Few movies capture the essence of leadership, teamwork, and adaptability quite like Top Gun. While it's a high-octane film about elite fighter pilots pushing their limits, the lessons it offers extend far beyond the cockpit—straight into the world of education. Just like Maverick and his fellow aviators must embrace continuous learning, mentorship, and resilience, educators and school leaders face the challenge of preparing students for an ever-evolving future. In this review, we'll break down the powerful parallels between Top Gun and education, exploring what it means to foster a high-performance learning environment where every student can take flight.   Takeaways: Just like Top Gun pilots constantly train and refine their skills, educators must embrace ongoing professional development to adapt to new teaching methods, technologies, and student needs. Maverick learns from his instructors and teammates, just as students benefit from strong teacher-student relationships. Great educators inspire, challenge, and support students to reach their full potential. While Top Gun pilots start as fierce competitors, they quickly realize success depends on working together. In education, collaboration among teachers, administrators, and students creates the best learning environments.   About Stacey Waxtan: Stacey tells her client's story with every selection, building a user experience with intention, form, and delight. A New York City native with a touch of Minnesota nice, she leads the HUNT Interiors Team with style and grace, developing concepts with client direction and overarching themes. Stacey orchestrates collaboration across disciplines, champions new technologies, and supports a true team environment that celebrates the best ideas. As inspiration is paramount to design, Stacey has traveled to conferences and art exhibits in Paris, Milan, Tel Aviv, Tokyo, and across the United States. Mentoring high school and college students, Stacey strives to inspire the next generation of designers and architects to lead with a design story, and always from the perspective of the end user. Stacey is passionate about community building and art in public spaces. She's a member of AIA, serves as Board Member on the Community Design Center of Rochester, is a repeat team member [and runway model] in the AIA Rochester Product Runway Fashion Show, and practices ballet whenever possible.     FF&E Procurement Revisionism Series Episode 1: Seeing Furniture as an Active Participant in the Learning Environment Episode 2: How to Select the Right Solution and Ensure Buy-In Episode 3: Furniture Procurement Doesn't Have to Be Hard or Scary   What is The End of Average Concept?      Learn More About HUNT EAS: Website: https://www.hunt-eas.com/       Connect with Stacey Waxtan: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/stacey-veolette-waxtan-87503a6/   Connect with host, Kevin Stoller: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kevinstoller/     Episode 225 of the Better Learning Podcast Kevin Stoller is the host of the Better Learning Podcast and Co-Founder of Kay-Twelve, a national leader for educational furniture. Happy New Year, and welcome back. Today we have Greg with Larrikin. This was such a great episode and a great chat, conversation flowed well and was very interesting. Hope you enjoy it, but first a word from our sponsors. Hinterhausdistilling.com Badmotivatorbarrels.com/shop/?aff=3 https://www.instagram.com/zsmithwhiskeyandmixology?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet&igsh=ZDNlZDc0MzIxNw== Patreon.com/the_whiskeyshaman Live the larrikin Way. Larrikin (n.) Australian slang. A person who disregards convention; a maverick. Larrikinism was a reaction to rules imposed by British officials on the young country of Australia. Our whiskey reflects this bold spirit of good-natured irreverence, and relies on character, not ceremony. You may not know Larrikin the word- but you do know these Larrikins;Annie Oakley, Crocodile Dundee, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Pete Mitchell and Steve Erwin. We're greg & katie. From Lawrenceburg to Larrikin—our name might've evolved, but our mission's still as solid as a rock. Larrikin Bourbon Co. is the true-blue embodiment of the American Dream: a craft distillery built from scratch with a fair dinkum, no-nonsense approach to making bloody good bourbon. Our founder, LCDR Greg Keeley, USN (ret), has had a wild ride. Greg's journey kicked off in a vineyard Down Under, to national security professional, and eventually landed in the extraordinary world of distilling. As a Service-Disabled Navy Combat Veteran, Greg has the unique honor of commissioned service in both the United States Navy and the Royal Australian Navy, with combat roles in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Pacific. Raised in Oz, he also served with the Australian Federal Police. At Larrikin, we don't muck around. We're not here to spin yarns about bourbon dating back to the Pilgrims. Our focus is dead simple: what kind of bourbon do we want in our glass? That's what gets us out of bed. Our goal? To craft extraordinary, novel whiskies that we're stoked to pour and even prouder to share. We bring a bit of Aussie cheek to American whiskey, blending tradition with a whole lot of passion. So here's to great bourbon, good mates, and chasing something truly special. Cheers, cobber! We are LARRIKIN. BLOODY GOOD BOURBON…and the experts agree. Private Barrel Program Our Private Barrel Program is the bee's knees. Handpicked casks that are as rare as hen's teeth. Each barrel is a one-of-a-kind gem—unrepeatable and extraordinary. Simply put, some barrels are just outstanding—first among equals. Choose your barrel in person at the distillery, or remotely, with a curated experience from the comfort of your home, office, or club. Thanks to the new-fangled inter-web, you can taste, evaluate, and select your cask with real-time guidance from our distiller - and find your perfect single barrel select. Let's clear the air: we don't blend our Private Cask selections. We bottle bourbon or rye straight from one single barrel - that you choose. No mucking about. Once it's bottled, there is no more. Your hand-picked bourbon is one-of-a-kind and impossible to replicate. Your Larrikin Bourbon Select bottles feature the barrel's special details like your logo or message along with age, proof, and mash bill. Whether you're a retailer, distributor, bourbon club, individual with a great taste in bourbon or charity group, your bottles are uniquely yours. Depending on the cask's age, you'll get between 140 and 240, 750ml bottles. Rule of thumb, the older the cask, the fewer bottles. No wait, no drama, just bloody good bourbon.

On this episode, Sean and Chris sit down with Top Gun fighter pilot turned thriller author, Jack Stewart to discuss his debut novel, UKNOWN RIDER. SYNOPSIS: After a Navy pilot inexplicably loses control of his stealth fighter, he stumbles upon a global conspiracy, and embarks on a thrilling chase filled with espionage and betrayal. TOP GUN instructor Colt Bancroft has just catapulted off the USS Abraham Lincoln, his F-35C Joint Strike Fighter trailing blue and yellow flame as he climbs into the night sky off the California coast. When he is sent to investigate a series of mysterious lights floating dangerously close to his aircraft carrier, disaster strikes. His jet becomes unresponsive as it rolls inverted and enters a nosedive aimed right at the aircraft carrier's unsuspecting escort cruiser… What follows is a tale of heroism and betrayal, spycraft and suspense, and aerial combat against an unexpected adversary. To clear his name and unmask a traitor, Colt must survive a dangerous game of spy-vs-spy, where trusting the wrong person could cost him his life. To stop the enemy from hitting their ultimate target, Colt must use every ounce of his skill and training…and uncover the identity of the UNKNOWN RIDER. Many episodes of The Spear have featured stories of action at the tactical level. This episode departs from that pattern, as Capt. Pete Mitchell joins host Tim Heck for a converation that reframes the role of the lieutenant. An air defense artillery officer, Mitchell was deployed to Guam in 2013 with the first operational Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) unit in the Army. The deployment came against the backdrop of an increasingly bellicose North Korea, but was also part of a broader US military shift toward the Indo-Pacific region. The scope of a lieutenant's focus is often limited—geographically and otherwise. But the decisions a junior officer makes can, in circumstances like those surrounding Mitchell's deployment, have implications that reverberate much more widely, even to the strategic level. Listen as he shares the story of that deployment.

↫Story↬ (Story written by me! Check me out on Wattpad: https://www.wattpad.com/user/Kaila_Falcon) …… It was a surprise when he'd showed up on your doorstep, completely unannounced, claiming he needed to talk to you. About what? You're still not too sure. All you do know is that you'd somehow managed to end up not too far from the runway the pilot at your side practically calls home. It has been a short ride to where you are now, lying on your back against a blanket you'd nabbed before you'd left, your gaze wandering the heavens gradually coming to life as the Sun sets. Crickets, the distant ocean waves and traffic all blend into one relaxing sound, coupled with the odd overhead fighter jet passing by. You needed this - life's been busy. And now, as you shift closer to the man at your side, a certain set of emotions settle within you, a notebook and pencil in his grasp. “A rolling reversal might work,” You suggest, glancing at the poorly printed diagram the pilot is peering at in the dying light. At this, Pete Mitchell nods thoughtfully, passing you a rather impressed and surprised look. “If I reversed on a hard cross, I could immediately go to guns on him,” Comes the reply, his hands mimicking the plane's actions. “That sounds a bit too aggressive. The one they call Maverick just chuckles, a smirk tugging at the edges of his lips. “Too aggressive,” He repeats softly, grin broadening. “Yeah, I guess when I see somethin' I go right after it.” The pilot's voice trails off, a note being scribbled on the piece of paper before it's tossed aside, attention now solely focused on you. “You didn't tell me who you were the other night.” Now it's your turn to chuckle, memories of the rather sharply dressed figure deciding to make his move on you in that bar coming to the forefront. “You didn't really give me a chance to.” “I know. But, uh… you were tempted…” You raise an eyebrow questioningly, almost in disbelief. “To ask me out for dinner.” All you can do is huff a chuckle, a blush adorning your cheeks. “Maybe sometime later, but you beat me to it, showing up tonight, out of the blue.” Maverick just grins, once more picking up his notebook and scribbling a last few notes before tuning the radio settled between the pair of you, the soothing melodies beginning to play. Something settles in the silence between you both as the song continues, with Pete finally breaking the silence, his features suddenly a lot closer than you'd last recalled. “It's gonna be complicated. You know, on the first one, I crashed and burned.” Your blush deepens as he speaks, your gaze involuntarily darting to his lips and then back to his eyes. “And the second?” You barely manage to muse, your voice so small it makes your heart skip as he nears, tone lowering into a certain playfulness, his gaze glimmering with a well-intended mischief. “I don't know. But, it's lookin' good so far.” And from there, the night stretches on into a calm bliss, the stars finally beginning to twinkle with the comforting darkness as jet after jet continues to take off and land. This certainly is an evening you won't be forgetting for quite some time.

The mass shooter is imperialistic in their demand for the dominance of space-time. They research other mass shootings and targets to create a simulation, e.g., using the Columbine school shooting as a model. The virtual world is the “real” audience for their final [suicidal] act. YouTube says, “Broadcast Yourself” and that is what the mass shooter does: a performance of exhibitionistic violence/suicide intended for online virality. In the movie Top Gun, Pete Mitchell (played by Tom Cruise) decided he would Never Settle for second place. He would be the Best of the Best. Maverick would always be himself. Meaning his persona, Maverick, who was competitive, arrogant, and manipulative. In the U.S. celebrity culture, self-centeredness and selfishness are virtues. The aerial dogfighting of Top Gun is the perfect metaphor for Social Darwinism: the strong achieve through violence and the weak perish. The mass shooter is the ultimate Maverick, but they do not follow “kill or be killed”, because in the mass shooter's case it is killed and be killed. The mass shooter is the loser of neoliberalism. Their bound energy (agitation) is a mobilizing passion to be a winner (for the moment). The mass shooter gains situational power from a gun (Top Gun) to enforce a relationship with Others. Therefore, the mass shooter uses violence to inflict a fascist relationship (forced unity) to relieve their despair. The agitation ends in violence (murder, incapacitation/suicide). The act is imperial in its magnificence (as a spectacle), but now the media is numb to the event. There are approximately 2 mass shootings (4 or more people shot) per day in the U.S. (despair). We escape into the virtual world where we are exploited by Big Tech (craving by design). We are Mindless (passive) and Joyless (split from the body): a state of simple consciousness where we are increasingly dependent. We track the self and make it into an Empire of the Self. Now that Top Gun:Maverick has been released on streaming platforms its time to revisit it and attack it as a threesome.Official Movie SynopsisAfter more than 30 years of service as one of the Navy's top aviators, Pete "Maverick" Mitchell is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him. Training a detachment of graduates for a special assignment, Maverick must confront the ghosts of his past and his deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who choose to fly it.Without giving too much away, the anticipation we had for this movie was almost unbearable, with delays due to the pandemic the public was left to wait through many delayed release dates. Whether you like Tom Cruise or not there is no denying that he can make a great movie and this is no different. Top Gun:Maverick was certainly worth the wait and we thoroughly enjoyed giving the Born to Watch treatment to this instant classic. Please follow the Podcast and join our community at https://www.facebook.com/borntowatchpodcastf you are looking to start a podcast and want a host or guests to pipe in remotely, look no further than Riverside.fmClick the link below https://riverside.fm/?utm_campaign=campaign_1&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_source=rewardful&via=matthew-white

Can Tom Cruise age any better?  Or less hotter? We keep sighing. Now about Anek. We loved it for it's brave script. Anek asks the difficult question of what it means to be Indian, a loaded riddle in a period where Hindutva rhetoric has fostered brutal discrimination all across India. A must watch. In Theaters now and later on NetflixToolsidas Jr. deserves all the publicity it can get. Told by Midi, who is the director Mridul himself, it is such a personal, heart-felt story of love and accomplishment that it is almost pure magnificence. Loved this movie. Recommend it. 36 years after playing pilot Pete Mitchell in the first Top Gun film, Tom Cruise returns to the role. Now Mitchell is one of the US Navy's top aviators, a courageous test pilot and instructor. He can dodge planes in the air but avoiding the advancement in rank that would ground him proves more difficult for him. Larushka Ivan Zadeh reviews the film. Joseph Wright of Derby was a fine portrait painter but is best known as the first artist to paint scenes of the Industrial Revolution and its scientific processes, such as in his most famous work, An Experiment on a Bird in the Air Pump. Today one of his paintings, in a private collection since 1772, became the centre piece of the Joseph Wright collection at Derby Museums and Art Gallery. On one side there is a self-portrait, on the other a study for An Experiment on a Bird in the Air Pump. Curator Lucy Bamford explains why this is such a significant acquisition. So that the exhibits are not confined to within the museum building, London Transport Museum is running guided tours of the Kingsway Tram Tunnel in Central London. Opened in 1906 the last tram ran through it in 1952. Since it was abandoned it has been a secret space in the heart of the city. Samira visits the tunnel with transport historian Tim Dunn and Siddy Holloway of the London Transport Museum and discovers part of the capital's hidden heritage. Louise Erdrich is a member of the Turtle Mountain Band and of Chippewa, and is the latest of our authors shortlisted for the Women's Prize for Fiction 2022 for The Sentence. The novel is about a bookshop, a haunting, and the events that unfurled in Minneapolis between All Souls' Day in 2019 and 2020, including of course the death of George Floyd.
