Conor Daly's 2024 racing season has officially come to a close as he was once again in NASCAR Truck competition at Homestead Miami Speedway this past weekend. He joins co-host Chase Holden to discuss why he struggled behind the wheel with limited practice and how difficult the Truck is to adapt to in comparison to its NASCAR Xfinity counterparts. They also chat about Pato O'Ward's massive, warm welcoming at the Formula One Mexico Grand Prix and how the huge showing at his personal appearance is a great thing for the future of IndyCar. Also, they ponder if this huge display of support for the IndyCar superstar will expedite the process of getting the series back to Mexico for a championship points race. The return of the People's Podium segment welcomes past guest Kevin Beck to the table to give his thoughts on the 2024 IndyCar season. Kevin makes the point that IndyCar had a great window of opportunity to find new viewership during the Formula One summer break this year, as the series put on some compelling races after the Indianapolis 500. The guys also discuss Pato O'Ward's fan support from Mexico and how it can help elevate a sport similarily to Ayrton Senna in Formula One during the mid to late 1980s and Caitlyn Clark currently in the WNBA. Kevin argues that IndyCar needs to study what the WNBA is doing to market Clark's popularity and how the series is capitalizing on the player's stardom to help elevate its overall presence. Finally, the guys discuss what an IndyCar in Mexico could mean for the series and how it will be viewed on an international scale.

The guys also discuss the recent IndyCar test at Iowa Speedway as well as the Indianapolis Road Course test for 2025's IndyNXT roster. Conor spent the past weekend watching racing and was disappointed with the outcome of the Formula One United States Grand Prix. He weighs in on the differences between IndyCar and Formula One track limits and how the race may have played out differently if the stewards didn't have to get involved. Hailie Deegan joins the show to discuss her highly publicized transition from the NASCAR world to the IndyNXT paddock. Hailie explains that after her last NASCAR Xfinity event, she began to ponder entering the open wheel world and went to the IndyCar event at Iowa Speedway to take in the series firsthand. She compares the amount of track time she's had so far in preparing for her first IndyNXT start to her past four seasons spent in NASCAR, which reveals a major challenge for developing racers in the stock car world. Conor and Hailie discuss the use of iRacing in helping to ease the growing pains that come with switching types of race cars, as well as the affordability of racing in IndyNXT versus a NASCAR Truck. 21+ and present in North Carolina. Dale Earnhardt Jr. enjoys a conversation with his business partner in FilterTime and former NASCAR competitor Blake Koch where he learns more about Blake's journey rising the ranks as a driver to his never-quit mentality starting a business.  In modern motorsports, becoming a successful racecar driver takes drive, dedication, and perseverance. These qualities are also present in successful business owners, which is something Dale Jr. took note of when Blake first approached him about getting involved with FilterTime. Dale recognized Blake's hustle when he was assisting Matt Kaulig with starting Kaulig Racing, for which he raced with during the 2016/17 NASCAR Xfinity seasons. And while Blake was let go for Ryan Truex before the 2018 season, his character as a hard worker who was not afraid to take on challenges was demonstrated.  Blake found his way to the big leagues of NASCAR with limited stock car experience. He explains that after racing motocross most of his life, he realized he wasn't going to be able to become a professional and was ready to hang up the helmet. His stepfather called him about trying out a FASCAR Pro Truck in 2007, which got him into the world of short track racing. When sponsorship became difficult to secure for late model rides, Blake shifted his focus to the ARCA West Series (which was then the NASCAR Camping World West) thanks to a break from Richard Childress Racing and the Golden Gate Racing Team outfit. With a full season under his belt, Blake traveled out east and began competing in NASCAR Xfinity events for various teams before linking up with Matt Kaulig at TriStar Motorsports. When Matt expressed he was determined to begin winning, Blake set out to find out how much money it would take to become a winning team. Once the answers became clear, Matt decided to start Kaulig Racing on his own with Blake in the driver's seat. His 7th place points effort in 2016 would be his finest achievement in racing, but when the window closed suddenly he realized he needed something more stable for his growing family. After brainstorming business ideas, he came up with the concept of a subscription-based home air filter service, and soon FilterTime was born.

The UK's latest renewable auction has given a significant boost to the offshore wind sector. With a record budget of 1. 5 billion pounds, the auction awarded contracts to 131 wind, solar, and tidal projects, capable of generating almost 10 gigawatts of capacity. Notable winners include Orsted's Hornsea 4 project in Iberdrola's East Anglia two, and three projects. However, analysts note that this still falls short of the capacity needed to meet the country's target of 60 gigawatts of offshore wind by 2030. The UK has reached a significant milestone in wind power generation capacity. The country has surpassed the 30 gigawatt mark of combined offshore and onshore wind installations. This milestone was achieved with the commissioning of SSE Renewable's 443 megawatt Viking Wind Farm. in Shetland this past June. According to Renewable UK, the UK's current wind capacity can meet the annual power demand of over 26 million homes and reduce carbon emissions by more than 35 million tons per year. This project, located about 30 kilometers south of Trollberg, was estimated to generate 2. 7 terawatt hours of fossil free electricity annually. Fattenfall cited the lack of a reasonable connection point to the national grid offshore as a key factor in this decision. U. Dale Earnhardt Jr. welcomes longtime NASCAR competitors Elliott and Hermie Sadler to the studio on this episode of the Dale Jr. Download. After growing up in Emporia, Virginia, the accomplished brother duo picked up their father's interest in racing and entered into the go-kart ranks. They explain that their father owned dirt cars that competed on the short tracks of Virginia and North Carolina and was maintained in their family owned Chevy dealership. Hermie would win a World Karting Association national championship for dirt karts in 1988 and would graduate to late model stock cars with the support of his parents. Hermie explains that after initially struggling, his father tried to convince him to give up his racing career in pursuit or something new. In what was supposed to be one last attempt behind the wheel, Hermie would win his first ever late model race in Manassas, inspiring him to continue onward. When Hermie graduated into the NASCAR Busch Series and found early success by winning his first race and the Rookie of the Year title in 1993, Elliott followed him up the racing ladder, occupying the now vacant family late model seat. Elliott would keep the Sadler name in victory lane by winning the 1995 track championship at South Boston before making a splash in the NASCAR Busch ranks himself. Elliott tells the story of getting a call from the Wood Brothers to drive the famed 21 NASCAR Cup ride and how he scored an emotional victory for the team at Bristol. Meanwhile, Hermie struggled on his path through NASCAR and would eventually settle into the broadcast booth where he became one of the most known on-air personalities in the sport. Elliott takes listeners through his journey from Yates Racing to Evernham Motorsports before moving back to the NASCAR Xfinity ranks, where he'd finish up his career at JR Motorsports.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. sits down with longtime NASCAR competitor Jeff Green to learn more about how he rose from the short tracks of the Midwest to having one of the most dominant seasons in the NASCAR Xfinity Series history. After growing up in the footsteps of two racing brothers, David and Mark, also of NASCAR fame, Jeff ventured down a path that landed him at Dale Earnhardt Inc. in 1995.  When he took a call from the Intimidator himself, DEI was at an interesting point in its history, where Dale Sr. was looking to retire from part-time NASCAR Busch Series racing and put someone in the car full-time. Jeff and the No. 3 team had moments of brilliance and strong runs, but he felt it was still “Dale Sr.'s team” and he decided to try out a different opportunity.Jeff found victory lane for the first time in his NASCAR Xfinity career with Diamond Ridge Motorsports at Las Vegas in 1997. The team was excited about Jeff's success and rushed him into the Cup Series, which Jeff explains was a difficult transition to make, and before long the team shut down. His glory years in the Xfinity Series came from 1999 to 2001 when he had two runner-up points efforts and a dominant 2000 championship run, where he won by over 600 points. The success brought an opportunity with Richard Childress Racing and Jeff, feeling like he was in the prime of his career, jumped at the chance to drive for a premier racing team. But when a run-in with his teammate Kevin Harvick ultimately got him fired, Jeff began a journey of moving from team to team, looking for stability. Along the way, he spent time back at DEI as well as at Richard Petty Motorsports driving the famed 43 before retiring from driving in 2021.Dale and Jeff reflect on their years spent racing each other in the Xfinity ranks, Dale's first memories of Jeff at DEI, late model racing trips, and Jeff's current day-to-day activities.

Augustin Canapino and the Argentinian fanbase are out of order after threatening Theo Pourchaire.  When the drivers are wishing and hoping to go back to Belle Isle, the track is bad.   NASCAR Cup and Trucks were at Gateway while the XFinity drivers were at Portland for road course action.  Austin Cindric was the beneficiary of issues for both Christopher Bell and teammate Ryan Blaney, taking his first win since winning the 2022 Daytona 500.  This was not a great day for the points contenders in general, but there's still plenty of races left.  Stewart-Haas Racing will cease to exist at the end of 2024, after Tony and Gene made that announcement to the team after the 600.  Phil and Josh give their thoughts at the end of this organization along with where some of the key people will go.  With Snoreoma upcoming, that will be Faux last telecast of 2024.  Other than Harvick and Mike Joy, is there anything redeeming?  Shane Van Gisbergen became a NASCAR XFinity winner at Portland, passing dominant presence Justin Allgaier late in the race.  All three Kaulig cars finished in the top 10, and SVG locks himself into the playoffs.  Another person who is locked into the playoffs is Corey Heim after a fourth win of the Truck Series regular season.  Outside of Heim, Ty Majeski, Christian Eckes and Nick Sanchez stand as the only drivers that might have a chance at Phoenix.  The GSP Roundup will recap IMSA at Detroit, NHRA at Epping, MotoGP/Moto2 at Mugello along with major rider news and WRC Rally Italy before previewing Indy NXT at Road America.  Phil and Josh make their picks and discuss the F1 Canadian Grand Prix, NASCAR Cup and XFinity at Snoreoma and IndyCar at Road America.  Josh lets us know his exploits in iRacing on his Sim Segment prior to show close.

Denny Hamlin and Jared Allen break down all the action from Richmond, including the race's hottest topic – the final restart. Chandler Smith wins the NASCAR Xfinity race but Joey Gase & Dawson Cram steal the show. Why couldn't Denny go golfing on Saturday (12:30)? Did NASCAR make the right call with wet-weather tires and non-competitive cautions (16:00)? The caution for Kyle Busch hitting the wall screwed up some teams' race strategy (25:50). It was nearly impossible to pass at the end of the race, and Denny was prepared for a third-place finish (34:00). A last-second caution gave Denny life and his pit crew crushed the money stop (41:00). Kyle Larson wrecked and came out with a better finishing position (44:50). Finally, did Denny jump the restart (47:20)? To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices. Dale Earnhardt Jr. reconnects with a figure from his past when he sits down with Team Penske NASCAR team manager Jefferson Hodges. After growing up admiring his Uncle Dale Lemonds' racing career, Jefferson found his way into the racing world through Rick Townsend's late model stock outfit in the Richmond, Virginia area. From there, he'd make his way onto the NASCAR Cup scene thanks to Tommy Baldwin, who was working for Junie Donlavey Racing at the time. When the Donlavey team began to slow, Jefferson returned to Townsend and found his footing as a team leader and crew chief.  Jefferson would play an integral role in the progression of JR Motorsports from a late model stock team to one of the leading organizations in the NASCAR Xfinity roster. Jefferson had found success in the late model ranks with driver Mark McFarland, and after taking home a NASCAR Whelen All-American Championship, the two were destined for Charlotte. Through a driver-switch up, the two found themselves at JR Motorsports, and when success in late models led to the possibility of expanding into NASCAR's secondary division, the number-88 Xfinity ride was born.  Fan Duel Disclaimer: Availability subject to regulatory approval. 21+ and present in NC. I'm Stacey Simms and these are the top diabetes stories and headlines happening now XX In the news is brought to you by Edgepark simplify your diabetes journey with Edgepark XX The next step in GLP-1 research is focusing on oral medications. new study looking at two different versions danuglipron dag-NEW-la-pron and orforglipron ah-for-GLOO-pron The primary examined outcome consisted of how different the absolute changes in the percentage of glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) from baseline were between the treatment and control groups. Secondary outcomes included endpoint differences in body weight, fasting plasma glucose (FPG), systolic and diastolic blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), and heart rate between the treatment and control groups when absolute changes from baseline values were measured. The preliminary findings indicated that the orally administered small molecule GLP-1RAs danuglipron twice daily from Pfizer and orforglipron once a day from Lilly were effective in weight reduction and glycemic control in individuals with type 1 diabetes, obesity, or both. As compared to the controls, the novel small molecule GLP-1RAs not only resulted in a significant lowering of HbA1c levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus but in patients with obesity and type 2 diabetes, danuglipron and orforglipron also brought about significant weight reduction. While the safety profiles indicated that the orally administered danuglipron and orforglipron did not increase the odds of serious adverse reactions or hypoglycemic events, the odds of adverse gastrointestinal events such as diarrhea, nausea, constipation, and vomiting were higher. These adverse gastrointestinal events were also linked to higher odds of treatment discontinuation. Further, longitudinal studies are required to understand these treatment options' long-term efficacy, tolerability, and safety. https://www.news-medical.net/news/20231017/Oral-diabetes-and-obesity-meds-danuglipron-and-orforglipron-show-promise-but-have-gastrointestinal-drawbacks.aspx XX More news about Tzield to slow type 1 progression in newly diagnosed children and adolescents. Data from the Phase III PROTECT clinical trial, presented at the 2023 Annual ISPAD Conference, showed that superior beta cell preservation was observed compared to placebo. On average, patients administered with TZIELD required numerically fewer insulin units and had numerically higher time in range, compared to those on placebo. HbA1c reductions and the overall rates of clinically important hypoglycemic events were similar among both study groups. TZIELD is the first and only disease modifying therapy in type 1 diabetes An observational extension study following participants for a further 42 months is ongoing. Release of the PROTECT trial data follows the company's acquisition of Provention Bio (a Sanofi Company) in April 2023 and therefore represents a key milestone for Sanofi. https://www.europeanpharmaceuticalreview.com/news/187735/sanofi-treatment-could-slow-type-1-diabetes-progression/ XX Lots of speculation about what the growing popularity of new diabetes drugs will do to the device market. Abbott says they're doing just fine.. and that the treatments could end up boosting sales of the medical device maker. Shares have dropped with concerns that GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic and Mounjaro could hurt CGM sales. Abbott says their sales are actually up this year. Now, grain of salt, because this is press release info.. but it's worth noting that the device market is very important to people who use pump systems of course. Most diabetes device analysts do seem to agree with Abbott here. https://www.reuters.com/business/healthcare-pharmaceuticals/abbott-beats-profit-estimates-strong-sales-devices-diagnostics-2023-10-18/XX -- XX Could a 10-second smartphone voice recording diagnose type 2? This is something else.. biotech firm Klick Labs testing 267 people who had already been diagnosed as being either non-diabetic (192 people) or type 2 diabetic (75 people). Each person was asked to record a specific spoken phrase on their own smartphone via an app, up to six times a day for two weeks. Depending on the speed at which each individual spoke, those recordings were six to 10 seconds long. When 14 acoustic features of the resulting 18,465 recordings were analyzed, it was found that several of those features – such as pitch and intensity – differed in a consistent manner between the diabetic and non-diabetic participants. Although these differences couldn't be detected by the human ear, they could be picked up by signal processing software. This finding suggests that developing type 2 diabetes causes subtle changes in a person's voice. With that theory in mind, the scientists created an AI-based program that analyzes voice recordings along with patient information such as age, sex, height and weight. When tested on the volunteers, that program proved to be 89% accurate at identifying type 2 diabetic women and 86% accurate at spotting diabetic men. Those numbers should improve as the technology is refined. For reference, the team found that traditional fasting blood glucose tests were 85% accurate for both sexes, while glycated hemoglobin and oral glucose tolerance tests were 91% and 92% accurate, respectively. https://newatlas.com/medical/10-second-voice-test-type-2-diabetes/ XX Ultrasound may prove a new treatment for type 2 diabetes.. GE HealthCare Technologies is teaming up with Novo Nordisk on peripheral focused ultrasound, a new technology with potential to regulate metabolic function–without drugs, GE HealthCare said in a release. Early-stage clinical research suggests this type of ultrasound can affect diabetes patients' glucose metabolism by stimulating nerve pathways, the company said. https://www.marketwatch.com/story/ge-healthcare-teams-up-with-novo-nordisk-to-treat-diabetes-without-drugs-7b679c3e XX New research on diet and type 1 diabetes.. looking at plant based & moderate carb diets. I'll link up the full results but the upshot here is that portion control, moderate carb, and vegan all worked very well – when you've got a dietitian helping you make individual choices. The Vegan diet in particular is interesting, but it was not low carb – some people actually ate more carbs than usual – up to 300 a day – but the fat levels were very low. This group's insulin sensitivity went was up, and they lost on average 11 pounds. A1C decrease was about the same in all the groups. “It's important to have different types of diets that fit with different individuals https://diatribe.org/type-1-diabetes-new-studies-vegan-and-moderate-carbohydrate-diets-type-1-diabetes XX Improving health insurance coverage is not enough to address existing racial and ethnic disparities in glycemic control among US adults with diabetes. This was a large study by researchers at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. A cross-sectional analysis of more than 4000 US adults with elevated HbA1c, results of the study suggest Hispanic or Latino and non-Hispanic Black individuals were more likely to have poor glycemic control relative to their non-Hispanic White counterparts despite access to care, with investigators noting social, health care, and behavioral or health factors did little to attenuate these apparent disparities. “Future studies should apply causal frameworks to evaluate the role of other structural barriers contributing to the high burden of poor control among insured Hispanic or Latino and non-Hispanic Black individuals to develop effective interventions,” investigators concluded.1 https://www.hcplive.com/view/racial-disparities-in-diabetes-management-go-beyond-insurance-status-study-finds XX Commercial – Edgepark XX A scientist who helped discover insulin a century ago has been honoured with a memorial in Aberdeen. John JR Macleod was awarded the Nobel prize for his part in the ground-breaking project – one of the most significant advancements in medical science. However, the physiologist's achievements were largely unknown. Now he has been celebrated in his home city with the unveiling of a new life-sized bronze sculpture. https://news.stv.tv/north/aberdeen-memorial-for-scientist-john-jr-macleod-who-co-discovered-insulin-unveiled-at-duthie-park XX If you watch the Food Network's Halloween Cookie Challenge – you can root for the diabetes mom.
