Matt talked about the challenge players may have going from Spring Training to the World Baseball Classic, back to spring games then the regular season. He said the schedule can be wonky for someone like Paul Skenes, who is pitching for Team USA. The guys pointed out some pitch limits for guys in the WBC. Matt doesn't think Skenes will go close to a 95-pitch limit in a game with the US. Matt thinks a deal happening could be the difference between Konnor Griffin being on the Opening Day roster and not – no deal likely means he will start in Triple A. The guys asked Matt about meeting Tony Gwynn and a loaded Padres team that was fresh off a World Series appearance. Matt said he was in awe of pretty much everything during his first spring. Matt talked about Gwynn's masterful work at the plate and how he could have hit more home runs if he really wanted to. Matt was surprised to find out he never gave up a HR to Ken Griffey Jr. Matt had some funny stories about facing Barry Bonds early in his MLB career. We looked through some other funny Matt stats from his playing days.

A cult classic, Waiting for Guffman is a mockumentary chronicling a small community theatre's production of its town's history. Boasting a host of exceptional improv actors — Catherine O'Hara, Eugene Levy, and Fred Willard to name a few — the Christopher Guest written and directed feature is jam packed with laughs. Guest, who also serves as the films lead Corky St. Clair, is in his comfort zone here. He gets the material, letting the actors take command and playing to their immense comedic strengths. Although it is beloved now, Waiting for Guffman was not a huge hit. In fact, it barely made it to the big screen. Its critical success, however, did lead to several more films in the same vein — Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, and For Your Consideration. All of which are worth watching, as well. Nearly two months on from a sewage spill that completely destroyed their crops, Mahurangi oyster farmers are still waiting to see a full compensation package. 1200 cubic metres of sewage overflowed from a Watercare pump station in late October, contaminating thousands of oysters in the Mahurangi river and preventing the farmers from harvesting for nearly a month. Watercare agreed to give a million dollars in compensation to 10 affected farmers, who split it between them, and the organisation promised to provide a second payment before the end of the year. But as Evie Richardson reports, the farmers are still waiting and getting increasingly desperate.
