    Ivy Insights

The Chasing Tone podcast is a must-listen for any guitar enthusiast looking for a fun and entertaining show about gear, effects, amps, and tone. With its unique blend of humor and informative discussions, this podcast keeps listeners engaged from start to finish.

One of the best aspects of this podcast is the dynamic between the hosts. Brian, Richard, and Blake have great chemistry and their banter is always entertaining. They have a knack for finding humor in random situations and joking about it for extended periods of time, which adds a fun element to the show. Additionally, their conversations often veer off into unexpected territories, resulting in hilarious and memorable moments. The hosts also bring their own unique perspectives to the table – Brian with his mad scientist-like knowledge of guitar gear, Richard with his stoned demeanor, and Blake with his impersonations – creating a well-rounded and enjoyable listening experience.

However, one downside of this podcast can be its tendency to go off-topic for extended periods of time. While some may appreciate the random tangents and jokes, others might find it distracting or wish for more focused discussions on guitars and gear. Additionally, there are occasional complaints about one host dominating the conversation or being overly focused on certain topics that may not appeal to all listeners.

In conclusion, The Chasing Tone podcast is a well-executed train wreck that manages to entertain while providing information on space aliens, military coverups, and even guitar gear. While it may not be everyone's cup of tea due to its occasional lack of focus or tangents, it offers a refreshing change from more serious or technical podcasts in the genre. Whether you're looking to nerd out about gear or simply enjoy some laughs with like-minded individuals, this podcast is worth a listen.

Brian, Blake, and Richard are joined by a very special guest this week for Episode 551 of the Chasing Tone Podcast -  Tracii Guns tells us about his favorite pedals, plugins, and pajamas!   Please be aware this episode contains infrequent swearing and drug references - not suitable for minors! This week the guys are pretty stoked to have one of Brian's all-time guitar heroes on the show. Tracii Guns is a legendary LA based guitarist, super talented player, and happens to be the founding member of a couple of huge bands you may have heard of. He also has a vast amount of stories and anecdotes to recount...and they are seriously funny. Brian drills straight into the culture of the Sunset Strip scene of the 1980s as the guys take a "behind the scenes" peek into the LA rock scene of that era. Tracii talks about some of the legendary bands he played alongside when LA Guns first made it, including Mötley Crüe, Skid Row, WASP, and a whole bunch more. Richard looks at the differences between the English and the US Music scene of that period and Tracii has some great insights and a mutual love of some classic British bands.Blake asks about the early days of Grunge and how that changed the direction of rock and Tracii gives us a candid and hilarious take on how that played out and what it meant for the musicians of the time. Tracii then tells us how Brian helped him through an existential rig crisis and you might be surprised by the fixes they came up with.http://www.lagunsmusic.com/ The Nigels, The Rock Sock, Kid Creole, Steve Vai, Rockman stories...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!We are on Patreon now too!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/chasingtonepodcast)Awesome Course, Merch and DIY mods:https://www.guitarpedalcourse.com/https://www.wamplerdiy.com/Find us at:https://www.wamplerpedals.com/https://www.instagram.com/WamplerPedals/https://www.facebook.com/groups/wamplerfanpage/Youtube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdVrg4Wl3vjIxonABn6RfWwContact us at: podcast@wamplerpedals.comSupport the show

The guys welcome a very special guest this week - John Mlynczak, president and CEO of NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) - and he gives us an in-depth and candid history of his involvement with NAMM and what that actually entails. We all know about the show (that Richard will never be allowed to go to) but NAMM stands for so much more for the music community. John gives us a fascinating breakdown of his personal musical and work history, how he landed the job, and just how many hats he wears. We couldn't have recorded this episode without discussing the tragic fires that are currently raging in LA. John gives a passionate and emotional response about what the fires mean for the show, what they mean for the wider community, and what NAMM are doing to help. He also confirms exactly what the situation is with regards to the show this January so if you have read any rumors, and are unsure about what's going on, John sets everything straight. Will Blake eat his entire bodyweight in barbecued meat? Yes to all three - maybe! They have fantastic stories to tell and a great perspective on the music industry and we think you will absolutely love this episode. The conversation continues into a look at the state of printed and online guitar magazines and the future of music publishing and advertising. This turns into a discussion about Scott's past with Gary Vaynerchuk, and an unusual coincidence that brought all the guys together. This is quite the origin story with at least one common thread - the guitar. David Gilmour may also get a mention. The interviewers become the interviewed as Judd and Scott ask Richard and Blake about how their love of the guitar properly started and we go deep with some psychology that resonates with everyone. Blake struggles to stay awake. Brian talks us through his modification and talks a little bit about this classic boost circuit and this turns into a little bit of a primer for guitar effects in general. Blake has been roleplaying and it takes the guys buy surprise so they go off on a tangent into the world of robots before Brian tells us of his gaming tactics. Richard insults him before they discuss a documentary about 1980s hair metal that involves ridiculous meat based antics. He also met one of his heroes and saw some live music which wasn't related to Pink Floyd and asks the question - who is the greatest Female Telecaster player of all time? SNL made a sketch about Oasis and it did not go down well. Meanwhile the guys have been lusting over the Greg Koch "Koch Ness Monster" pedalboard and Brian finds inspiration from Robert Keeley. This flows smoothly into a conversation about compressor pedals, feed-forward designs, and the EGO 76. Richard also has views about the new David Gilmour Album, Luck and Strange, and he can't wait to tell us. Brian is not thrilled. But it leads onto an interesting conversation about acrobatics vs feel in guitar playing. There was other big news in the music world with the re-emergence of Linkin Park and the guys have a lot of views about this - especially Blake who grew up on their music - and it spins into an interesting and candid conversation about music in general. Somehow the Doors are involved too. Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 518 of the Chasing Tone Podcast Blake has been standing to work for a long time and it is energizing him so the guys discuss the merits of office furniture. Yes, you read that correctly.  This turns into a conversation about how you apply Tolex correctly as Richard thinks about building his own amplifier.  Do you wait before you switch on the stand-by switch on your amplifier? The guys ponder this age old question.Richard invokes a hellish rebuke from Brian when he tries to convince him that MIDI is the future for amplifier control and a robust and bizarre conversation ensues.  Richard has been thinking about digital modelling and Brian is not happy with him, but he and Blake also have some new gear and it somehow involves the Insane Clown Posse.  Richard is also worried about taking his favorite combo amplifier to gigs until his personal amp tech intervenes... What size pick do you use when you play guitar? This question provokes a variety of responses from the chaps and Brian desires a new sponsorship.  Speaking of Brians, Brian May has just made a not particularly surprising announcement about a collaboration with Gibson.
