Gegenwärtig sind 193 Staaten Mitglieder der Vereinten Nationen. Allein in der Landeshauptstadt Schwerin leben Menschen aus mehr als 100 verschiedenen Herkunftsländern. Die Idee: Sprachen und damit auch die vielfältigen Kulturen der Menschen, die in Schwerin leben sollten einmal hörbar werden. Gesprochen von ihnen selbst. Mit 10 Sprachen, 10 Texten an 10 Orten ging es 2017 mit der neuen Veranstaltung los. Einige Jahre später waren es 23 Sprachen, in denen an einem Tag an vielen Orten der Stadt vorgelesen wurde. Als „Lesen International“ ist die Begegnung mit Sprache und Kultur auch 2025 wieder ein Teil der Schweriner Literatur-Tage. Mit dabei sind Zehra Dönmez und René Brown. Zehras Familie stammt aus der Türkei, René kommt aus Ecuador. Beide leben und arbeiten seit einigen Jahre in Schwerin und engagieren sich ehrenamtlich im Verein ‚Miteinander-Ma'an“. „Am 12. Oktober 2025 sind wir im ‚Internationalen Haus Schwerin‘“ dabei., sagt Renè Brown. Er gehört zu dem Team der Organisatoren „An diesem Tag wird in zehn Sprachen vorgelesen.
