What a treat to have Freya Wolf on the show plus every song from her new album called "Just Another Day" was an exclusive to New Starz Show thanks Freya and Ross Hemsworth of Remote Highway. The album will be released April 29th 2022. Freya was born in Aberdare in South Wales in 1978 She lived in Aberdare, Swansea, Carmarthenshire raised alongside The Stereophonics and like so many Welsh people, was born with an amazing voice! She moved to Street in 2008 before travelling the UK for two years, with stays in London, Scotland, North and South Wales, Cornwall, Devon, before finally settling in Somerset. As a classical pianist she was inspired early on by Nina Simone and Beverly Craven. She then found a love for female soul singers. She says “I have varied tastes from rock to reggae, classical piano to drum and bass. However, my all-time favourite soul tracks are RESPECT by Aretha Franklin and My Baby Just Cares for Me by Nina Simone. My favourite track from other genres is Brighter Days by Hybrid Minds ft Charlotte Haining.” Freya writes and co-writes her own material including her first two singles This Man is Mine” and “Meet Me at 8” both of which she co-wrote with U.S. Songwriter's Hall of Fame member Ross Hemsworth. The single Red Roses (Are Never Enough) also co-written with Ross, attracted the interest of world-famous guitarist Marc Ribler who provided the solo and outro guitar work on the rack. FOUR of the tracks from the album, have already been picked up by two U.S. music publishing companies who specialise in placing music into films and TV series' through pitches on Broadjam! Freya's first three singles have had considerable global airplay but we believe the forthcoming single I CAME HERE TO DANCE could see her rocket into the public eye with yet more radio and media interviews planned and even senior management of online platforms such as TikTok are now showing a big interest in Freya! **Explicit Permission has been given by the artist and Remote Highway to play the songs and the interview ** --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/neil-clark10/message

My friend, Chris SD, from Sync Songwriter will talk all about sync licensing -- all the ins and outs, all you need to know, all the different ways you can get licensed, how you can build relationships in the business and how to get more of your music licensed. Be ready to get excited about sync placements just like how Chris is so passionate about it. He is bringing 5 of his music supervisor friends on a virtual panel this October 11th so you can learn inside tips directly from them. Join us on this free workshop at femusician.com/chris. Chris started as a touring indie musician in Canada. The band parted ways then he got into music production and working in different roles with bigger artists and won some awards. He was then given the opportunity to move to LA for work. After his wife got pregnant, he yearned to spend more time with his daughter instead of being in the studio for 12-14 hours a day. He thought about moving his work online which he did, then he started getting inquiries about sync licensing. He previously had a similar job in Canada and so he started connecting with music supervisors in the US. So now his job is connecting indie artists with music supervisors for television and film. There is so much great music from indie artists but they lack relationship with the right people in the industry. When Chris was working with indie artists in Canada, he did notice that the indie artists were just as good as the bigger artists except that they do not have the managers and labels to push them. When Chris started doing sync licensing, he didn't know anything about it. He thought having the connections was enough so he did all the mistakes. He sent the wrong music or sent it at the wrong time and did the wrong approach. By talking with music supervisors and learning more about the behind the scenes, he cracked the code about sync licensing and helped people do that. After teaching people, he brought them infront of the music supervisors and let them build that relationship themselves. Here are other important things Chris shared:Types of Payments from Sync LicensingWhen your music if played on TV or film, you got performance fees from your PRO. Sync Fee - lump of cash to license your music from the productionRoyalties - Everytime that show airs, you get royalties for that. You can have one song playing in more than one show and you can get a lot of royalties for that.Typical Ways to Submit Your Music for Sync LicensingPay-to-submit sites (ex. Whatever you submit has to be the final mix that is played.Your songs also need to be cleared ahead of time and fully and legally authorized to be used in the show. When you get yourself a placement, you have to be ready. You will get a lot of attention but that is fleeting. You need to capitalize that moment. You need to make sure your music is out there and people can find your music and find out who you are. Having your lyrics on your website also helps in a big way so people can search you just by your lyrics. The ultimate way of getting your music into TV and film is developing relationships and your reputation with the actual people who play the music.Chris will be having an amazing event on October 11th at 11 AM Pacific Time where he brings 5 music supervisors and hear all the behind the scenes of sync licensing so you can see a road map on how you can get your music into TV and film. CEO of Broadjam Roy Elkins talks independent music and it's future. Being a member of Broadjam since 2005 myself, I have been honored to be part of one of the originals!
While freelancing as webmaster for an adult website, and I met Joe Walla when I accompanied my boss to a gigantic adult video, toy and clothing warehouse, where he shopped for items to stock the online store. Sitting behind a desk in the sales office was Joe. He gave us each card that read “Joe WallaThe Million Dollar Man”. You can hear me and Joe talkin' about the porn industry, rockin' and racing, open mics, biker bars, songwriting, reminisce about the old days and - get caught up on some of the stuff Joe's doing now. He also has a Youtube show where he combines the world of rock ’n roll with the combustible world of racing. It can be hard for lesser-known bands and musicians to get a foothold in several areas of the music industry without having the right connections or, as old school as it sounds, a record label. This is true when it comes to trying to get licensing agreements to place their music in radio, film, TV shows, advertising campaigns, and video games. But what if there was a social network built specifically for that reason? What if bands and artists could connect with each other, build relationships, collaborate, and easily find music licensing opportunities to help support their revenue goals? Broadjam.com, founded in 1999, is one of the world’s largest and oldest music community websites that provides services aimed at independent musicians and bands. The website is home to over 500,000 searchable songs and over 190,000 artists from all over the world. To help independent musicians find opportunities, Broadjam holds a variety of sponsored contests throughout the year with the purpose of exposing and rewarding the best in musicianship and songwriting. These songs can go on to receive placement in major media campaigns on the radio, TV, film and even video games. Music industry professionals also use the Broadjam service to find music for feature films, TV and commercials, plus they take will take part in select Broadjam contests to help determine winners and placements. Major record labels use Broadjam’s music encoding service to encode, catalog and control music metadata. Broadjam also offers professional services to industry customers, including their online system for tallying votes in popular music award ceremonies, from the popular Academy of Country Music Awards all the way back Broadjam’s backyard in Madison, Wisconsin for the annual Madison Area Music Awards. Their knowledge and expertise has been trusted by clients such as Warner/Chappell, Advanced Micro Devices, Peavey, Yamaha and more. Roy Elkins, founder and president of Broadjam, joins us in this episode to share his story with us about how Broadjam came about, his experiences and time in the music industry, his past employment at Ensoniq Corporation and Sonic Foundry that gave him a foundation and the connections to establish Broadjam, and his love of continuously giving back to the music industry at both the local and national levels. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/behindthebackline/support
