Vermont has committed to cutting its greenhouse gas emissions 40 percent from 1990 levels by 2030, and to meeting 90 percent of its energy needs with renewable sources by 2050. Are these energy goals a pipe dream, or are they within reach? The answer depends on where you live. The city of Burlington now gets all of its power from renewable generation. And as President Biden struggles to get a national clean energy infrastructure plan passed, Burlington residents will soon vote on an energy bond that is aimed at making Burlington the first city in the country to be netzero in energy use.The Vermont Conversation is joined by Darren Springer, general manager of Burlington Electric Department, and Peter Sterling, interim executive director of Renewable Energy Vermont, to get a snapshot of where Vermont is now on its green energy quest.“Burlington is on the leading edge in the country,” says Springer of Burlington's energy future. “We're taking an all-in approach to try to reach a reduction and eventual elimination of fossil fuel use in the [heating and ground transportation] sectors.”

Darren Springer is an expert on Pan African and African Diaspora legacies and traditions, especially when it comes to their initiatory and ceremonial rites.Darren travels the globe providing insight into the legacy of mushroom use and other entheogenic technologies in Sub-Saharan and Kemetic Africa, Kemet being the native name of Ancient Egypt. This collective tradition of ritualized psychedelic use and advanced technology in ancient Pan African society is fundamental to the human race yet largely overlooked by conventional scholars and historians for reasons Darren will elaborate on in this episode - Ancient African entheogenic traditions are the well from which Abrahamic religion has drawn it’s own mythology and sacramental practices - the mysteries of Isis in ancient Kemet are the basis for the Eulysinian mysteries of the Greco-roman world, in which a Eucharist is consumed to facilitate communion with the divine - Sound familiar? We’re also going to touch base about the equity gap in psychedelics and how mushrooms and psychedelic experiences can serve as a lens through which to examine the wounds of colonization and to marshal a collective response to historical injustices and the extraction-oriented , violence-plagued state of the modern world. Darren is part of the Breaking Convention committee and works closely with Funzing, organising thought provoking talks and workshops around the subjects of Mushroom cultivation, psychedelic experiences and unearthing ancient buried knowledge from African-Caribbean history, culture and spirituality.During this episode Darren and I discuss how we connected many years ago through a mutual love of art. Darren Springer is one of the producers of the weekly comedy show Ossington Comedy. His humor writing has appeared in CBC Comedy, The Beaverton, and Splitsider. He is also the host of the upcoming standup show I Own 12 Hot Tubs, happening Tuesday April 23 at 8 PM at Comedy Bar.
May 31st, 2016. This week I (@timfmmcdonald) went Back To Degrassi with Nick Martinello (@MartinelloJokes) and Darren Springer (@flintbeverage). We had a blast talking about this episode where Rick joins the Environmental Action Committee as a "smokescreeen" for his crush on Caitlin. Yik also tells a very dark story of his journey to Canada, involving brushes with death. Caitlin also does an amazing rap, Arthur is real dorky, Kathleen is a bitch, and Susie's uncle is apparently an astronaut.
In this (on-location) interview, Darren Springer talks about the ancient history of pan-African psychedelic use and travels forwards through time along the wings of mythology until the myths dissolve into the harsh reality of slavery, racism, and neighbourhoods infused with violence. It is grounded in this reality that Darren shares with us the potential of psychedelics (psilocybin mushrooms in particular) for the healing of historical trauma and the revitalization of black communities in the UK. ***See Below for full episode breakdown Head to http://bit.ly/ATTMind91 for video full blog entry, complete show notes, and relevant links. In a very special episode of Radio Free Riverdale, Lucy, Evan, and a special guest – comedian, and podcaster Darren Springer – stare deep into the abyss that is the 1990 TV movie, Archie: To Riverdale and Back Again. Archies Pals 'n' Gals are in their mid-thirties, back in town for a high school reunion, and they're all so very sad. Not only are they dealing with troubled relationships and failed ambitions, but also facing a new world of luxury cars, portable phones, and hip-hop music that seems to have no patience of memories and "good times." We witnessed it all – the horror and the heartbreak – so you don't have to. And somehow, we managed to record a podcast longer in duration than the actual TV movie (!). Tune in, if you dare, for conversations on: why and how this early '90s nostalgia-fest was created who is more famous: Lauren Holly or a Reba co-star? Archie Andrews's shaky grasp of the legal system the intersections of Pop's Chocolate Shop and Tiananmen Square and the cinematic triumph of Jughead Jones rapping "Sugar Sugar" to bond with his terrible, terrible son All this and more in Episode 21 of Radio Free Riverdale, if you'd be so kind to let us lay our ever-lovin' stuff on you.
