SPONSORED BY PLURALSIGHTEarly in the days of high-traffic web pages and apps, any engineer operating the infrastructure would have a server room where one or more machines served that app to the world. They named their servers lovingly, took pictures, and watched them grow. The servers were pets. But since the rise of public cloud and infrastructure as code, servers have become cattle—you have as many as you need at any given time and don't feel personally attached to any given one. And as more and more organizations find their way to the cloud, more and more engineers need to figure out how to herd cattle instead of feed pets. Show notesGartner forecasts that around $500 billion will be spent worldwide on end user cloud computing during 2022. Firment says that's only 25% of IT budgets today, but he expects it to grow to 65% by 2025.Don't doubt the power of your people. Gartner estimates that 50% of all cloud IT migration projects are delayed up to two years simply because of the lack of skills.Pluralsight just published its State of the Cloud report. 75% of of all leaders want to build new products and services in the cloud, but only 8% of the technologists have the experience to actually work with cloud related tools. Today we're highlighting a Great Question badge winner—a question with a score of 100 or more—awarded to Logan Besecker for their question: How do you cache an image in JavaScript?Want to start earning your cloud certificates? Great Question: Uncomfortable With the Comforter - Ken Wetmore I understand God is found in the Trinity as Father, Son, and Spirit. However, it seems that most Christians – and most churches – are only comfortable talking about and seeking an experience with the Father and Son. Why does it seem like there is hesitancy to fully experience the Spirit when Jesus told his followers that the Spirit would be our closest connection to God? Are you a diminisher or a multiplier? Do you bring all the answers to the table, or do you help others solve problems? Do you believe you are the best voice in the room? Our guest learned the hard way, that he was a diminisher. He would take a great idea from his staff, acknowledge it, and then suggest how to make it better. After all, that is what great leaders do; make them better. Bob Tiede is prolific author, blogger, and trainer on how to develop leaders through questions. His book, Leading with Questions has been published in 190+ nations around the world. He has spoken with and met some of the greatest minds around this subject and he shares these stories twice a week on his free subscriber list. He calls himself a charter member of TA…Tellers Anonymous. And most of us are. We love talking about ourselves and jumping in the arena to help. But we forget the meaningful excavation that can occur with a genuine curiosity in another. through a series of questions. The excavation can produce a rich vein of gold but not if we are filling the hole we were digging with our dirt. One of the key takeaways from our conversation was the scorecard for a great leader. “Good leaders count their followers”, said Bob. “Great leaders measure the leaders they have developed.” Bob began this journey in a bookstore when he picked up Leading with Questions: How Leaders Find the Right Solutions by Knowing What to Ask by Michael J. Marquardt. It was a 2x4 over his head. He was suddenly self-aware. And to seek restitution he turned the book into a training class which was successful. And then he turned it into his first book. In my practice, we realize that most people start talking after getting an answer to a question. They have learned everything there is to know. But then they miss the answer behind the question. The answer they will never receive. The knowledge never gained. The wisdom never achieved. Listen to a man with a teller addiction tell his stories. This is not your average ted-talk version of The Great Conversation. You will need some time. But it is worth it. Enjoy.

Great Question: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow - Ken Wetmore I hear questions all the time about the great difference between the angry “Old Testament God” and the loving “New Testament God.” So much of the Bible is poetic, metaphoric, and prophetic. If it was written by people within a variety of ancient cultures without benefit of the scientific and technological understandings of today, how can we understand these inconsistencies? How literally should we take Scripture?” Our #WholeLifeReflection for this week asked: What do you do when the Bible conflicts with evidence/science? Do you believe the Bible is right and we aren't understanding the evidence/science correctly, or do you believe that the Bible is wrong, or do you have another way of looking at it? What stood out to you this week?  Something we said, didn't, or could have said in more detail? Great Question: Sheep In Other Folds? - Ken Wetmore We begin our annual "Great Question!" series. This week, Pastor Ken will address the following question from the WLC congregation: "If all of humanity is the family of God and Jesus tells us that he has “sheep in other folds,” does that mean people of other faiths outside of Christianity could have a relationship with God and be part of God's kingdom?” Our #WholeLifeReflection for this week asked: How does what you believe on this topic impact your view of God's character? Asking great questions gets you a triple win. The first being it creates an enjoyable experience for the other side. When people share information only they know (self-disclosing information), the pleasure center of their brain lights up. The second win is that you also become more likable. As people answer great questions, talking more while you talk less, the more they associate you with feeling great. The third win is that it allows you to become unique in the mind of the buyer. As they begin sharing, you are going to learn their priorities in their words. Being able to talk about what you do in the context of the other person's goals and priorities is way more effective. When at all possible, avoid going first. If you have to, make your intro brief and shift quickly to asking the other person about their goals. People are dying to share their perspective, give that opportunity to them. You're going to win the meeting if the other person talks more than you do. Avoid showing up with a big and clunky Powerpoint, focusing on you. Get to the other person as quickly as possible and offer ways to be helpful.     Mentioned in this Episode: “Disclosing information about the self is intrinsically rewarding” - research article by Diana I. In the Gospel accounts of the life of Jesus, we often see people responding to what Jesus has claimed about who he is. John the Baptist asks Jesus: “Are you the one?” This sermon explores why that question is so important, and what Jesus's answer is. We will see: 1) John's condition; 2) John's question; 3) Jesus' credentials; and 4) Jesus' challenge. This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on September 7, 2014. Series: Matthew 11 - The One Who Gives You Rest. Scripture: Matthew 11:1-6. Today's podcast is brought to you by Gospel in Life, the site for all sermons, books, study guides and resources from Timothy Keller and Redeemer Presbyterian Church.
