In the business world, people often tie their identity to their jobs and professions. Maintaining this identity becomes a motive for what we do. In most instances, people are motivated to find time for things that build on this identity. But not the other way around. Getting people to do things they are not familiar with can be tricky. And setting high expectations for doing so can lead to failure and disappointment. In this episode, Robb and Ryan discuss the distinction between expectancy and expectation. When you enter into new relationships, keep expectations low sets the stage for pleasant surprises. As the relationship evolves, expectations can rise, and keeping the communication lines active is key to success.
