Handcrafted Careers: Working the Artisan Economy of Craft Beer (U California Press, 2024) unpacks the problems and privileges of pursuing a career of passion by exploring work inside craft breweries. As workers attempt new modes of employment in the era of the Great Resignation, they face a labor landscape that is increasingly uncertain and stubbornly unequal. With Handcrafted Careers, sociologist Eli Revelle Yano Wilson dives headfirst into the everyday lives of workers in the craft beer industry to address key questions facing American workers today: about what makes a good career, who gets to have one, and how careers progress without established models. Wilson argues that what ends up contributing to divergent career paths in craft beer is a complex interplay of social connections, personal tastes, and cultural ideas, as well as exclusionary industry structures. The culture of work in craft beer is based around “bearded white guy” ideals that are gendered and racialized in ways that limit the advancement of women and people of color. A fresh perspective on niche industries, Handcrafted Careers offers sharp insights into how people navigate worlds of work that promote ideas of authenticity and passion-filled careers even amid instability. Michael O. Johnston, Ph.D. is a Assistant Professor of Sociology at William Penn University. He is the author of The Social Construction of a Cultural Spectacle: Floatzilla (Lexington Books, 2023) and Community Media Representations of Place and Identity at Tug Fest: Reconstructing the Mississippi River (Lexington Books, 2022). "60 million women in the US alone have cellulite. And even if we winnow that all the way down to who can afford it, who's so bothered to do something about it, we're still talking about 6 million women."For all of the many successes in the beauty business, efforts to address cellulite have most commonly resulted in failure. That doesn't alter the fact that women want a solution for beauty below the waist — and it looks like Revelle Aesthetics CEO Caro Van Hove has an answer in the Avéli cellulite reduction device.Revelle maintains that "Avéli delivers a long-term reduction in the appearance of cellulite in the buttocks and thighs for a wide variety of women, covering the full spectrum of cellulite complexity."In what amounts to an effective one-time treatment for cellulite, the procedure is minimally invasive and can be performed by mid-level providers as a standalone treatment or by surgical providers in combination with other procedures.Get a sneak peek at the "exciting ideas" Caro and her team of engineers are working on, and watch Dr. Grant Stevens demonstrate the Avéli device itself, all on the latest episode of The Technology of Beauty.» Apple Podcasts | https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/technology-of-beauty/id1510898426» Spotify | https://open.spotify.com/show/0hEIiwccpZUUHuMhlyCOAm» Recent episodes | https://www.influxmarketing.com/technology-of-beauty/» Instagram | https://www.instagram.com/thetechnologyofbeauty/» LinkedIn | https://www.linkedin.com/company/the-technology-of-beauty/The Technology of Beauty is produced by Influx Marketing, The Digital Agency for Aesthetic Practices. https://www.influxmarketing.com/Want more aesthetic insights? “Death used to be an executioner, but the gospel has made him a gardener.” – George Herbert It's the thing no one wants to talk about, but what every human will eventually face. Despite our best medical advances and enjoyable distractions, death is inescapable. But two thousand years ago, as he comforted a beloved friend whose home had been visited by death, Jesus Christ proclaimed: “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”In this special Easter message, Nussbaum Chaplain Jim Revelle helps us face the taboo topic of death – not with resolve or human courage, but through faith in the power of Jesus' death and resurrection. Far from being the end, Jim reminds us that death for followers of Jesus is actually the door to real, eternal life. The question is, will we believe? René Mõttus talks to Bill Revelle and Bob Hogan who are well respected personality researchers in the field. They argue that the main use of personality research is to predict what real people do in the real world. Yet, much of academic psychology has not taken this seriously, focusing on abstract ideas and models with little real-world relevance. They discuss why useful personality assessment is not about complex statistics or even measuring traits, but simply adding up questions that best predict important outcomes. They also discuss why we should stop believing in Easter Bunnies, how to reassess your work after forty years, and how to build a successful global company. And many other things.

Join me for a fun-filled interview with my friend and fellow debut author, Lyssa Mia Smith, whose novel, REVELLE, came out last month. Described as MOULIN ROUGE meets THE GREAT GATSBY, it's one the fantasy-romance fans amongst you don't want to miss. Much like my novel, NIGHTBIRDS, it takes a lot of inspiration from history, and I loved this chat about magic, courtesans, and all the ways we used elements of Prohibition and the 1920s to craft our fantastical stories. NIGHTBIRDS and REVELLE are both available now, wherever good books (or audiobooks) are sold! You can find out more about Lyssa at her website and more about NIGHTBIRDS at my author website.
