How To Cultivate A Culture Of Honor | Pastor Sean Thomas
Today, I want to share a message of hope—one that invites us to reflect on what progress truly looks like in our world today and how it should look moving forward. To help explore this topic, I'm joined by my business partner, Amy LeNoble, and returning guest Charles Hugh Smith.Charles has been writing about social, economic, and technological trends since 2005 on his widely followed blog. He's also the author of several thought-provoking books, including his most recent, “Mythology of Progress, Anti-Progress, and a Mythology for the 21st Century.”In this episode, Charles challenges us to rethink the foundation of our hope. He shares a powerful insight: hope is essential to humanity, but when it's based on fantasies or delusions, it becomes false hope. He explains how our understanding of progress—both its perception and its reality—plays a critical role in shaping genuine hope. We'll unpack the core ideas from Charles's latest book and discuss the broader implications of progress for individuals and humanity as a whole. You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in...Where society stands today and the path that led us here [3:40]How defining progress has impacted our purchasing power [10:00]Real progress as the wellbeing and sustainability of life [18:30]The key triggers that drive social change [24:40]Solutions that prioritize people over profit [42:30]Finding hope in the possibility of meaningful change [47:42]Charles Hugh Smith is not affiliated with or endorsed by LPL Financial or Capital Investment Advisers.Securities and Advisory services offered through LPL Financial. The teaching of spiritual covering is prominent within the New Apostolic Reformation. This teaching states that believers are to come up under a leader, typically an apostle, so that they can run with the vision set by that leader. By doing this, they will gain protection and blessings, and they will reproduce the spiritual fruit of that leader. However, it is also taught that leaving a spiritual covering results in demonic attacks and curses, as that spiritual protection is no longer available apart from the leader and his/her anointing. Is this a Biblical teaching? Join me as we consider this teaching in light of Scripture, and we consider the authority a pastor or spiritual leader has in the life of a born-again believer. A key to building towards a church in revival and sustaining a move of God is a Culture of Honor. How do we lean in to a culture that is safe and empowering, where we give room at the table to value others in grace?

Another key to healthy relationships is cultivating a culture of honor in your home. We don't talk about honor much anymore. We don't always know how to show it. In this episode we look at a few ways to create a culture of honor. Scriptures in this episode: Romans 12:10, Proverbs 15:33, Proverbs 18:12, Proverbs 22:4, Proverbs 29:23 Five Principles of Honor: 1 - Honoring someone is respecting their position. 2 - Honoring someone is not speaking ill of them or to them. 3 - Honoring someone is fighting against selfishness. 4 - Honoring someone is listening to their thoughts and feelings and taking them into consideration. 5 – Humility fosters honor.
In this episode we look at the nature of piety , why we think piety is one of the most important parts of recovering a classical Christian culture, and some practical ways parents can cultivate an atmosphere of piety in the home. There was an immediate bond between them, for Jonathan loved David. From that day on Saul kept David with him and wouldn't let him return home. And Jonathan made a solemn pact with David, because he loved him as he loved himself. 5 Whatever Saul asked David to do, David did it successfully. So Saul made him a commander over the men of war, an appointment that was welcomed by the people and Saul's officers alike. When the victorious Israelite army was returning home after David had killed the Philistine, women from all the towns of Israel came out to meet King Saul. They sang and danced for joy with tambourines and cymbals. This was their song:“Saul has killed his thousands, and David his ten thousands!”This made Saul very angry. “What's this?” he said. “They credit David with ten thousands and me with only thousands. Next they'll be making him their king!” So from that time on Saul kept a jealous eye on David.(14-15) David continued to succeed in everything he did, for the Lord was with him. When Saul recognized this, he became even more afraid of him.√ PRIDE√ RESENTMENT√ FEARI Samuel 18:20-21 (MSG) Saul's daughter Michal was in love with David. When Saul was told of this, he rubbed his hands in anticipation. “Ah, a second chance. I'll use Michal as bait to get David out where the Philistines will kill him.” So again he said to David, “You're going to be my son-in-law.”James 4:1-2 (NLT) What is causing the quarrels and fights among you? Don't they come from the evil desires at war within you? You want what you don't have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can't get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. A UNITED HOMEJohn 17:23 (MSG) The goal is for all of them to become one heart and mind—Just as you, Father, are in me and I in you, so they might be one heart and mind with us. Then the world might believe that you sent me.I. A CULTURE OF HONOR. Romans 12:9-10 (NIV) Let love be genuine. Hate what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.√ We believe the best.Philippians 2:3 (NLT) Don't be selfish; don't try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.√ We speak life-giving words. II. A HEART OF GRATITUDE. Psalm 138:2-3 (MSG) Thank you! Everything in me says “Thank you!” Angels listen as I sing my thanks. I kneel in worship and say it again: “Thank you!” Thank you for your love, thank you for your faithfulness; Most holy is your name, most holy is your Word. As believers, we are called to live differently. We are called to cultivate a culture of honor. In today's episodes we will discuss seven spheres where they bible calls us to honor, and how to honor.

Responding To The Culture Of HonorToday we are taking a look at the popular charismatic book "Culture of Honor" By Danny Silk. In this book, Danny gives the "secret sauce" to Bethel's success. He claims that honoring individuals for who God has called them to be has been the foundation for the success of the movement. However, after reading "culture of honor" we found It to be more of a charismatic ecclesiological playbook. A playbook that frankly dishonors the gifts of the Spirit that God has established In his church. Honestly, a big part of me does not want to respond to this book. I think Danny Silk is trying to respond to an unhealthy imbalance of spiritual gifts, and he is trying to solve a real problem in the body of Christ. Unfortunately, he is overcorrecting and erroring in the opposite direction. I fear that videos like this make us look unnecessarily combative. Nevertheless, I have been told by multiple Charismatic leaders that this book is the epicenter of the toxic Charismatic culture we are seeing everywhere. So, in this video, we will be spending most of our time responding to the claims Danny made in Chapter 2. Hopefully, we can engage with Danny's teachings without mincing words or pulling punches while still Honoring the man who has made such positive Impacts In the body of Christ.
