoom platform was dynamic and is infused with African drums, reggae music, and classical music in the backgrounds with added images and videos in the background to enhance your listening/viewing experience. Prof. McKenzie discusses with his class the importance and parameters of the study that is being conducted. Abstract: Research Plan: On Valuing African Identity through religious affirmations of African traditions. By examining changing attitudes towards Afro-Caribbean beliefs in Jamaica, this study aims to shed light on the impact of socio-political factors, religion, education, pop culture, travel experiences, and exposure on the evolving perceptions of Jamaicans. The findings will contribute to a deeper understanding of how societal changes influence cultural attitudes, promoting inclusivity, tolerance, and cultural heritage preservation. Ultimately, this research aims to encourage a more informed and respectful dialogue surrounding Afro-Caribbean beliefs in Jamaican society. Note: See attachment for Research Rationale in a proposal document. Introduction: Title: Exploring Changing Attitudes towards Afro-Caribbean Beliefs in Jamaica: A Study of Socio-Political, Religious, and Cultural Influences Introduction In Jamaica, there has historically been a negative perception towards African and indigenous spiritual practices, religious beliefs, customs, and faiths that draw influences from Urban Indian Heritage or African traditions. Rastafarianism, Obeah, Voodoo, Pocomania or pocco church, revivalists, and Muslim beliefs have often been marginalized, deemed as fringe, demonic, and unpopular, juxtaposed against the inherited traditions from European colonialism. The Judeo-Christian faith, such as Roman Catholicism, Protestantism, and evangelicalism, has been favored and considered closer to the truth and the ideal. However, in the 21st century, with increased exposure, awareness, critical thinking, and a more liberal lifestyle, particularly among the younger generation, it is crucial to investigate whether attitudes towards Afro-Caribbean beliefs are changing. This study aims to explore the shifting attitudes of Jamaicans and the factors contributing to these changes, considering demographics....The full study is available at ResearchGate: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/372364213_Exploring_Changing_Attitudes_towards_Afro-Caribbean_Beliefs_in_JamaicaCaribbean_A_Study_of_Socio-Political_Religious_and_Cultural_Influences Renaldo McKenzie is an Adjunct Professor at Jamaica Theological Seminary and has Lectured several courses including Caribbean Theology and Caribbean Thought, Apologetics, Christian History and Discipleship and Evangelism. It can be hard to stay up to date on research when you're busy working with clients. That's why I love being able to take these important topics and break them down into bite-sized chunks! Today, Landon Cowan, a Doctoral Candidate at Marquette University, shares with me his work on the research article, A Decision-Making Tool for Evaluating and Selecting Prompting Strategies. I think sometimes it can be difficult to see the importance of basic ideas, so we break some of these ideas down to their core. Landon defines a prompt as anything that elicits a desirable response. These are as simple as vocal modeling, visual cues, and gestures, and they are even more frequently used in everyday life with digital alerts and sticky notes. As we discuss the types of prompting and the need for relevant prompting strategies, Landon discusses common inconsistencies and cautions for some prompting. Always holding the final goal in view. The research article includes some really helpful flowcharts to help guide and make data-based decisions on prompting strategies that are relevant to your learner. Landon explains the charts and the other supplemental resources available that can not only assist therapists but can also aid in staff training for a consistent understanding of prompting.Be sure to check out the full article and find Landon on Research Gate and LinkedIn for questions and to follow his other work.
