If Ferris Bueller takes us on a tour of the fun and glamorous side of Chicago, Chris Parker and company show us it's dark underbelly, while still maintaining the comedy and silliness that 80's teen flicks are known for. Whether you are wondering if you should spike your Tab with Drano, nurture your crush on Thor, or if maybe you could sell Daryl, just remember: “Nobody leaves this place without singin' the blues!”Today's root beer is Anchor with Ginger.Intro and Outro music by Stockmusic331 on Pond5Send us a text
On a very special episode, our 100th, Jaime, Pax and Shawn finally tackle a all time favorite film, 1987's Adventures in Babysitting!
Send us a textIn this episode, we journey through our babysitting adventures from both sides of the childcare equation. Remember when fifth graders could watch four kids including a 10-month-old baby? We were those fearless young sitters, navigating responsibilities far beyond our years without cell phones or emergency protocols – just a house phone and an address scribbled on a notepad.Fast forward to today, where national babysitting rates hover around $25 per hour and parents expect a level of professionalism that would have been unimaginable in our early babysitting days. We share hilarious and sometimes terrifying stories from our years watching other people's children – from catching teenagers sneaking out to bars to traveling internationally with employer families as their dedicated childcare provider. The conversation reveals universal truths about what makes exceptional childcare: the sitters who play enthusiastically instead of just supervising, who clean up messes instead of creating them, and who follow house rules while still making the experience special for the kids. We explore the creative childcare solutions that have emerged over the years, from in-home daycares that follow teacher schedules to school-based programs designed to retain talented educators.Whether you're an exhausted parent desperate for a night out, a teenager looking to earn some spending money, or just someone who remembers the joy of having a babysitter who let you eat pizza in the living room (and then vacuumed the evidence before your parents got home), this episode celebrates the often under appreciated network of care that makes modern family life possible. What's your favorite babysitting memory? Share it with us – we'd love to hear your stories!Mike Haggerty Buick GMCRight on the corner, right on the price! That's right, it's Adventures in Babysitting, the feature film debut of Chris Columbus, co-starring Keith Coogan, Anthony Rapp, Maia Brewton, Ron Canada, George Newbern, and Vincent D'Onofrio.

Hello Listeners! This week Chelsea gives us the history of the Easy Bake Oven and then Shay takes us through the early 2000s with a list of some of the most iconic moments, albeit with many tangents.
Don't [expletive] with the babysitter! The 1987 flick, Adventures in Babysitting, was an action-packed comedy filled with quotable quotes, car chases, and even a couple of f-bombs. A then 22-year-old Elizabeth Shue danced, ran, and sang the blues, launching the movie into cult-classic status. But now, decades later, does it all feel like a chore? Should Shue's “Chris” have called it quits two hours earlier? And just how popular was that issue of Playboy magazine? The Old Roommates take their pop culture car into the shop and give the Chris Columbus debut a revisit through their middle-aged lens. Listen to this. Old Roommates can be reached via email at oldroommatespod@gmail.com. Send us a textBerly and LA recap the season seven Supernatural episode, Adventures in Babysitting. Over drinks, they'll discuss lore, gore, and what they adore about the Winchesters and their adventures. Now, let's get tipsy! CW/TW for violent and lewd commentary; listeners beware!
We were shocked to discover that 1987's Adventures in Babysitting doesn't have a DVD or Blu Ray audio commentary. After interviewing screenwriter David Simkins in 2022, we asked if he would be willing to record an audio commentary for Adventures in Babysitting and, to our delight, he agreed to do it. In typical NWPP fashion, the recording didn't go exactly as planned. At roughly 6 minutes into the movie, the audio of the film can be heard during the commentary. We've done our best to reduce the film's audio track but it was impossible to totally remove it. We recommend turning the audio down on your TV or device, and let our audio take over. One other call out, we recorded the audio commentary watching the PG-13 version of the movie not the one on Disney+. Enough with the caveats. David shares funny and insightful behind-the-scenes stories and talks about how the movie came together including working with Debra Hill and Lynda Obst. We discuss the challenges of shooting both in Chicago and Canada. David talks about how the famous blues bar scene came together, casting Elizabeth Shue, working with Chris Columbus and how Sara's obsession with Thor came to be. It's We believe this is the only audio commentary available for Adventures in Babysitting. We can't thank David Simkins enough for agreeing to do this with us. We hope you enjoy.

In this episode, Anna and Derek chat about the "dangerous city" mythos, the oceans apart between 15 years old and 17 years old, and much more during their discussion of the Chris Columbus flick Adventures in Babysitting (1987). Connect with '80s Movie Montage on Facebook, Twitter/X or Instagram! It's the same handle for all three... @80smontagepod.Anna Keizer and Derek Dehanke are the co-hosts of ‘80s Movie Montage. The idea for the podcast came when they realized just how much they talk – a lot – when watching films from their favorite cinematic era. Their wedding theme was “a light nod to the ‘80s,” so there's that, too. Both hail from the Midwest but have called Los Angeles home for several years now. Anna is a writer who received her B.A. in Film/Video from Columbia College Chicago and M.A. in Film Studies from Chapman University. Her dark comedy short She Had It Coming was an Official Selection of 25 film festivals with several awards won for it among them. Derek is an attorney who also likes movies. It is a point of pride that most of their podcast episodes are longer than the movies they cover.

Sam and Dean each try to cope with Bobby's death and honor him in their own way-- Sam by helping a young girl asking for Bobby's assistance, and Dean by obsessively trying to decode the numbers Bobby died to give them. It's all not particularly healthy, but they all learn something by the end. Sam learns that Vetalas usually hunt in pairs, and Dean learns that if he doesn't want to quit, to walk away from hunting entirely, he should convince himself he'll be fine until the end of the week and then paste on a smile and be a professional. Thanks for that helpful advice, Frank! Have I mentioned I kinda love that guy? I mean... the advice itself is kinda horrifying, but it reveals new hidden depths in Frank. Plus we meet Krissy and her dad, who I always wish had been truly able to free themselves from hunting. But this is Supernatural, so you know how that goes... LINKS! This 80s flick is a shining example of teenage adventures and unexpected chaos. This lively comedy about growing up invites us to revisit the wild night that forever changed the lives of a suburban babysitter and her diverse group of charges. The clever dialogue, surprising plot twists, and memorable characters make it a timeless favorite for those who grew up in the '80s. It reminds us that sometimes the most unforgettable nights are the unplanned ones, where the ordinary transforms into the extraordinary, and friendships are forged in the midst of unexpected adventures. So jump into the station wagon, grab your plastic Thor hammer, and get ready to sing the blues as Tim Williams and guest cohost, Bethany Wells, discuss “Adventures in Babysitting” from 1987 on this episode of the 80s Flick Flashback Podcast. Here are some additional behind-the-scenes trivia we were unable to cover in this episode: For his directorial debut, Columbus said he reviewed 100 scripts. He chose Adventures in Babysitting because he felt comfortable with its scale. The tow truck driver hits a lawn jockey after reaching his house. Knocking over lawn jockeys later became a running joke in Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York also directed by Chris Columbus. The two rival gangs on the El Train challenge each other to a fight when the train crosses "Devereux" street, an in-joke towards director Chris Columbus' wife Monica Devereux, and father-in-law Clarke Devereux who both appear in the movie. Join mega nerds Dre Alvarez and Jeff May as they geek out on a different nerdy cultural touchstone every month. Part reminiscence, part historical deep dive. The 15th episode of NERD! has Dre and Jeff continue their season on Cinematic Child Neglect (fun!) with Adventures in Babysitting, the mid-80's classic about Elizabeth Shue and maybe some other stuff, but mostly Elizabeth Shue. Yikes. There's a lot to unpack about this stacked piece of vintage nostalgia, so let's run away to the bus station, chop-shoplift a Playboy, and not [fool] with the Lords of Hell, as we dive deep into Adventures in Babysitting, celebrating my birthday, keeping our second year of the show moving full steam ahead! And don't forget to follow Dre (@nerdnumbers) Jeff (@heytherejeffro) on the socials and have a nerdy day!
