La importancia del avance de la ciencia en esta época, de una forma muy parecida a los grandes filósofos griegos del mundo antiguo, consistió en que unos pocos nombres fueron capaces de razonar y ver el mundo de forma distinta a la regla establecida, para llegar a nuevas verdades que mediante la observación y la razón expulsaron a teorías en vigor apoyadas únicamente en creencias. La Iglesia, Aristóteles y Ptolomeo dejaron de ser el patrón con el que medirse en física, y curiosamente de forma principal en astronomía, quizás el campo de batalla más reñido que hubo en la época. La entrega de hoy se va a centrar en dos siglos de la historia estrictamente europea, los años que van de 1450 a 1650. En ellos dio tiempo para conocer un nuevo ritmo de difusión de la cultura a través de la imprenta de tipos móviles de Gutenberg, que ayudó a avivar un fuego de cambios religiosos en gran parte de Europa: la reforma protestante, con Lutero y Calvino, por un lado, y la iglesia anglicana, por otro. Los cambios de fe alimentaron las guerras de religión, con reyes españoles por delante, dispuestos a gastarse hasta la última onza de plata que obtenían de América para convertir a estos monarcas en adalides de un concepto con un nombre feísimo: “la contrarreforma”. La consecuencia de éste y otros errores convirtieron al país en el furgón de cola de una Europa occidental que se estaba preparando para el desarrollo.
