It's the latest of our Women's Football review as John B and Dave take a look at recent events in the Scottish game. The Scotland National Team had a good Easter weekend with a 1-0 win over World Cup hosts Australia in London, and followed this up with a resounding 4-0 win over Costa Rica at Hampden. 17 year old Emma Watson grabbed most of the headlines with two eye catching performances, and two goals at the National Stadium, and the guys talk up her prospects, including a potential move to Manchester United though staying at Rangers can't be ruled out. With the inaugral Nations League draw looming, it was two confidence boosting wins for Pedro Martinez Losa's side as they seek to reach the next European Championship Finals in 2025. Before last weekend, Glasgow City were eight points clear of Celtic and nine ahead of defending champions Rangers. Consecutive home defeats to the Old Firm within four days has whittled that gap down to just three points between the three sides. Can Leanne Ross galvanise her side to recover from those setbacks and reclaim the title, or will one of their city rivals pounce? At the other end, Aberdeen took a huge step towards safety with consecutive wins over Hamilton and Dundee United, taking them eight points clear of Accies in that playoff position. The battle to face the SWPL1's 11th placed side is intensifying with seven points seperating four teams, with Montrose closing in on the SWPL2 title thanks to a commanding ten point advantage. It's a big weekend in the Women's game as the Scottish Cup Semi Finals take place, and the first time both will be at Hampden. Treble-chasing Rangers face underdogs Motherwell on Saturday at 1230pm, whilst it's a repeat of last seasons final on Sunday as holders Celtic take on Glasgow City, again at 1230. Tickets are £10 adult £5 concessions so anyone who can should get along to the National Stadium for potentially two cracking Semi Finals. My guest this week is Head Coach of Edinburgh Accies - Iain Berthinussen. This interview was recorded in February of 2023 and we talked about Berti's remarkable feats of endurance, his experience with testicular cancer, the amazing new Accies clubhouse, growing up and learning rugby in the Scottish borders, playing overseas in Australia, and growing rugby with the BATs programme in Edinburgh. Berti's landline rang for the first time in several years and a pack of dogs started barking outside my room, but it didn't detract from a fantastic chat - I hope you enjoy! Sarah Rhind is the current Hamilton Academical Women's FC number 1. Alongside playing for the Accies in the Scottish Women's Premier League 1, Sarah also works for Street Soccer Scotland, an organisation that brings football to socially disadvantaged groups, and who Sarah credits with supporting her in her own football career and personal life.Sarah is easily one of the most inspirational people that we have had on the podcast to date. From an early age she suffered with anxiety and negative self-image, which led to extremely tough periods in her life. This included using self-harm as a coping mechanism, but also later an addiction to drugs. But at her lowest and with the help and support of those around her, Sarah was able to turn her life around. As well as her football, which she credits as always being 'her escape', Sarah also shares other lessons for anyone experiencing similar issues on how they too can find themselves in a much better place. Please check out our other podcast episodes, and head over to www.tabooontheterraces.co.uk to find helpful resources and contact information if you have been affected by any of the issues raised in this episode.

Andrew Slaven, JJ Bull and Laura Brannan are back, just as the Premiership is getting really good. It’s never over with Hamilton. The Accies and the Staggies both win as the bottom 3 are now separated by just 3 points. Rangers are 2 games away from an unbeaten league season as they hammer Celtic 4-1. What happened to Celtic this season and how big is the rebuild? We sing the praises of Devante Cole, one of the star performers of 2021. And St Johnstone manager Callum Davidson can afford to play the second string and still win. Plus which Premiership striker looks like the lead singer of Future Islands? And could Motherwell producer Laura Brannan get shown a yellow card on a matchday? The Highland Bullpen Episode 11 - A baseball and football podcast from Scotland The Bullpen Bro's get together and after a quick reflection on Dave Jr's White Sox ultimate play offs demise they discuss the various roles a pitcher can undertake and ponder what makes one pitcher end up with his “chosen” role. Moving onto development of young talent in the game the Bro's acknowledge Hamilton Accies, Scottish football Premiership club, excellent work in developing young stars. But any chat on the Academicals can only lead to a random discussion of football team names (Dave Snr has an inspired moment in recognising Accies don't have a unique name even in the Scottish game). The conversation progresses to sporting annuals and the shocking discovery that both baseball and Scottish football have a revered annual of the same name! Off podcast research even suggests they started around the same year….. Dave Snr rounds the episode off with a review of the Rays defeating the Yankees in a dramatic 5th and final series game.

With 36% of parents separating before a child reaches 16 years old, there appears to be an epidemic of ‘fatherlessness’ in the country – 65,000 children are said to be affected by this epidemic, resulting in 10% of all births in any one year ending with a child living in a single parent family. Here and in the US, many children are growing up without ever having a father in their lives. Does the adversarial court system set up a polarization, and where is the government strategy to support parents who separate? We invited Michael Lewkowicz, director of communications for Families Need Fathers, onto Sputnik to talk about shared parenting and shared rights. Hamilton Academicals or ‘the Accies’ are a grand old Scottish football team. Colin McGowan is the CEO of the club but he is also the main force behind the charity Blameless. Addiction to drugs and alcohol in Scotland has cut a swathe across the country for many years; every four hours there is a suicide due to drugs or alcohol abuse. But the suffering reaches far beyond the addicts themselves, destroying families and, in particular, the lives of the children of addicts who are themselves exposed to the abuse. Colin has seen suffering from both sides, so we invited him onto the show to tell us about the atrophy of life chances of young people and how the Blameless charity is trying to help.
In our penultimate Season Preview Podcast, Seán McGill chats to Ben McNicol, Hamilton fan and fellow student journalist who has received bylines in the Daily Record, among others places.
