In this fascinating conversation, Charlie shares his profound journey through music and mental health with Jayda. Talking about the incredible highs he's experienced as a DJ, but also the often unspoken harder parts of the industry, including the loneliness and depression he experienced. Diving deeper into his mental health, Charlie talks with Jayda about he was struggling the hardest at some of the most pivotal moments in his career, and how discovering running and yoga transformed his mental health. Jayda hears how the significant impact running had for Charlie, led him to found the urban running collective Run Dem Crew, to encourage more inner city Londoners to take up running. They talk about how running, movement and community are pillars of hope for them, internally and socially, as well as why Charlie works with disadvantaged communities, including in prisons, to share the practice of yoga with them, to help give hope and inner strength to those he feels needs it most. Charlie also expands on why yoga classes and wellness spaces must diversify, so people of all backgrounds can see themselves in the spaces and feel a sense of belonging and connection with wellness practice too. Follow Charlie DarkFollow Jayda GFollow Heres HopingMore on our guestRun Dem CrewHailing from South London, growing up on pirate radio and warehouses parties, Charlie Dark is a stalwart of the underground UK music scene, spinning records and igniting dance floors since the early eighties. From his time on Mo Wax records with Attica Blues in the 90's, a major label deal on Sony Records and the plethora of remixes and productions, DJing and bringing people together has been at the heart of everything he's gone onto achieve. If you ever caught his Blacktronica Parties, sets at the legendary Plastic People or listened to his Worldwide FM or NTS radio shows then you'll know that 'All forms of music in one room the way it used to be' has always been his motto and his record crates run deep. Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH is a 1971 children's science fiction/fantasy book by Robert C. O'Brien, with illustrations by Zena Bernstein. The novel was published by the New York City publishing house Atheneum Books.   This book was the winner of numerous awards including the 1972 Newbery Medal.   Ten years following its publication, the story was adapted for film as The Secret of NIMH (1982).   The novel centres around a colony of escaped lab rats–the rats of NIMH–who live in a technologically sophisticated and literate society mimicking that of humans. They come to the aid of Mrs. Frisby, a widowed field mouse who seeks to protect her children and home from destruction by a farmer's plow.   The rats of NIMH were inspired by the research of John B. Calhoun on mouse and rat population dynamics at the National Institute of Mental Health from the 1940s to the 1960s.   After O'Brien's death in 1973, his daughter Jane Leslie Conly wrote two sequels to Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH.   The Secret of NIMH is a 1982 American animated fantasy adventure film directed by Don Bluth in his directorial debut and based on Robert C. O'Brien's 1971 children's novel, Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH. The film features the voices of Elizabeth Hartman, Peter Strauss, Arthur Malet, Dom DeLuise, John Carradine, Derek Jacobi, Hermione Baddeley, and Paul Shenar. It was produced by Bluth's production company Don Bluth Productions in association with Aurora Productions.   The Secret of NIMH was released in the United States on July 2, 1982, by MGM/UA Entertainment Co. under the United Artists label. It was praised by critics for its elegant and painstakingly detailed animation, compelling characters, and deep and mature plot, and won a Saturn Award for Best Animated Film of 1982. Though only a moderate success at the box office, it turned a solid profit through home video and overseas releases. It was followed in 1998 by a direct-to-video sequel, The Secret of NIMH 2: Timmy to the Rescue, which was made without Bluth's involvement or input and met with poor reception. In 2015, a live-action/computer-animated remake was reported to be in the works. In episode 150 of our podcast, we discuss three biblical ways to prevent burnout. Burnout is a common problem that affects many people, and it can have serious consequences on our physical and mental health.  The first way to prevent burnout is to prioritize rest and Sabbath. God designed us to rest and recharge, and it's important to take time off to relax and rejuvenate.  The second way is to practice gratitude and cultivate a heart of thankfulness. When we focus on the good things in our lives, we can find joy and peace even in difficult circumstances.  The third way is to seek community and support. We were not meant to go through life alone, and having a supportive network of friends and family can help us through challenging times. By following these biblical principles, we can prevent burnout and live a more fulfilling and joyful life. Maria Cuccia was born in Astoria, Queens New York in 1960. Her family moved to Long Island in 1964 which is where she lived most of her life. She began studying piano at the age of seven, and for her 16 th birthday, her parents gave her the choice of a car or a grand piano. She chose the piano. Maria's passion for playing the piano continued during her college years and she chose music education as her major with a minor in biology, while attending the University of Rhode Island.n 1982, Maria married a chiropractor and eventually gave birth to three daughters. In 1987, she launched a successful piano studio in her home where she was able to make a living by teaching piano to children and adults while remaining close to her three daughters on a daily basis. Life for Maria and her family was ordinary, until she experienced something extraordinary one night in 1992. She was suddenly awakened from her sleep at around 3:00 am. and sensed a strange energy penetrate her body. She felt as if she was being transported by a beam of light which carried her from her bed to what appeared to be a spacecraft. She found herself surrounded by non-human beings who instructed her to look outside the window, at a group of children. One of the boys stood gazing at her, and slowly waved his hand. The beings told her the boy was her son, and that his name was Elijah.Maria spoke about the experience often and desperately tried to understand why her extraordinary experience left her with emotions she could not explain. When friends and family expressed their concern about her psychiatric well-being, she stopped speaking about the experience, and turned to prayer instead. Eventually, she discovered the healing powers of meditation as it helped her cope with her emotional distress. Inspired by her self-observation and transcendence, she decided to purchase a synthesizer to help her transfer her emotions to sounds that resonated in her mind. She discovered beauty in using music as universal language and began to compose music for healing and meditation. She dedicated her compositions to the inspiration of her memory of the boy named Elijah. In 1993, Maria released her first professionally recorded album called “Internal Peace”. Her music rapidly became a best seller for a record company located in Hollywood, California. In 1995, her meditation music was voted Best New Music in a New Age Trade Magazine. Her popularity increased as record producers and DJs began to ask her to collaborate on various projects. In 2001, Maria decided to launch Elijah Records and Elisha Music Publishing, and dedicated a great deal of time supporting independent musicians from around the world. She began licensing music for film and television in 2003 and signed contracts with Arista Records, Sony Records, BMG-Japan, Victor Music Publishing, Beatball Records Korea, Modern Works Music Publishing, and several music companies throughout Europe and Asia.In 2005, Maria became CEO of Advanced Back Technologies, a medical device company she co-founded with her ex-husband to promote his invention. The business enabled her to travel to countries such as Korea, Russia, China, Egypt, Turkey, Lebanon, Greece, Saudi Arabia, and many others where she occasionally shared stories of her healing music. In 2020, she decided to move to Naples, Florida to quarantine during the Covid-19 pandemic. During quarantine, she discovered the healing power of writing, and became a published author by contributing her transformational story to a book anthology called Turning Point Moments, now available on Amazon. Maria's upcoming memoir will be published during 2022.Website mariacuccia.comBook Turning Point Moments

On today’s episode, I speak with Biet, who is the world-renowned meditation leader dubbed the “David Bowie of Meditation”. As a musician, Biet weaves the world of pop culture and spirituality, teaching practical applications of ancient spiritual wisdom. The teachings are featured in Biet’s best selling book, ‘Don’t Just Sit There!’ published by Simon & Schuster. Raised by a Shaman in New York City, Biet signed to Sony Records at the age of 19 as a singer/songwriter. Diving into a Rock & Roll lifestyle, Biet became a high profile DJ in the fashion and art scene in Manhattan. However, following a string of life changing events, including the sudden loss of her daughter, Biet turned to her lifetime study of meditation and launched the Guided By Biet event series. The meditation experience reached a contemporary audience in cultural spaces, including museums, hotels, and fashion shows. These groundbreaking events were scored by her own music and were the first time meditation was mixed with pop culture, creating the revolutionary new trend. Featured in Vogue, Forbes, ELLE, and TIME magazine, and as the resident meditation guru at The Sundance Film Festival, 1 Hotels, MoMA, and SoulCycle, Biet advises spiritual best practices for hotels and brands. Biet is best known for modernizing the spiritual path and has been called the "Meditation Guru for the next generation.” I had the lovely opportunity to connect with Biet at a gathering last year. We talk about the following and so much more! ✅ What “spirituality” means to her ✅ How her childhood shaped the way she saw the world, and in particular how her relationship with her father shaped her. ✅ Why finding a purpose larger than yourself is so important ✅ What it means to come back from difficult moments, and how can one deal with adversity? ✅ What attracted her to this space and what she thinks about modern spirituality ✅ What the “Guided By Biet” event series is - and why breakthwork is so important? On this episode of Headliners, Greg sits down with ALMA MATER to talk about their new single FADING MOON.Oregon folk rock duo, Alma Mater, comprised of veterans of the Los Angeles and Oregon music scene, Dirk Sullivan and Andrew Paul Woodworth. The pair teamed up with producer Gregg Williams (Sheryl Crow, The Dandy Warhols, Blitzen Trapper, Emmylou Harris) to craft the poignant orchestral folk pop tune.Andrew confides, “I was never afraid of dying until I had a child. Fading Moon, on the surface, seems like a love letter to my two baby boys. But, in reality, it's a means to comfort myself from my overwhelming fear of leaving them behind when I die. When pure and intense love is experienced, there is a level of pain associated with it. I've never been more happy, but I've never been more scared. So this seemingly sweet, folky ditty is really a pretty dark, anxious proclamation.”Musically, the hypnotic guitar riff of “Fading Moon” was written when Dirk was in hospice care, visiting his sick mother. Performing for her brought her joy and “Fading Moon” also represents the magic and healing nature of music.Combined, Alma Mater have spent two decades recording and touring in various projects. Sullivan was signed to Interscope Records with his band Love On Ice and Woodworth fronted Elephant Ride, signed to Sony Records.Anxious for some musical therapy during the pandemic, the two started meeting in Woodworth's garage. Sullivan was enthralled with an alternate tuning on his guitar and found himself writing songs at a blistering clip, totally inspired by this fresh reverence for his instrument. He found the perfect partner in Woodworth, who could add pathos and melody to his already provocative landscapes. Sullivan was wrestling with a recent divorce and with the slow demise of his mother. By contrast, Woodworth was about to welcome his first child. They found a kinship in the intensity of their disparate stories. Somehow those contrasting life experiences brought out something completely raw and beautiful and melancholic and utterly explosive in their writing.CONNECT WITH ALMA MATERInstagram SUPPORT THIS SHOW

Tonight I am on the couch with Keisha Jackson, the daughter of the sassy, legendary BOSS lady, Millie Jackson. I remember my parents playing Ms. Millie Jackson's albums and how defying her album covers were. When I learned that Keisha too is a singer and a BOSS, I had to talk to her. You know how they say, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree? Well, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Keisha Jackson is a BOSS lady like her mama. Keisha began singing professionally at age 15 as a background vocalist for her mother. She went on to record two albums with Sony Records and has contributed vocals on recordings with iconic artists like Aretha Franklin, Toni Braxton, Whitney Houston, Kaiser Chiefs, Erasure, Da Brat and others. She has toured with rap music icons Outkast, Erykah Badu, Angie Stone, George Clinton, Faith Evans, Raphael Saadiq, Yacht Rock Revue (current), and more. My biggest pull to Keisha is her love for mental health and wellness. She's also a certified life coach and a well-respected industry vocal coach. In her role as a vocal coach, she is counseling her clients and supporting their mental health journey, though she may not know it ;) She continues to manage her vocal coaching agency, One Voice Entertainment which she conceived in 2001. We welcome the beautiful and amazing Linda Septien who is truly one of the best voice instructors in the world. She is the CEO and Founder of Septien Entertainment Group in Addison, Tx.She has over 35+ years of experience, whose success is measured by the number of successful pop icons she has prepared, trained and helped launch into thriving careers. Named on the cover of the Dallas Observer as the “Kingpin of Pop Talent, Linda is the forefront authority on all phases of launching an artist's career including vocal technique, vocal disorders, vocal production, stage presence, vocal branding and viral marketing for all ages of artists. With over 17,287 students to her legacy, including branded icons Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, Kacey Musgraves, Kidz Bop, Ryan Cabrera, Leon Bridges and Jessica Simpson, among other “cash producing” artists, Linda prides herself on her ability to recognize talent & create an effective development strategy to launch a branded long term career artist.Linda was born and raised in Louisiana by a family of musicians and her now 96 year old mother who still performs Ragtime. She has a nephew who is in a band called Midlake that is signed on the Tupac Label. Both her sons Remington and Huntington are musicians as well. Linda tells us what it means to be an opera singer and that they hire you by your voice. She travelled all throughout Italy and Croatia and became a DIVA! Thinking she was all that in her late 20's she returned to Nashville and decided to record a commercial pop album, only to be told by the producer that she was absolutely terrible. He told her to become a Diesel Sniffer "GROUPIE" to learn what it truly takes. She toured with N'Sync for a while, Rolling Stones and anyone she could find - she started studying all the artists in detail and she wrote books on why the audience looked at these Stars and what caused that phenomenon. While she studied all these people she realized that this was not her at all and decided to teach and give all her knowledge to others instead. She tells us about The "IT" factor and how things change in music and gives us the example of Dance Monkey who put an effect on her voice and it became the Number 1 song worldwide for an entire year. Linda made her home in Dallas because her ex husband Rafael Septien, who she met in college was signed with the Dallas Cowboys. They were together for 15 years. She started teaching out of her home and then opened a small studio. Jessica Simpson was one of her first students whose Dad brought her to Linda because Jessica was the only one that didn't make the Mickey Mouse Club audition. At the time Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z and Britney Spears had all made it. We learn all about Jessica's start in the Christian Music Industry and why the Christian audience didn't accept her. We hear about a mishap that happened to her during her opening performance for Ricky Martin in Madison Square Garden. Working with Colombia and Sony Records made Linda really well known and she got Beyonce and everyone that Sony was using back then. What really put her on the map was Daniel Coile who wrote the New York Bestseller TALENT CODE, who was at her studio for 6 weeks to study how she creates and teaches these amazing artists. They were on Nightline and PR took over and because her story was the most interesting they got the most PR and attention. Everyone needs to read the book. Linda says that if her students don't have the work ethic there is not much she can do. She can tell them everything she knows but ultimately they still have to do all the work. She tells us about a studentthat was the most talented she has ever had, who refused to do the extra work and she tore up her contract and stopped working with her. Linda talks about Matthew McConaughey book GREEN LIGHTS and that everyone needs to listen to it on audible and it will make you successful. In today's world you have to have personality to go along with your musical talent and that the ones that are most successful are the ones that do not care about what others think. That is what it takes. Linda has sang the National Anthem over 1000 times at Dallas Mavericks and Dallas Stars games to mention a few. stay tuned to Part 2 where we talk about The other side of Fame, the Metaverse, NFT's, Demi Lavato etc ..................

In late 2012/early 2013, Tate Stevens embarked on a journey with a reality TV show called X Factor. A journey that would change his life for the good, while presenting some of the toughest challenges in his life. Tate won that singing competition, which rewarded him a $5 Million recording contract with Sony Records. What most don't know is what followed after reaching that level of success. Tate dives into his story that covers his entire musical career and some interesting stories from his time on X Factor. Tate also sets the record straight after some statements made by Travis Marvin in Episode 11, that some might view as controversial. Although we discuss much of his professional career, Tate opens up in vulnerability to share the physical/mental impact of all the highs and lows. My former co-worker and KBEQ FM - Q104 Kansas City radio personality, Jillian Gregg joins me in studio as a special co-host. We're very excited to be interviewing Andy Sharpe today! As well as being a great storyteller, Andy is the astute and awesome entrepreneur who founded SongDivision, back in 2003.  Since then, SongDivision has been pioneering ways to use the scientific principles of music to strengthen social bonds and emotional connections and to consolidate corporate culture.  Sir Richard Branson once described SongDivision as a great company that uses the power of music to connect employees and customers.  SongDivision is the official music partner of organizations like IMEX and Hard Rock Hotel and Resort. Andy is from Australia, and he lives in Maui. Andy's background Andy played the clarinet in his school band. He also played the piano, and keyboards in a rock band outside of his school, from when he was about fourteen years old. The band played some gigs in local pubs, and a few years later, they managed to get a development deal with Sony Records.  By then, Andy had started studying at Sydney University. When the band finally got a record contract from ACDC's record label, they all dropped everything and went off to the UK, where they stayed for the next four years.  When he got back to Australia, Andy was recruited by IBM, where he worked for the next ten years in global financing. IBM put him through an MBA. It was through working for IBM that he came to experience the event world, with incentive trips and team-building experiences. Writing songs for pop stars  While working for IBM, Andy continued writing songs for Australian pop stars. As a result, he was asked by Yothu Yindi, Australia's famous indigenous band, to run some songwriting workshops with indigenous teenagers, at their cultural festival. The joyful experience of seeing those kids, who didn't think they could write a song, collectively create a piece of music in the space of an hour or two, had an enormous impact on Andy.  Coming up with the idea to create SongDivision  Although Andy is described as an entrepreneur, he says that he's not a serial entrepreneur. Creating SongDivision was the only entrepreneurial idea that he can ever remember coming up with. How it all started A friend of Andy's in Sydney ran a telecommunications company. He was aware of Andy's success with his songwriting workshops with indigenous kids, and he asked Andy to do the same thing for him, with his sales team.  Andy was reluctant at first, but his friend persisted. So Andy offered to take the team into a recording studio, bring in some session musicians, and some beer and wine, and help them write an original song.  It was a huge success. And having just completed his MBA, Andy saw it as a good opportunity for starting a business. It takes more than an idea to build a business Andy understands that it takes more than an idea to build a business. People tend to think that a good idea is enough but that's not the case. You also need to have a great service or product.  It wasn't easy in the beginning Although everyone was very supportive of Andy when he started his business, it wasn't easy for him. The business never really exploded so he had to continue building it steadily over the last seventeen years.  Andy likens SongDivision to a band that had to build itself, fan by fan until it finally became a big, independent band. There were some great clients in the first year In their first year, SongDivision had some great clients, like three of the four major banks in Australia, AstraZeneca, and Virgin.  Andy understood the value of the service he was offering and people were willing to pay for it, so things were looking positive for the future of the business. An event with Richard Branson SongDivision has done several gigs with Virgin. And, in 2010, when the company had grown considerably, they did an event with Richard Branson himself. It was a magical experience, and at one point Richard Branson even went crowd surfing! Expanding internationally Doing a small event is just as stressful as doing a large one, so Andy chose to go into the corporate market, rather than doing many more, smaller, local events. Checking things out in America Most of the events that SongDivision does are national sales conferences. As there are only a few national sales conferences going on each year in Australia, Andy decided to go and see what was happening in America, for his music, as well as for the business.  He went over at the beginning of 2007, and did two free sessions, with PwC, and with Lehman Brothers.  At the time, the US and Australia had just signed a free trade agreement, so Andy could get a visa to work in the US.  Getting married and moving to America Andy got married in 2008, and he and his wife moved to New York.  Music works! Within about a month, they were doing events with about 3000 people, with companies that invested in their people, brought them together, and made their strategies very clear. Those companies needed help with their communication, getting buy-in from everyone, and connecting people. And they knew that using music, along with SongDivision's proprietary techniques, was viable and it worked!   SongDivision launched in the UK soon after. And they launched in Singapore about five years ago.  Resources: You can find us at www.eventbusinessformula.com  You can find us on Facebook  Eric Rozenberg on LinkedIn   About Andy SongDivision   Connect with Eric: On LinkedIn On Facebook On Instagram On Website If you'd rather watch the video of this interview, subscribe on YouTube
