On Versions, Queralt and Smith's four tracks have been reimagined by Nandele, Flug 8, GLOK (Steve's RIDE bandmate Andy Bell) and Nina Walsh, kindred spirits and treasured members of the extended Bytes/Ransom Note family. And so I walk along the beach, turning my back on a world that's stopped making sense, and the feeling that maybe sense is the first thing to go; before our civilisation falls, it will stumble through a long delirium, like an old man with Alzheimer's, before it finally grinds to a halt … I'm trying to turn my back on all that, before me the great unknown, the poetry of the magnificent blue distance … to gaze out at the blue and open myself up to that which is beyond us, to let the blue beyond wash all that away like pebbles in its foam … Bytes is proud to announce Sun Moon Town Versions, a companion piece to last year's EP, on which Steve Queralt, bass player of pioneering shoegazers RIDE, joined forces with the writer and film-maker MIchael Smith for a stunning four-track EP featuring Steve's music and Michael's spoken-word musings. On Versions, the four tracks have been reimagined by Nandele, Flug 8, GLOK (Steve's RIDE bandmate Andy Bell) and Nina Walsh, kindred spirits and treasured members of the extended Bytes/Ransom Note family. Premiering here is the GLOK remix, continuing Andy's hot streak under his electronic alter-ego, which has seen him deliver stunning remixes for Dot Allison, Maps and A Place to Bury Strangers. For his rework of ‘Chaldean Oracle', Andy eschews Michael's vocal almost entirely, transforming the track into a Detroit dub-techno monster that has echoes of Bandulu and Carl Craig in its shimmering melodies, eerie distortion and pounding drums. As well as these four new remixes, due to popular demand the release also features instrumental versions of the original tracks, with fans keen to hear Steve's exceptional electronic soundscapes in isolation. It's out on July 21, available digitally and a limited edition cassette, only available from Bytes Bandcamp. Makarov was already in his 16 age amazed of electronic music and artists such as Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson, CJ Bolland, Bandulu, The Advent, Afrika Bambaataa & The Soul Sonic Force... One year later he started practicing on his first turntables and in a very short period of time, he found his own technique of mixing, which was heavily influenced by early Electro Funk, Hip-Hop music & Turntablism. That's why his mixing style also consists of scratching and many more tricks and techniques with turntables. His mixing style was also a very unorthodox style in that time in the Czech Republic. Because of that, Makarov came into the attention of many party people and promoters. Thanks to his diligence and hard effort he gave out, he soon performed in some of the biggest events in the Czech Republic like Summer Of Love Festival, Apokalypsa, Citadela & Technomasters, as well as radio and television shows. Since 2011, he started producing his own music along with DJ Steen, based on a structure of a deep, massive bassline and strong sounds. Their first releases were signed on labels such as Naked Lunch, Mastertraxx & Focus Records. Supported and played by artists like Dave Clarke, Mike Humphries, Joey Beltram, Slam and many more... In October 2012, Cisco Ferreira aka The Advent discovered his talent and decided to give him an opportunity to release his tracks on his own label Kombination Research along with his best friend - DJ Steen. In this time Makarov has innovated his own vision of Techno and every day he continues to raise the style to a whole new level. In 2016 he is releasing album. BB36. The Milquetoast by Simon Saint-Simon for Radio1000bcDesigned and composed by Simon Saint-SimonSounds:The honest truth this time? You want gleam in the gloam? My child I am old and no less difficult than I was as a youth. If you must know I was cleaning up the old lighthouse at Milson’s point, bequeathed to me by the Macquarie family before the second world war (if you didnt know). I found myself one evening in the bulb of said house. There is a rudimentary office in an ingress to the side of the spinning torch, which gives the helmet of the building it's peculiar shape. That night i was picking through the old letters, records and tapes i had stored up there and I was overcome (as much as an autistic little serpent may be) by a crushing sense of both nostalgia and the undone. The achingly beautiful emptiness of this malaise led me to abort the glans of the tower and pace the circular track of the room, in desperate absolution, and then, at its height, it pinned me to the leaded pericarp of the inverted globe itself. The light swung by again and again like the eye of a mentally disabled cyclops trying to peer into my heart or butthole (dependent on the gain of my weep), yet lacking the concentration to get beyond my own carapace. So stuck, surface layer to surface layer, like warm child skin on the burning hot leatherette of mother's old DAF, I stayed, staring out beyond the harbour and the headland into the bright gloom of the warm, depthless Pacific...1 Gigi Masin - The Word Love2 Fennesz - Glass Ceiling3 Population One - Musical promises4 Clark - Strength Through Fragility5 Black Light Smoke - Firefly6 Arca - Zen7 Caribou - Mars (Head High’s Core Remix)8 Paul Johnson - Give Me Ecstasy9 Steve Poindexter - Computer Madness10 Hieroglyphic Being - How Wet Is Yr Box11 Vereker - Flesh and Blood12 Aleister Crowley - The Poet13 KMFH - Dr. Crunch14 Tirzah - I’m Not Dancing14 Luke Abbott - White Box15 Lee Gamble - Jove Layup16 Falty DL - Dos Gardenias17 Etienne Jaunet - Metallik Cages (Acid Arab Remix)18 Mykki Blanco - For the Homies19 The Stooges - TV Eye20 Ornette Coleman - Science Fiction21 Ornette Coleman - Times Square22 The Ecstasy Of Saint Theresa - Surfing On Steam (Band du Lunar mix by Bandulu)23 Sanctified - Rick Ross, Kanye West and Big Sean (Brenmar remix)24 Michel Cleis & Klement Bonelli Feat. Space DJz (UK) - NightVision Techno PODCAST 41 Pt. 2 Bio: Real name / Space Djz Moniker(s) / Ben Long & Jamie Bissmire Ever since the pair's formation in the early 1900's their unerring ability to fuse raucous techno with their life long love of Hip Hop, has set them aside from there peers. In the present day, an abundance of UK techno producer's have emerged, none would deny The Space Djz are true innovators. In 1995 the duo released their debut Ep Space DJz on the legendary and now defunked Infonet imprint, quickly followed up by an outing on the Belgium label Reload These two projects put them on the techno map but the real turning point arrived in early 1996 on Infonet with the release of the ..Return to earth', Ep, containing the techno anthems ..Side on', and ..Rock the house'.Both trakz would blow up to be huge and be re-released via Frankfurt based Ongaku .The combined output of both releases was over 10,000 copies and along side Dave Clarks Red 1 these were two of the biggest tunez of the year and are still much sought after and played to this day. The Djz became prize catches for major playerz Nova Mute and Soma contributing several more classic releases, culminating in 1999's critically acclaimed album ..On Patrol`. The album expressed Ben and Jamie's roots perfectly, combining their now infamous hip hop influences with their unique brand of analog techno and chaotic electronic soundscapes. Later that year The Space Djz delivered a trak that was to become one of their biggest hitz to date AK 47 a trak that had originally been heard on a Nova Mute Compilaton was reworked and served to capture the period's riotus spirit of techno. Listening to that record, one would imagine was like being attacked with a chainsaw buy an electronic chicken, simply brutal. It was released as a double pack on Ben Long's highly regarded Potential Recordingz and featured remixes by many of techno's biggest namez including Umek, The Advent, Gaetano Parisio, Oliver Ho, Inigo Kennedy, Chris McCormack. During 2001 Ben and Jamie also able to concentrate on their solo projects working with labels such as Consumer Recreation, CLR, Primate, PrimeEvil, Tortured, Advanced, Eukatech, Speilzeug, and the running of their own labelz Potential Recordingz, Ergonomix, ReRub , 50hz, Ground, Foundation and Target. Jamie also released a Bandulu album Redemption with Music Man. 2002 saw the welcome return of The Space Djz on Blly Nasty's Tortured imprint with the Faces of Pain double pack, their first release together in almost two years, and a double mix Cd was released on Primal Rythms entitled The Last Djz on Earth. They were back and they were better then ever. During this time, and indeed long before, The Space Djz have been renowned the world over for their breathtaking skillz behind the deckz. Whether working as a team or individually, Ben and Jamie consistently deliver astounding performances .. Welcome to the DJ Tomas Early Mix series, a digitized archive of early DJ mixes recorded between 1994 and 2000 and duplicated on cassette tapes. In 1995 I was living in a studio apartment on South Cloverdale Street near West 6th St. in mid-town Los Angeles. I had two Techniques decks set up on milk crates, an archaic handed-down Numark mixer and a cassette deck. It was on this set up that I recorded my first formal mixtape, live in one take to cassette, tape hiss and all. The original tape copy was brought to Smitty, a rave music tape duplicator based in San Fernando Valley, who I paid to press up around 200 copies. At the time I was DJing with Jun from Umoja Hi-Fi at Nova Express (opened '93, closed '08) on Fairfax Blvd, a late-night coffee & pizza cafe. Our night was called Goa Dub, one of the first club nights to feature ambient, trip-hop, dub and downtempo music in an all-ages after-hours space (most weeks we DJed till 4 a.m.). The music on this mix represents the tracks and moods of that time. I no longer have the complete track listing but some artists I recognize include Mad Professor, DJ Shadow, Manaseh, A Guy Called Gerald, Funki Porcini, Fila Brazillia, Edge Test, Sub-Surfing, Bandulu, Biosphere and others. Part One: Liquid focuses on ambient electronic sounds, beat-less soundscapes and some dubby techno. Part Two: Solid is downtempo and trip-hop beats. Cover design by Guy from Funk Pistol, Hawaii. Enjoy!
