Jack and Jeremy run down a list of guys who surprisingly lasted 10+ years in the major leagues - some guys you might've thought lasted longer and some guys you can believe hung around as long as they did - lots of old baseball guys get name-checked in this one. But before all that, Jack recaps his Dave Clark auto fail (again), the guys talk about the Pirates security guard, and we hear a recap of graphing the Monday night Cubs/Marlins game with a harrowing story from Jeremy after Jack left for the night…here's a hint, it involves a Cubs superstar and a late night wait at the parking lot…see who Jeremy has a run in with and will there be ink involved?!?
Flexport was a breakout success—reimagining global trade with tech at its core. But when the freight market cooled and efficiency overtook service, things started to unravel. Founder Ryan Petersen stepped aside, handing the CEO role to former Amazon exec Dave Clark. Months later, he was back at the helm.In this episode, Ryan explains what went wrong, how he's rebuilding Flexport—cutting $300M in costs, restoring customer focus—and why promoting from within beats chasing outside stars. As an adoptee, Pam Korreng always wondered about her biological parents. In 2021, hoping for some answers, she used Ancestry DNA. What Pam discovered was that her dad, Dave Clark, was an immensely talented singer, musician, actor, comedian, karate expert, stripper and cosmic seeker, who, after pioneering Australian rock 'n' roll in the 1950s with Barry Crocker, became glam-rock shocker Count Copernicus in the 1970s. But her father's story runs deeper than that, beginning in the horrors of war during The Blitz and ending in the bliss of a peaceful NYC spiritual community in the 21st century.Patreon: patreon.com/forgottenaustraliaApple: apple.co/forgottenaustraliaThe Cosmic Clownhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Xc3vgPD4jk&t=3sCheck out Ross Hamilton's band Stringybarkhttps://stringybark.com/To buy They'll Never Hold Me:https://www.booktopia.com.au/they-ll-never-hold-me-michael-adams/book/9781923046474.htmlThe Murder Squad:https://www.booktopia.com.au/the-murder-squad-michael-adams/book/9781923046504.htmlHanging Ned Kelly:https://www.booktopia.com.au/hanging-ned-kelly-michael-adams/book/9781922992185.htmlAustralia's Sweetheart:https://www.booktopia.com.au/australia-s-sweetheart-michael-adams/book/9780733640292.htmlEmail: forgottenaustraliapodcast@gmail.com Hosted on Acast. This podcast is like a walk on the red carpet into the world of AI filmmaking with one of its leaders. The message here is clear. By trying out these tools, you'll be evolving to meet the world that is coming. One of the major points behind this conversation is to diminish the fears of people who believe that AI is coming to take their jobs. Simply trying out these new platforms will give you an opening to skills that you're going to need in the new world. You might even find this more creative than what you're doing now and pivot toward it. Dave Clark knows people just like that. Artificial intelligence and automation are transforming the way companies get stuff to stores and doorsteps, changing the world of logistics, transportation and the supply chain, as demonstrated by a few Amazon-related stories we covered this week: Amazon's unveiling of a new "Vision-Assisted Package Retrieval (VAPR) system for the cargo hold of its electric Rivian vans; The announcement of Amazon's next-generation fulfillment center, with updated and expanded versions of its robotics systems in Shreveport, La. Former Amazon Consumer CEO Dave Clark's launch of a new supply chain technology startup, based in Seattle with $100 million in funding out of the gate. Those are our topics in our first two segments of the show this week. In the third segment, we hear more about the new Cancer AI Alliance spearheaded by Seattle's Fred Hutch Cancer Center, in partnership with other national cancer research organizations and major tech companies including Amazon, Microsoft and Nvidia. Did OpenAI really ask its investors to avoid backing rivals like Anthropic and xAI? That's what hosts Devin Coldewey, Margaux MacColl and special guest Anthony Ha wanted to know on today's episode of TechCrunch's Equity podcast. The team kicked off the show with a look at OpenAI's $6.6 billion round, which is being called the ‘largest VC round of all time'. Devin broke down what the funding could mean for the company's path to profitability, and debunked some of the rumors floating around post-announcement - especially given how unusual those investor restrictions would be in later-stage funding. OpenAI is not all that was on the Equity crew's minds this week. Margaux wanted to discuss Dave Clark's new venture, Auger, which just raised $100 million to make supply chains more efficient with AI. Taking Clark's Amazon and Flexport history into consideration, Augur could be on the path to success amid current global supply chain issues and the recent longshoreman strikes. To round out our deals of the week, Anthony set his sights on Impulse Space, which recently secured $150 million to develop and launch its orbital transfer vehicles. What about the AI that people don't want? Margaux took us deeper into her coverage of Shield AI, AI weapons and ethics. On the subject of tech getting out of hand, Devin and Anthony closed out the show with an update on the ongoing antitrust case against Google, and what a potential breakup could mean for the tech giant and startups looking to disrupt search. Hit play to join the conversation, and Equity will be back next week!Equity is TechCrunch's flagship podcast, produced by Theresa Loconsolo, and posts every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
