We begin a new series on Bible Streams, partnering with our church-wide Riverlife series "Covenant". Scott and Jo take a look at what covenants are in the Bible and examine three main covenants from the Hebrew Bible. When examining what biblical covenants are, we can look to surrounding cultures from the Ancient Near East to help understand the cultural context of the early Israelite covenants. We find that they reflect more closely the relationship between a king and their subjects than a god and their particular people group. We also discuss the different aspects of these covenants, namely their conditional or unconditional nature. We also examine the Abrahamic, Mosaic and Davidic covenants in closer detail.
