Roxanne Howe-Murphy, EdD is a best-selling author, pioneering thought leader, and teacher. Growing up on a small farm in the Midwest, the vast dark skies and millions of stars not only awed her, but helped inspire her curiosity from a young age as to her place in the universe. A thread that Roxanne has carried through life is her capacity for recognizing the potential that lives within us all, and exploring interconnections that were not often visible to others at the time.Dr. Howe-Murphy served on the faculty of universities on both coasts, and co-wrote her first book that challenged predominant thinking and practices affecting individuals with disabilities. She was a pioneer in integrating the worlds of the Enneagram and coaching, authoring one of the first books of its kind, Deep Coaching: Using the Enneagram As a Catalyst for Profound Change (2007; 2nd edition, 2022). Internationally published, she is the author of the Amazon #1 International Best-seller and multi-award-winning book in the body/mind/spirit field, Deep Living with the Enneagram: Recovering Your True Nature (ed and revised, 2020). Her most recent book is Underneath Your Personality: Discover Greater-Well-being through Deep Living with the Enneagram (2024). Roxanne founded an Enneagram coaching school and served as senior faculty until 2022. She co-founded and is board emeritus of the Deep Living Lab, a social impact nonprofit. She teaches internationally and has been a frequent presenter at International Enneagram Association conferences since 2011. http://www.roxannehowemurphy.com/ www.deeplivinglab.org LI: https://www.linkedin.com/in/roxannehowemurphyedd/ FB: https://www.facebook.com/RHoweMurphy About The Flare Up Show Find Chrissy Cordingley at https://www.risethrive.ca Follow the Flare Up Show on Instagram Join the Rise and Thrive Wholeness Community on Facebook Welcome to The Flare Up Show with Chrissy Cordingley. How can we work with our Enneagram type to free ourselves from unconscious restrictions and patterns in relationship to money? Enneagram teacher and author of the book The Flourish Formula, Courtney Pinkerton, shares more. We also talk about how Human Design and the Enneagram have some overlapping qualities and how we can use both to reveal better ways of living together as human beings and healing our money traumas. Favorite quote: "The Enneagram doesn't put you in a box, it shows you the box you're already in...It's the pathway to freedom outside of these unconscious constrictions, rather than the other way around" Resources mentioned: The Flourish Formula (book by Courtney Pinkerton). Surrender is a scary word – it's not one we do naturally. But when it comes to life with Jesus, the more we surrender, the more blessing we experience. It all starts with the active choice to put our faith in Jesus as Lord. When we surrender, we see the power and grace that comes with His way.
Loving God and loving people are equally important in the words of Jesus. We can't have one without the other. Today we dive into what Jesus meant when he told us to "love others as ourselves" – especially as it is coequal with loving God with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength. The bond between the two shows us what this kind of love looks like in the kingdom.
"The Church is built for deep waters." Our faith has the ability to be deepened and strengthened, but how do we do that? Today, we talk about a key step: learning to live with Kingdom priorities. How does God want us to live? When we can answer that question, we take a powerful step into deeper living!
No one has it figured out. Forget a five-year plan, no one knows for certain what will happen in the next five minutes. How do you live in the uncertainty, trusting the Creator of the waters to guide you, and keeping an open mind to the wonder of His creation and the possibilities of the future?Follow Alyssa:alyssawrote.com | Twitter | Instagram | FacebookEpisode Image Credit: Getty/doit Discover more Christian podcasts at lifeaudio.com and inquire about advertising opportunities at lifeaudio.com/contact-us.

You like many others may have felt the territory of the heart to be confusing, filled with questions and doubts. There is a wide range of experiences, ideas, beliefs and fears associated with the heart that unconsciously tend to lead us away from our authentic heart. These are among the issues that greet all spiritual seekers. Extraordinary times of great change and difficulty, similar to today's grand shifts, have revealed rich ground that spurred the arising of a new consciousness and wisdom. No longer the domain of a few chosen people, all of us are being urged into a new level of relationship to this powerful center of inner truth, compassion, and connection. What are some of the ways we are granted access into the depths of our heart? In this conversation, Guest, Dr. Roxanne Howe-Murphy, author of Deep Living with the Enneagram: Recovering Your True Nature and integrative psychological-spiritual teacher, will describe four levels of heart consciousness and share processes that allow for moving from constriction to expansion and being in deeper contact with our authentic heart.

Can you see the invitation? These extraordinary times are quickening the impulse to advance our innate, evolutionary capacities which support the recovery and expression of our full and true nature. Our individual and collective shift to awakened wholeness is needed during these transitions. Personal presence-that is, the freedom from the compulsions of our automatic nature and direct contact with our inner centers of intelligence -provides access to more of who we are and to the richness and immediacy of life. A presence-based approach to the Enneagram profoundly illuminates our highest gifts as well as the familiar personality patterns that distance us from our deepest self. Our focus will be on how we can use the Enneagram as a vehicle for healing, embracing our whole nature, and allowing our highest gifts to be revealed. Learn why Guest, Dr. Roxanne Howe-Murphy, author of Deep Living with the Enneagram: Recovering Your True Nature, calls the Enneagram A Map of Love.

In today's episode, I speak with a dear friend, Lâle Davidson. Lâle is an author of fiction and nonfiction, and a Distinguished Professor at SUNY Adirondack where she teaches fiction writing, public speaking and composition. Her stories have appeared in The North American Review, Eclectica, Big Lucks, and The Collagist, among others. Her story “The Opal Maker” was named top fifty of 2015 by Wigleaf, and her fiction chapbook, Strange Appetites won the Adirondack Center for Writing People’s Choice Award in 2016. I visited her in her home in Saratoga Springs to see the final performance of her latest work, Uprising, a play about the Polish resistance to Nazi occupation in WWII. Lâle wrote Uprising in collaboration with two teenagers, Catie LeCours, and Grace Alberti, who also directed. My wife, Wendy and Lâle went to Oberlin together, and I’ve known Lâle and her husband Charley Brown and daughter Tess Davidson-Brown for close to 20 years. We often discuss writing, spirituality, and politics and this week Lâle and I are sharing one of our chats with you. I hope you enjoy it! You can find out more about Lâle and find her writing at laledavidson.com, and you can view her editorial column at http://blog.timesunion.com/laledavidson/. In our last +1 we talked about Isaac Newton and his First Law of Motion. Recall the basics: An object at rest will stay at rest. An object in motion will stay in motion. Today I’d like to look at the fine print of that Law. Let’s dust it off and read the whole thing again. *unfurls parchment* “An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by some outside force.” Oh! We missed the last part in our last +1. “… an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by some outside force.” So, for example, if I start doing some Deep Living (whether that’s Working or Connecting), I’ll keep on doing some Deep Living UNLESS I’m “acted upon by some outside force.” What outside force could possibly act upon me? Hmmm… Maybe a push notification? Or an email alert? Or simply having your smartphone in sight? (Hah.) This is why, if we really want to take advantage of the power of Newton’s First Law, we need to put ourselves in a Deep Living bubble, remove all the potential “outside forces” that’ll kill our momentum, and go Deep! Today’s +1. Make Newton proud. Let’s create some distraction-free momentum.

In this episode, I am live from Stockholm, where I speak with fellow ISHTA Yogiraj, writer/editor, creative coach, and educator Ulrica Norberg. Ulrica and I talk about what it means to bring yoga into the way that we live in the world. We cover that topic from a few perspectives, including the balance between work and personal time, how we tackle new challenges, and whether it's possible to follow the advice of the Bhagavad Gita to act without attachment to the outcome. We mention a couple yoga concepts: The Gunas. Three forces of nature that create the action of the universe: rajas, activity; tamas, withdrawing; and sattva, balance The Doshas. Three types of person, dominated by different elemental forces: Vata, ruled by air; Pitta, ruled by fire; Kapha, ruled by earth. Ulrica also uses the phrase "I-ness versus me-ness," an idea from art criticism regarding subject versus object, or pure experience as opposed to evaluating me who is experiencing. We mention Alan Finger, our teacher at ISHTA Yoga and Yogobe, a Scandinavian source for online yoga classes. If you’re planning to be in Europe in August, I’m teaching a workshop in Berlin on August 7 and two in Helsinki on August 4 and 11. You can always find out about what I'm doing on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. If you like this podcast, please support me on Patreon. This allows me to avoid making you listen to advertisements to fund the project, which I think is nicer for both of us. Thanks for listening!
Today’s guest is Wendy Newton. She is a yogiraj, or master of ISHTA yoga and a practitioner of Polarity Therapy, a yoga-based wellness system developed by Randolph Stone. She’s also my wife! Today we invite you into our morning breakfast conversation, which is always about yoga and life. We broach the topic of deep living, which is one of the areas I want to explore via this podcast. We talk about living the way — like the Tao — of yoga, the challenges of dealing with political realities, and how deep living comes from deep study and consistent practice. We also touch on teachers and on ISHTA Yoga, and our comprehensive yoga study there with our teacher Alan Finger. I decided not to interrupt my podcast with advertisements, so if you like it, please support it on Patreon, a wonderful artist-funding web community. You can support the podcast at any level you like. Various levels will soon get you cool rewards, like questions on the podcast, a decal of me as a motorcycling meditator, and a temporary tattoo of Like Happiness, but More Permanent.
