Happy Labor Day - if you're in the US go hug a union member. Also - Happy Hank Got a Vintage Shortscale Day!Your buds push through some Hank pain to talk a bunch about his birthday present, a 1968 Gibson EB-2 bass in Cherry finish with hilarious added EMG pickup. Shorty! Also discussed: AC15 updates, Marshall Amp anniversary, Chicago Music Exchange hangs, Fulltone shutdown and OCDs going wild, stolen George Harrison Les Pauls, Mark Morton making the leap to Gibson, FN Meka and AI art, Janet Jackson crashing Windows, The Cars and Elliot Easton, and the potential pedal of the year from MXR and Analogman - the Duke of Tone.Localize it, as they say.
Summer's winding down here in the States but the gear deals are just starting to heat up!This week was a bit of a grab bag of gear (yes we talk some more about Dave's Les Paul) so why not settle in with your neighborhood friendly Gearbuds and learn a thing or two? Also discussed: Dave's AC15, the Headache Nine of Swords, Black Bobbin Boost, EHX J. Mascis Big Muff, Acorn Amps Bweep Mini Fuzz, Neural DSP Rabea plugin, Nathaniel Murphy at Martyr's, mystery Gibson body shape, Busch Light DIY guitars, Fender Personality Cards, houses shaped like guitars, Bass Player ending its print magazine, Taylor Hawkins tribute show, and John Fogerty being a dick. They all just sorta look like a PRS.
It all comes down to this. Mina Monisario, in disguise, must join with her sworn enemies, the fanatical Machine Cultists, in a final, desperate battle against the Piperunners for control of the explosives stashed beneath the Great Machine. And if she fails, the entire city is forfeit! (50/50) No NPC Tactics NPC opponents have an Aggression rating of 1 to 6, with most starting on 4. As they take or inflict wounds, gain or lose the advantage in a fight, NPC opponents' Aggression will raise or lower. Experienced fighters will change only a small amount, while green, frightened or vengeful opponents will change more. Each time someone in the fight (either PC or NPC) suffers a setback, there should be a chance for Aggression to change. If the NPCs are nervous or demoralised, Aggression will drop when they suffer a setback and rise when a PC does. This is the audio from our video here: https://youtu.be/3zbo_ZGxvZc We demo and compare guitar amps using EL84 power tubes: Vox AC15 C1, 1961 Vox AC30, Victory VC35 The Copper and Matchless HC-30. We play clean, crank the amps to overdrive and also use a couple of key boost pedals. Life too short for long YouTube videos? Please see the ‘Interesting bits and go-to sections’ information below. In this episode Dan and I fire up four amps that we like very much to see what we can learn. Dan’s beloved 1961 AC30 is his most treasured amplifier… but not the one he chooses to play as his main amp. That would be his Matchless HC-30 which – as amp fans will know– is chiefly inspired by those classic Vox amps of old. So how do they compare? But fear ye not those of thinner wallet. Clearly not everyone has multiple thousand pounds/dollars/euros to drop on these rarefied lungs of rock’n’roll, so we also include the much more attainable Vox AC15 C1 and Victory VC35 to see how they stand up. (And if you want to hear a digital simulation side by side with the AC30, watch next week’s show on the Strymon Iridium.) It’s a long video with plenty of tangents, even more variables and about as much scientific analysis as a three-year-old eating trifle, so anyone looking for stringent A/B comparisons and hard conclusions will be disappointed. It's just how it is here people. Enjoy the episode! Chasing Tone - Guitar Podcast About Gear, Effects, Amps and Tone
One of the most common questions we get through our website is this: "How should I set my _____ pedal to get the sound from this song ______ ?” Unfortunately, that's something that we can't really answer. It depends on a myriad of different things including but not limited to what amp you're playing, how you have it set, what guitar you're playing, how loud you're playing, and that's not even taking into account the playing style... as there is indeed alot to be said for "tone is in the fingers". In this special Tone Tips edition of Chasing Tone, Brian takes three pedals, the Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive, the Nobels ODR-1 Overdrive, and the Proco Rat Distortion, sets them all the exact same, and plays through 6 totally different amps. However, with that said, we do of course offer a "starting point" for different sounds in our own manuals but it's just a point of reference. Sound is more complicated than knob settings. ;) Of course, even though it's a clickbaity title, there are indeed exceptions. Delays and reverbs for example are a little easier to predict how to set to get certain tones and sounds, but dirt pedals? That's a different animal. Also, Brian was incorrect about the Nobels, looks like they are about $100 now. You can find them on amazon though: http://amzn.to/2jpzO4S Find us at: http://www.WamplerPedals.com http://www.Facebook.com/WamplerPedals http://www.Twitter.com/WamplerPedals http://www.Instagram.com/WamplerPedals http://www.Facebook.com/ChasingTonePodcast http://www.Instagram.com/ChasingTonePodcast

Chasing Tone - Guitar Podcast About Gear, Effects, Amps and Tone
We're doing a new special segment, called "Tone Tips". These segments are a bit shorter in nature, and feature tips about getting better done, and demonstrating them. For years I had always wanted the ability to be able to show up to a gig with my Blackface amp (which I preferred with overdrive pedals), but I wanted a Vox-y chimey type of clean tone when necessary. I worked on different variations of circuits over the years, trying to achieve this. Finally, I hit upon it. That circuit became the Ace 30, which then became the 30 Something. Why the name change? Long story. Anyway, the 30 Something pedal really excels at being what Lotus Pedals coined "an Underdrive". Yes, it can get a bit gainy, but using it as a clean platform is where it shines. It also works very well when you stack other overdrives into it, getting a sound very similar to what it would be like if you ran that pedal into those British style chimey amps. So in this special episode of The Chasing Tone Podcast we bring you a demonstration of a Vox AC-30, AC-15, and a deluxe reverb with and without the 30 Something.
