Join us for a conversation with Brock Pollock and Christopher Breedlove, both from the Replant the Forest Festival [https://www.replanttheforest.org/] who endeavor to create artistic cultural spaces for environmental action. We should be alarmed and concerned that despite what we know about the urgent need to protect forests globally, the world's forests continue to be destroyed by deforestation, conventional agriculture, logging, and wildfires as well as urban fires as recently experienced here on Tongvalands. According to The Forest Declaration Assessment 2024, 15.7 million acres of forest were lost in 2023, which is roughly equivalent to an area the size of Ireland. In 2024, 44.2 million acres of Brazil's Amazon rainforest burned and in 2023, the world lost 9.1 million acres of primary tropical forest. Even though certain gains have been made in protecting forests, we are far behind the threshold needed to halt global deforestation. These statistics while abstract serve as urgent reminders that the time to act on behalf of Mother Earth is: now. Great diligence and committed effort is required of all of us. Responsibility for the Earth, preserving and restoring the world's forests and ecosystems is up to us. It cannot be deferred or passed on to someone else. Enter Replant the Forest Festival. It was born of a wish to engage like-hearted communities in the healing of Earth, by combining art, music, and the planting of Trees for ecosystem restoration. By joining in Replant the Forest Festival's efforts to restore degraded lands, plant trees in underserved communities, and educate the public about ecosystems and regenerative practices, we can aspire to leave a legacy of care, thriving and abundance for future generations of all life. What Does Your Church NEED? - HCP 240On this podcast Larry and Drew ask the question - What does your church need? As pastors and church leaders we need to continually be aware of the needs of our church family. Not unlike when you go to the doctor and they run tests to establish a baseline for your health, your church can also ask some questions that can help you get a good understanding of what things may be going well and what areas of need there may be. Larry and Drew discuss 6 areas of consideration from Mark Clifton and his podcast Revitalize and Replant. How can our church begin the process to help other churches replant or revitalize? How do we balance the attrition of older, seasoned saints with gaining newer, spiritually immature believers? What are the next steps after a successful initial revitalization process?

In this special edition of Revitalize and Replant, Mark Clifton addresses the upcoming vote on the Law Amendment at the SBC Annual Meeting in Indianapolis this June. Here are some highlights: The Law Amendment (which states that a church cannot be in friendly cooperation if they have any female staff member with the title of pastor – children's pastor, worship pastor, etc.) The amendment passed last year in New Orleans, but it must pass again this year in Indianapolis in order to become a part of the SBC constitution. There are good folks on both sides of this debate. We must treat one another with grace and love, even when we disagree. A brief history of the Baptist Faith & Message and how we arrived at this point. An balanced analysis of what might happen if the amendment does – and does not – pass. As we close out the year on Revitalize and Replant, we want to encourage you to seek the Lord in the work of revitalization. Christ will build His church. Your identity is in Christ, not in your ministry. We have confident hope in Christ Jesus. The Lord's grace is sufficient for you in ministry. Only eternity will reveal the fruit of your labor. His strength is perfect, even when we feel like we have no strength. The church that you lead is not the church that will be there for all eternity.

When the Castle Fire started burning in August of 2020, it ripped through Sequoia National Park, burning for months and with an intensity that has become increasingly normal during wildfire season. Just one year later, the KNP Complex fire devastated this same region. Together, these two massive fires burned grove after grove of giant sequoias, thousands of the largest trees on earth. Trees found only in California. Sequoias are adapted to fire, but decades of fire suppression and hotter, drier conditions from human-caused climate change have led to infernos that even these magnificent trees can't weather. Since 2020, up to one fifth of the state's sequoias have died from severe fire. Sometimes, the cones that hold their seeds have been incinerated too. Some scientists are worried there will be no sequoias in Sequoia National Park in the future. Now, national park scientists are proposing a plan to harvest surviving sequoia seeds, nurture them into seedlings in a protected environment, and then replant them in the wilderness. But critics say that proposal goes against the very definition of wilderness. At the heart of this debate are some big questions: What is natural? And how much should humans intervene? KALW reporter Marissa Ortega-Welch explores both sides of the issue while hiking out to see the damage done to a sequoia grove in the middle of a wilderness area in the national parks. This story was brought to us by KALW Public Radio, and made possible with support from California Humanities, a non-profit partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

In Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park, park managers are considering replanting sequoias in wilderness to restore the groves after severe fires they say humans caused. But some environmentalists say this goes against the very definition of wilderness. The debate raises questions about how we think about wilderness in a changing planet.
