Two things we like in our sports at the Trans Sporter Room are beauty and speed, and in a perfect world our host Karleigh Webb always seeks BOTH! BEAUTY: Ed Fox and Phoebe Martin of the Union Omaha FC "Proud Owls" Last year Fox and Martin started the Proud Owls, the LGBTQ supporters group for the USL League One Union Omaha FC. They started the supporters' group to provide a safe space for LGBTQ and Ally fans of the 2021 USL League One champions. Last Week, as their state began hearings on anti-trans discrimination and protest were called, they went to the state capital to show support. They were their to give support and be there. To them it was an evolution of what they started their group. SPEED: Zach Herrin and Kevin Jennings Zach Herrin has been in pro motorsports since he was a 16-year-old on the pro motorcycling circuit, and had potential, but finding his truth as a gay man and his chosen profession was since as a bridge too far. Herrin left the racing saddle to attend to himself. Along the way, the only answers he could have? Yes, you are gay and yes, you are a racer! Herrin began his road back. Leading up to an opportunity to drive in an ARCA Menards Series car at Daytona this week thanks former driver and current ARCA Series team owner Andy Hillenburg For a sponsor Herrin turned to a group who doesn't like to lose. When it comes to fighting for LGBTQ rights, Lambda Legal bats close to a 1.000. Together, driver and sponsor face one of the greatest challenges in sports: 200 miles on the high banks at 200 miles-per-hour at Daytona! Current events are on the docket as Dale Earnhardt Jr. and co-host Mike Davis unpack the turbulent happenings of NASCAR's weekend in Texas on this week's episode of The Dale Jr. Download. Not only that, but they've brought in a guest who was very much a part of the turbulence, recent Bristol night race winner Chris Buescher.Dale and Chris have had some friendly banter over the past few weeks after Dale mistakenly referred to Chris as “Christopher” during a race broadcast. As the misstep reoccurred, Dale began to embrace the name change-up in an effort to catch his fellow commentators in the same spur-of-the-moment confusion. Chris caught wind of the joke via social media and took it in stride, even going as far as to change his profile name on Twitter and the driver name decal on his Roush Fenway Keselowski No. 17 car. Dale explains that he first grew to admire Chris when he bested then JR Motorsports driver Chase Elliott in the 2015 Xfinity Series season points standings. They discuss Chris leaving his hometown of Prosper, Texas at the age of 15 to move to North Carolina to pursue a career in motorsports. Chris credits his upbringing from his parents and knowing he was there to work and race.A huge part of Buescher's journey was a friendship he forged with Ken and David Ragan, which stemmed from a black flag incident during the Summer Shootout Legends car event at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Chris recalls getting in trouble for rough driving during the race and being sent to Ken's office, who was managing 600 Racing at the time. After the Shootout, Ken explained to Chris' family that if they were serious about racing, they needed to move out east. When they established that they were not in the place to do that at the time, Ken offered the spare bedroom in his house to Chris. Chris talks about getting involved in the Roush Racing development program thanks to help from the Ragans. His first step up the ladder was the ARCA Series, where he raced out of Midlothian, Illinois with the Roulo Brothers Racing outfit. He also discusses adapting to a stock car after transitioning out of Legends cars, and how he knocked the nose off his car on a start in one of his first races at Salem Speedway. The story of Chris making his Xfinity Series debut is a wild one, as he was tabbed last minute to fill in for Trevor Bayne in 2011, who went on medical leave. After forgetting to plug his phone in overnight, he was awakened by Gary Roulo who informed him “get your stuff, we're going to the airport”. In the car, Gary explained the situation, and soon Chris was at Richmond Raceway getting fitted to hop into the No. 16 car with no practice laps or simulator time. The interview also discusses Chris' time with Front Row Motorsports after winning the 2015 Xfinity Championship and his rain-shortened Cup victory at Pocono in 2016. Dale asks about the culture change at RFK since the arrival of Brad Keselowski. They also discuss the NextGen car's tire issues and what changes can be made to Texas Motor Speedway to help better the racing there. With only a few races left in the 2022 Cup schedule, Chris is optimistic about where the RFK Racing organization is heading, and he's looking forward to capitalizing on the momentum they've built in the past few weeks. Mr. Gale looks back at his early years and tells many stories looking back at the people in his life and the fun he had along with the way racing soapbox derby, go-carts & motorcycles before he ever drove a stock car. When Mr. Gale did strap into a Stock Car, he dominated the short track racing scene in his driving days throughout FL & AL Wining Track Titles at 5 Flags Speedway and Mobile. Mr. Gale changed the game in short track racing as a chassis tuner when he created Galeforce Suspension. Cale Gale was definitely a chip off the ole block to his father cutting his teeth at the track in Mobile AL winning races and track titles in multiple divisions. Gale is so proud of all his father's accomplishments and shares a few stories of his own about racing with his father. The younger Gale quickly rose from short track racing to the top 3 series in NASCAR winning in the Truck Series in 2012 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Cale was an active driver until 2017 when he turned in the steering wheel for a Racing Engineering career. But, is his driving career really over? Chris Carter has a Love & appreciation for the Gales that runs thicker than water and shares some memories as well. Carter along with working for the Gales has been a fixture in the short track scene from Alabama to the coast of NC. Carter has worked at Sunny South Raceway, Grand Bay Al; Deep South Speedway (dirt) Loxely Al and Montgomery Speedway, Montgomery Al. Mr. Gale had a very positive influence on many short trackers to help raise their level of competition and seen those young racers grow into who we see as top drivers today in the racing game with some making it all the way to the top three series in NASCAR. And we surprised Mr. Gale with a couple of call-ins.1:16 Grant Enfinger originally from Fairhope, Alabama checks in to congratulate Mr. Gale on his HoF Nomination and to thank him for his guidance during his short-track days along his journey to the Higher levels of stock car racing. Enfinger raced to 15 ARCA Series victories and 6 NASCAR Truck Series Victories Including the 2020 NEXTERA ENERGY RESOURCES 250 at Daytona International Speedway.1:32 Bubba Pollard from Senoia, GA Connects with the boys to share his thanks to Mr. Gale for his coaching and guidance along the way in becoming the most successful Super LM Driver in the Modern Era, plus the most well-known and respected Super LM Racer from coast to coast. It's been an admittedly frustrating season for Matt DiBenedetto and Wood Brothers Racing and he's here to break it down among other things. DiBenedetto explains how drivers understand it could worse; if there is an explanation for the struggles; utilizing simulator time; how the fan reaction has changed over the years; how his career has shaped him as a person and how he doesn't let it affect his love of racing; the influence of the Wood Brothers family; how hot the race cars are and the work that DiBenedetto puts in to be mentally tough; getting TV broadcast experience during an ARCA Series race, and understanding how to talk about racing on TV; why he and Ryan Ellis started a podcast and if DiBenedetto is getting out of it what he hoped. In today's episode, I have the pleasure of inviting Jesse Iwuji. Jesse, at a young age, Dallas, Texas native, and Nigerian-American, he was interested and driven in the sporting world. Being a Texan, football naturally took its course in his life during high school, where he played at Hebron High in Carrollton, TX. Through hard work and perseverance, he landed a full-ride scholarship to one of the nation's top universities, the US Naval Academy. There he played NCAA Division 1-A college football four years, graduated with a Bachelors of Science, and was commissioned as a Surface Warfare Officer in the US Navy. He is still an officer. He has been on two Arabian Gulf deployments totaling out to 15 months of deployment time on two different Naval Warships. Outside of the Navy, Jesse has always had a passion for Motorsports. In 2015 Jesse made history by becoming the first US Naval Officer and Naval Academy graduate to compete in NASCAR. 2015 was Jesse's first official stock car racing season and began it in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series at Irwindale Speedway. He transitioned toward the end of 2015 into the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West from late-model stock cars. Jesse competed in the 2016 season with Patriot Motorsports Group; he finished Top 10 in the overall points, standing as a Rookie. Upon season-ending, he won the 2016 NASCAR Diverse Driver Award given to a driver in NASCAR's top developmental series who has done most for sports diversity. With more competition and competitors in the series in 2017, Jesse competed in the entire NASCAR K&N Pro Series West season with Patriot Motorsports Group and finished Top 15 in points for his sophomore season in his NASCAR career. In May of 2017, Jesse transitioned from active duty service to the Naval reserves. At the end of 2017, Jesse became a 2-time winner of the NASCAR Diverse Driver award. 2018 marked the beginning of Jesse's move to larger tracks where he could get NASCAR Cup Series type track experience when he began racing the 1.5-2.66 mile Speedways & Super Speedways in the ARCA Series. Jesse finished 13th in points in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West for 2018. On Aug 26th, 2018, Jesse made history again by being the first current serving member of the US Navy to debut in the NASCAR Truck Series where he had a Top 25 finish and, moving into 2019, had multiple Top 20 finishes even on a smaller underfunded team competing against much higher budget teams. Jesse recently made his debut in the 2nd highest tier of NASCAR, the NASCAR Xfinity Series, and looks to continue the journey eventually into the NASCAR Cup Series. Outside of racing & the Navy, Jesse has also starred in various TV & Online shows distributed nationally, owns his own drag racing events company called The Red List Group, and holds a trucking business called JBJE Transportation.
