Read transcriptLook, at some point you have to respect the audacity of putting the entire Justice League on a Game Boy Advance cartridge. Not one hero. Not two heroes doing a buddy-cop thing. The whole league. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the works. All crammed onto a handheld that also had to share shelf space with Hamtaro games. That's ambition. That's vision. That might also be a cry for help, but we're not here to judge. Justice League Chronicles was Ubisoft's love letter to the animated series, which means it had genuinely great source material to pull from and a screen roughly the size of a Post-it note to work with. The Justice League animated series was the kind of show that made you sit down and watch it with your kids because it was actually that good, and somehow that energy had to survive the trip to a device that ran on two AA batteries. Here to help make sense of it all is Doug Adamson from The Monitor Tapes, a man whose podcast is literally named after the thing the Justice League uses to watch for trouble. Which means he was cosmically destined to appear on this episode whether he wanted to or not. So pull up a chair in the Watchtower, try not to touch anything that looks important, and let's talk about a DC animated tie-in that had no business being as earnest as it was. Learn such things as: Does it really matter if you end up fighting against someone else's villains? Does it really matter if you can't pick how you're going to pair off the League members? Does anything really matter when you're getting to play one of the best cartoons ever made? And so much more! You can find Doug on BlueSky @themonitortapes.com, Threads @themonitortapes (although it might actually be DC Dave running those, I don't know), his podcast The Monitor Tapes, and whatever else they decide to release over on Brick Crisis Network. Kim Hodous Talks About Happiness in Spite of Grief Our guest today is Kim Hodous, who is with us for the third time. Kim has lost two children, tragically, and yet she is a happiness expert! She is a simply indomitable woman. First, she lost her two-year-old daughter, Chelsea, to leukemia, when Kim was a young mother, just thirty-one years old, and with four children under the age of five. And Kim had dealt pretty well with Chelsea's death, by writing four books and spending a beautiful 15-year career as “The Happiness Speaker”, teaching companies how best to have happy employees. But she also tells us that she didn't have the luxury of having those little children to raise in 2022, when her 29-year-old son, Rob, died of a drug overdose, because all her children were grown up by then, and out of the house, in 2022. Fortunately, though, soon after Rob died, within just a few months, Kim discovered The Grief Recovery Method. And wow, you have got to say, this is one resourceful woman! Kim got herself certified in The Grief Recovery Method, and she began to deal with her own grief by helping other mothers deal with suffering the grief of the loss of a child. Kim's son, Rob, soon began to come through to her then, and he has taught her how to connect with him in a very special way, so now she is able to teach other mothers how to connect with their children in that same lovely way. Kim Hodous is literally a beacon of hope and joy! And now she is with us for the third time, to share that hope and joy amid grief with us. Kim's website is www.kimhodous.com. Vaccines are one of the most emotionally charged topics in modern health conversations, but what if we approached them with curiosity instead of fear, critical thinking instead of censorship, and informed consent instead of blind compliance? In this powerful and thought-provoking episode of the Body Wisdom Podcast, Jamie Belz, FNTP, MHC, sits down with Zoe O'Toole — writer, editor, health freedom advocate, and publisher liaison for Children's Health Defense — to explore one of the most controversial conversations of our time. Alongside Mary Holland, Zoe co-edited the anonymously written, groundbreaking book Turtles All the Way Down: Vaccine Science and Myth, a comprehensive compilation of "mainstream studies" from traditionally pro-vaccine sources, a thorough examination of vaccine research, and the narratives surrounding this vast topic. Together, Jamie and Zoe discuss personal experiences that challenged their own assumptions, the importance of bio-individuality in healthcare decisions, and why asking questions is perhaps the most critical first step in personal health advocacy. Whether you're a parent making decisions for your children, someone navigating vaccine injury within your family, or simply seeking a more nuanced understanding of the vaccine debate, this episode invites you to think critically, listen deeply, and advocate courageously. Some discussion points covered: • Zoe's journey into vaccine research and health advocacy • Jamie's family's experience following the HPV (Gardasil) vaccine • The concept of bio-individuality and why one-size-fits-all medicine falls short • The history of the 1986 National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act and the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program • The composition of Turtles All the Way Down • Concerns surrounding vaccine safety, liability protections, and informed consent • The role of pharmaceutical influence in media, research, and public health policy • Why conversations around vaccines often become polarized • Vaccine exemptions: medical, religious, and philosophical considerations • How parents can become empowered health advocates without fear or shame • The importance of courage, curiosity, and asking better questions At its core, this episode isn't about telling you what to think. It's about encouraging you to think for yourself. As Jamie shares, "It's not about being anti-anything. It's about being a pro-informed consumer." If you've ever felt uncomfortable asking questions about vaccines, uncertain about the recommendations presented to your family, or frustrated by the lack of nuanced dialogue in today's culture, this conversation is for you. Read transcriptThe year was 2006. The Game Boy Advance was winding down, the Justice League animated series had wrapped up, and someone at WayForward Technologies looked at a tiny handheld screen and said, “You know what this needs? The Flash. Running very fast. On a cartridge the size of a business card.” And honestly? Bold decision. Justice League Heroes: The Flash took the Game Boy Advance, the beloved animated series, and a Justice League comic run and asked the eternal question: how many Rogues can you stuff into a handheld beat-em-up before the whole thing starts wobbling? This episode, we're finding out. We're covering the comics, the game, the cartoon connections, and whether Barry Allen or Wally West gets more respect in a world that keeps giving them both the speed force and zero chill. Joining us to run this whole thing down is Marrilee O'Neil from Fear Coded, who brings exactly the right energy for a conversation about a game that moves fast and expects you to keep up. So strap in, try not to blink, and let's do this before the Flash gets impatient and reruns the episode himself. Learn such things as: Why couldn't this have just been part of Justice League Heroes? What is the best way to experience time manipulation? Does it really matter if you get to play as Wally or Barry here? And so much more! The video centers on the enduring power of the Gospel as exemplified by historical figures whose unwavering commitment to Christ transcended theological differences and societal opposition. It emphasizes that true evangelistic passion is rooted not merely in doctrinal knowledge but in a personal, transformative experience of God's Spirit, which assures believers of their eternal belonging. This inner conviction—grounded in Scripture and the witness of the Holy Spirit—motivated fearless proclamation despite criticism, persecution, and personal cost. The message underscores the infinite value of every soul, affirming that eternity outweighs temporal sacrifice, and calls modern believers to emulate this faithfulness with hope and perseverance. Ultimately, the sermon invites listeners to carry forward this eternal perspective, trusting in God's presence as the ultimate assurance in life's journey.

This episode is equal parts gut punch and practical toolkit, built for people who are tired of being told to just stay positive.More info, resources & ways to connect - https://www.tacosfallapart.com/podcast-live-show/podcast-guests/dan-macqueenDan MacQueen was 28 years old when an optometrist appointment changed everything. What started as persistent headaches and a terrifying moment of blindness on a London tube platform ended with an emergency brain surgery, a massive hemorrhage, four weeks in a coma and months of relearning how to walk, talk and smile. In this episode of Even Tacos Fall Apart, Dan sits down to talk about what it really took to rebuild his life and the framework he now uses to help others do the same.Dan is quick to point out that he is not some extraordinary person. His brain scans came back average after two emergency surgeries, and he took that as a good sign. His whole approach to recovery and resilience is built on the idea that anyone can do this. You do not need to be exceptional. You need to be willing to try, fail, and try again.A huge part of how Dan made it through was gamifying his recovery. From timing how long it took to get into a wheelchair and shaving five minutes off each week, to tracking his swim laps in a notes app going back years, he turned the grind of rehab into something he could measure, compete against and win. He talks about the Monopoly strategy he pulled on his family, the icebreaker hack he developed for walking through crowded London streets and how Mario Kart taught him more about navigating life patterns than he expected.Dan also gets into the three things that drove him forward: proving people wrong, proving people right and being of service to others. His nurse planted the seed of that first one when she pointed across a park and told him the kids over there did not think he was good enough to talk. He yelled back across that park loud enough for everyone to hear. Spite works. So does love. Ride whatever wave shows up.One of the most practical tools Dan shares is his decision-a-day framework. Every morning you decide that today you are going to fight. Tomorrow you decide again. You do not have to commit to the whole mountain, just the next step. Pair that with his aim small, miss small approach to building habits and you have a system that is genuinely hard to argue with. He went from two minutes of morning meditation to twenty. One block of walking to a full route. Five minutes in the pool to over a hundred laps. This episode covers traumatic brain injury recovery, stoicism, gamification, resilience, motivation and what it actually means to be better than yesterday. Dan is still in the thick of it, still having eye surgeries, still stumbling through the back streets, and still showing up. That is exactly what makes this conversation worth your time.

Read transcriptAt some point in the early 2000s, someone looked at the Dragon Ball Z manga and anime, a story full of screaming men who power up for entire episodes, hair that defies physics, and villains who monologue long enough for the protagonist to reach a new power level, and said, “Yes. This. But make it a fighting game. On two, and only two, consoles.” And thus, Dragon Ball Z Budokai 2 arrived on PS2 and GameCube, ready to let you spend an unreasonable amount of time unlocking characters and pretending you know what a Fusion Dance is supposed to look like in real life. This episode, we're going Super Saiyan on the whole thing. The game, the manga, the anime, the drama, the capsules, the questionable story mode decisions. All of it. And joining us to power up the conversation is Russell Moran from Kaiju ComiCast, who brings exactly the kind of kaiju-sized enthusiasm this franchise demands. So take a deep breath, squeeze out every last drop of ki you've got, and let's get into it. Your hair may or may not turn gold by the end. No promises. Learn such things as: What's worse than taking a risk and totally failing? What's keeping us from getting the epic Toriyama Universe fighting crossover event that we all want to badly? Can you really say that the roster has 50 different characters when 10 of them are different versions of the same dude? And so much more! Read transcriptIf you've ever wondered what would happen if professional wrestling, superhero nonsense, and a generous helping of “did they really just do that?” collided in a PS2-era video game, congratulations you've found your people. This episode dives headfirst into Galactic Wrestling Featuring Ultimate Muscle, a game that asks the important questions, like how many absurdly named wrestlers can fit into one ring and whether flexing harder is a legitimate combat strategy (it is). Along the way, we're joined by Josh “Anoriand” Fagundes. Yes, that Anoriand from Twitch. He brings his streaming-honed wisdom and an appreciation for delightful chaos. Between the manga roots, anime flair, and a game that absolutely commits to the bit, there's plenty to grapple with here. So lace up your boots, oil up your… everything, and get ready for a match that's less about winning and more about how spectacularly weird the journey can get. Learn such things as: How do you make a sequel to a game and not have it on the same console? What happens when the humor and moral values of such different societies don't really match up? Does this game have anything surprisingly good in it, and does it even matter if it does? And so much more! Ep. 206 - Kimberly sits down with multi-time tech entrepreneur André Swanston on the historic launch day of his groundbreaking cloud gaming platform, PHYND. Fresh off a massive nine-figure exit from his previous venture, True Optik, André is on a mission to completely democratize how we play video games on the big screen. In partnership with Samsung, PHYND is removing the heavy financial barrier of gaming by eliminating the need for expensive consoles and dedicated controllers—making high-quality gaming completely free and accessible right through your smart TV. André pulls back the curtain on the realities of entrepreneurship, including the gritty truths of raising capital as a minority founder, how being "pissed off" can be a powerful tool for motivation, and why failure is only finite if you refuse to quit. We also dive into his venture into professional sports as the founder of Connecticut United FC, and how he models a relentless work ethic for his children. Comic Book Chronicles Ep. 592: Focus Up, Calderu! - Agent_70 is back this week after his adventures at NYCC 2024...but the guys won't be talking about that until Next week's show! We will get his impressions of the Attack on Titan musical
Read transcriptSomewhere in the mid-2000s, a group of developers looked at the Justice League and said, “What if we made a game where all your favorite heroes team up… and then we just kinda vibed with that idea instead of sticking to any specific comic storyline?” Which kind of works actually because they got Dwayne McDuffie to write it but that's not the point. So anyway, Justice League Heroes burst onto the scene for PS2, Xbox, PSP, and Nintendo DS like a Watchtower alarm that nobody remembers installing. This week on Play Comics, we grab our capes, charge up our vaguely canon-adjacent superpowers, and dive into a game that absolutely has Batman, Superman, and friends… ummm, friends are definitely there I promise and sometimes they have to be there because of contractual obligations. And sometimes even the best version of those friends if you're lucky and the best version of that hero had been invented already. Joining the adventure is Gavin Mevius from The Mixed Reviews and The Q Division, bringing along just the right blend of insight, chaos, and “wait, was that ever a comic plot?” energy to help us make sense of it all. So get ready for teamwork, button mashing, and a Justice League game that is just kind of meh, especially considering the story that it had to work with. Learn such things as: When you can have Justice League adventures without Batman or Superman Why you don't need a 100% comic plot line to have a good comic plot line. What the world was like before micro transactions got involved with everything And so much more! You can find Gavin on BlueSky @shhhitsgavin, Instagram @gavinmev, and of course on his podcasts The Mixed Reviews (a monthly film review show taking a deep dive into a subject, actor, director, or something else along those lines) and The Q Division (a monthly deep dive into James Bond). Episode SummaryThis week on Home In Progress, Dan starts off with one of the more entertaining detours the show has taken in a while: spite houses. Real buildings, built by real people, for the sole purpose of making someone else miserable. Then he gets into a deep dive on two-tone kitchen cabinets, answering six questions that almost always come up when people consider taking on that project. And he closes out with deck season, including why most product claims about longevity don't hold up in Michigan, and why RepcoLite's Deck and Dock Wood Protector works differently than most of what's out there. In This Episode[00:00] -- Show Preview[00:54] -- Spite Houses: When Homebuilding Gets Personal[15:26] -- Two-Tone Kitchen Cabinets: Six Common Questions Answered[41:25] -- Deck Season: What You Need to Know Right NowSegment 1: Spite Houses -- When Homebuilding Gets Personal [00:54]Most people who've had a bad run-in with a neighbor or a family member haven't responded by constructing an entire building. But spite houses are real, they show up throughout American history, and they're exactly what they sound like: buildings put up primarily to annoy, block, or inconvenience somebody else. The Tyler Spite House -- Frederick, Maryland [02:27]112 West Church Street, Frederick, MDIn 1814, the city of Frederick decided to extend Record Street straight through a piece of land owned by Dr. John Tyler, a wealthy ophthalmologist who was also credited as the first American-born physician to perform a cataract operation. Tyler fought the decision, lost, went home, and started thinking. He found an old local ordinance that said the city couldn't build a road through a parcel if construction on a substantial building was already underway there. So he hired a crew and overnight, they poured a foundation directly in the path of the road. When the road workers showed up the next morning, they found a hole in the ground, a crew of builders, and Dr. Tyler reportedly sitting in a chair watching the whole thing and looking very pleased with himself. The road was never built.Tyler finished the house. It ended up being a three-story Federal-style mansion with 17 rooms, over 9,000 square feet, 14-foot ceilings, and eight working fireplaces. He never actually lived in it. He already had a house right next door. The whole thing was just a very expensive way to win an argument. The Tyler Spite House still stands at 112 West Church Street in Frederick. It's been a bed and breakfast, been used as offices, and has been on and off the market for well over a million dollars for years. It's also rumored to be haunted, so there's that. The Boston Skinny House [05:57]44 Hull Street, North End, Boston (along the Freedom Trail, across from Copp's Hill Burying Ground)This four-story wooden house is 10 feet wide at its widest point and tapers down to just over nine feet in the back. At the narrowest spot inside, you can stand in the middle and touch both walls without fully extending your arms. There's no front door. You enter from a side alley. The story that's been passed around for generations goes like this. Two brothers inherited a piece of land from their father. One went off to fight in the Civil War. While he was gone, his brother stayed home and built himself a large, comfortable house on basically all of the inherited land. When the soldier brother came home and saw what happened, he had one thin sliver of land left to his name. So he built the narrowest house he could fit on it and positioned it to block his brother's light and kill his view.Whether that's all historically accurate is a little murky. But the house is real, it's still there, and if spite didn't build it, something at least a lot like spite was probably involved. The Plum Island Pink House [09:47]Newbury, Massachusetts, outside Newburyport near Plum IslandA pale pink house with a cupola, sitting completely alone in the middle of a salt marsh. No neighbors, no trees, no context. Just wetlands in every direction.Built around 1925, the story goes that a couple going through a divorce agreed the husband would build his wife an exact replica of the home they had shared in town. The catch was she forgot to specify where it had to be built. So he built it in the middle of an isolated salt marsh, with no fresh water and plumbing hooked up to saltwater. She allegedly took one look and refused to set foot inside.Whether that's true or legend, nobody can say for certain. But the house is still out there if you've ever made it up toward Plum Island.A Note on Exterior Color and Spite [12:43]Dan wraps the segment wondering if some of the truly baffling exterior color schemes you see driving around might have a little spite behind them. If you're going the other direction and want a color scheme that's actually beautiful, RepcoLite and Benjamin Moore can help. And if you do go bold, Benjamin Moore Aura covers beautifully no matter what color you choose.Current sale: Benjamin Moore Aura and many other premium Benjamin Moore exterior paints are 20% off at every RepcoLite location through May 25.Segments 2 and 3: Two-Tone Kitchen Cabinets -- Six Common Questions [15:26]Two-tone kitchen cabinets look great in photos. Then you stand in your own kitchen and try to figure out where the colors go, and suddenly you've got a lot of questions. Dan works through six of the most common ones.Question 1: Where Do the Different Colors Go? [19:17]Stop thinking about color first. Start by looking at your kitchen and finding places where it already naturally changes or transitions. Two-tone cabinets work best when the color shift happens somewhere the eye expects a shift anyway. An island is the most obvious example. It already sits apart from the perimeter cabinets and reads as its own piece, so a different color there makes sense to people right away. But there are other natural breaks to look for too, like a pantry wall, a built-in hutch, a coffee bar or desk area that feels separate from the main kitchen, or a clearly defined wall of cabinets that stands apart from the rest. The most common rule of thumb is lighter colors up high and darker or stronger colors lower or on a focal point. Lighter uppers make the kitchen feel more open. Darker lowers give it some weight and ground the space. That's why you see so many kitchens with cream or white perimeter cabinets and a navy or charcoal island. It's a rule of thumb, though, not a hard rule. Dark uppers can work if the kitchen has great natural light, taller ceilings, glass-front cabinet doors, or a mix of open shelving. Context matters. What you want to avoid is a scattered approach where the second color shows up in a random cabinet over here, another section across the room, maybe one upper somewhere else. Even if each individual spot makes some sense on its own, the overall effect reads as unplanned. Keep the color placement logical and intentional.Question 2: Do I Need an Island? [24:47]No. In kitchens without an island, the most straightforward move is light upper cabinets with darker lowers. But you can also pick a defined zone to give a different color to, a pantry wall, a built-in hutch, a coffee bar, a prep area that sits apart from the main run of cabinets. Designers talk about this as giving an area its own identity, treating it more like a piece of furniture than a cabinet that has to match everything else. A deep green pantry wall against off-white perimeter cabinets can look great, for example. One thing to watch in a no-island kitchen: keep it to two cabinet colors. Once you add a third on top of floors, countertops, backsplash, hardware, and appliances, the kitchen starts to feel like a lot very quickly.Question 3: Will Two Colors Make My Kitchen Feel Smaller or Busier? [26:17]It can, but it doesn't have to. In a larger kitchen with good natural light, you've got a lot of room to work with. You can go darker on the lowers, use a bold pantry color, push the contrast further. A smaller kitchen with limited light is a different situation. Two cabinet colors in a tight, low-light space can make the room feel chopped up, and one cabinet color might genuinely be the smarter call there.Dan admits this is the question that probably rules out his own kitchen for the project. That's okay. Not every space is the right fit for it, and it's a lot better to figure that out before you paint everything than after.Question 4: How Do I Choose Two Colors That Actually Work Together? [29:07]One color should do the calming. The other should do the talking. That's the principle. Pick one quiet color and one color with some character. If both are loud, the kitchen becomes visually exhausting to be in.The quiet color is almost always going to be something like a warm white, a cream, or a soft greige. The character color is where the personality comes in: a navy, a sage green, something deeper and moodier.Three Benjamin Moore pairings Dan mentions that work in just about any kitchen:White Dove and Hale Navy -- a warm white paired with a navy that basically acts like a neutral. It's not going to look dated in 10 or more years. About as safe and timeless as it gets.Swiss Coffee and October Mist -- a creamy white with a soft sage green. More muted than the navy option, better for someone who wants to step into color without it being too loud.White Dove and Aegean Teal -- Aegean Teal was Benjamin Moore's Color of the Year back around 2021 and is still going strong. A little more current-feeling than the other...

Join our champion program: mark@themomentumcompany.comAttend a Thriving Leader event: https://thriving-leader-2026.lovable.app/Instagram: @the.momentum.companyLinkedIn: /momentum-companyIn this episode of The Intentional Agribusiness Leader, Mark sits down with Grant Fitzgerald, Senior Vice President at Farmers National Company, for a conversation that blends leadership, land management, and the evolving role of agriculture as an asset class.Grant defines intentional leadership through a simple but powerful lens:“In spite of X.”There will always be obstacles—fatigue, workload, uncertainty, or discomfort. Intentional leaders don't wait for ideal conditions. They move forward anyway. That mindset has shaped Grant's career—from a non-traditional ag background to leading a business that manages over 2 million acres across the United States.A major theme throughout the episode is growth under pressure. In land management, growth isn't optional—it's required. Farms change hands, generational transitions happen, and portfolios evolve. Leaders must continually build relationships, expand their network, and replace what is naturally lost over time. And often, that growth happens in the moments you least feel like doing the work.Stopping for one more conversation.Making one more call.Building one more relationship. That's the difference. The conversation also explores a major shift happening in farmland ownership.Agricultural land is increasingly being viewed as an asset class, not just a legacy. While previous generations were deeply connected to the land through personal history, newer owners are more focused on return on investment, portfolio performance, and efficiency. That shift is changing expectations.More focus on ROI and performanceDifferent communication styles and service needsIncreased demand for professional management and reportingAt the same time, the economics of farming are under pressure.Rising input costs, tighter margins, and increased financial stress are creating a more complex environment for both operators and landowners. While agriculture remains resilient, the margin for error is shrinking—and clarity in decision-making is more important than ever.On the leadership side, Grant shares one of the most real challenges of stepping into a senior role:Reinventing yourself. What got you here won't get you there.Leadership requires:Having tough (and sometimes uncomfortable) conversationsSeparating personal relationships from professional decisionsOwning your vision, even when it's not universally acceptedAnd perhaps most importantly—being willing to be misunderstood at times. The conversation closes with a powerful reminder about building teams and culture. You can teach skills. You can develop expertise. But you can't manufacture passion and willingness. The best organizations are built by people who want to be there—and leaders who are intentional about creating an environment where those people can thrive.Because in agriculture, as in leadership, success doesn't come from avoiding challenges. It comes from moving forward…In spite of them.Listen if you are:Leading a team through growth or transitionNavigating generational changes in land ownershipInterested in farmland as an investment or asset classBuilding relationships in a relationship-driven industryStepping into a new leadership role and feeling the pressure

Read transcriptThere are games that make you feel like a superhero, and then there are games that make you feel like you forgot to read the instructions, lost the instructions, and maybe the instructions never existed in the first place. Uncanny X-Men on the NES proudly lives in that second category. This week, we're taking a look at a game that technically features some of our favorites from Marvel's mutants, but in a way that raises a lot of questions. Mostly “why does it work like this?” and “who thought this was a good idea?” Along the way, we'll try to connect the dots back to the comics and see what actually made the jump from page to cartridge. Joining the show are frequent guest and actual real-life friend Adam Williamson, along with Miles Stokes from Jay and Miles X-Plain the X-Men, bringing the kind of X-Men knowledge and patience required to make sense of a game that absolutely refuses to explain itself. Samara was born in in Baltimore, MD and lived in Jacksonville, Fla. till she was 25. At that point, Samara moved to Northwest North Carolina. At a young age, Samara envisioned her life quite differently, especially in the kitchen. This is where the story begins.... "Marilyn didn't talk about her childhood very much because she doesn't have much that's positive to share, continues Samara. "When she was being raised, she was the product of what would be considered an illegitimate relationship. She was treated very much like the black sheep and the role that they found for her in the family was basically as something of a servant. She was always cooking and cleaning up after everybody. And over the years, she says she started making food for the family when she was seven. Over the years, she developed her kraft and honed her techniques and developed an actual love of her process." My guest says that her mother was a rebellious teenager in the early 1940's. Marilyn's mother, Samara's grandmother, did not have a true presence in her daughter's life. "To say that she was emotionally unavailable is pretty accurate," reflects Samara about her mom. "Why are you crying, it's not going to bring them back" is what Marilyn would say to her daughter if she was sad and crying about loosing someone." Samara was drawn to her mom's passion of cooking. At the drop of a hat there'd be anywhere from 10 or more guests for dinner. Unfortunately, Samara would serve as the dish washer and cleaner and not an assistant to the chef. Samara remembers distinctly her mom prepping food for the holidays. "Her Passover Seders, were the meals that stand out to this day. It was because they were never less than an elaborate affair. She'd start cooking days in advance to make the chopped liver and stick it in the fridge and make the Gefilte fish from scratch, you know, it was an ordeal, every year." Today, the relationship is strained between mother and daughter. Marilyn was a stay at home mom and critically ill throughout Marilyn's life. Mom has been bedridden for five years. Both parents are medical professionals but as Marilyn says, "they both hold their cards very close." Samara loves her mom. She says "my mom would give you the shirt off her back, she's was always very generous and a bit of a philanthropist." Despite their differences, Samara truly cares about her mom. Samara's mother is very generous and giving and really a philanthropist with hopes and desires to help others succeed. Despite their differences and challenges in their relationship, Samara truly loves her mother. Samara's current business -"Brew Naturals." It's all about Elderberries and introducing the local community and retail and online sales to the variety of snacks, honey, beer, treats, etc that she's created. Plus she loves collaborating with local businesses including breweries to a chocolatier, local creamery, etc. Hearing Samara talk about her Elderberry Apple Butter just makes my mouth water. In Samara's words: "I am a maker of gourmet elderberry products based in WNC. While nearly everyone familiar with elderberry comes to it by way of health and wellness, I'm endeavoring to change the conversation by highlighting its culinary applications. In this pursuit I have developed recipes using my elderberry syrup and had a number of collaborations with regional businesses from cafes/restaurants, creameries/chocolatiers, and even bars/breweries." Read transcriptSome magical girl stories are content with sparkly transformations and heartfelt speeches. This is not one of those stories. This time on Play Comics we're warping through the glitter-strewn chaos of Sailor Moon: Another Story, the Super Famicom RPG that took the 90s manga and anime vibes, mashed them with branching timelines and turn-based redemption arcs, and asked, “What if destiny needed a save state?” It's console combat where emotional baggage weighs more than your inventory, and every villain monologue comes with a friendship discount. Chris isn't battling cosmic paradoxes solo though. Cass Proffitt from Distant Echoes jumps into the senshi squad to help unpack how this game balances moon crystal lore with JRPG grind, and whether it's a radiant tribute to Sailor Moon or just the sparkliest timeline meltdown in gaming history. Together they're digging into what survived the trip from Naoko Takeuchi's pages to console controllers, complete with overdramatic plot twists and Jupiter's undefeated punch stat. Dust off your brooch, queue the theme song, and prepare for senshi squad analysis laced with villain rehab debates and moon prism power-ups that hit different on pixelated screens. Learn such things as: Why Another Story might actually be canon. Sort of. Maybe. How localization shaped the Western Sailor Moon fandom. What the point of it all is if you don't even have a cat to help guide you along the way. And so much more! You can find Cass on their podcast Distant Echoes. You can read the full thoughts from CountZeroOr here: Why we never got them? Well, I'd probably say it's a combination of a couple factors: First, for much of the 16-bit console generation (and the 8-bit console generation before that), there was still a very considerable anti-Japan bias in terms of marketing of console games, based on the idea that American audiences wouldn't buy anything actively presented as being Japanese, so Anime presentations were out (this is part of the reason why the first Ranma 1/2 fighting game was changed into “Street Combat”) – the Golgo 13 games were viewed as something of an outlier. While some later titles in the 90s would take chances on presenting themselves as being more anime (i.e. Ranma 1/2 Hard Battle), they were also titles for properties generally marketed to guys, as also around this time video game marketing was increasingly getting more gendered, something that would continue throughout the 90s and into the 2000s and beyond. As a property targeted for girls, Sailor Moon didn't fit in the gender essentialist marketing plans of the video game industry. The fact that, since it's a RPG, it also has a ton of text to localize and translate (versus to the Sailor Moon beat-em-ups), certainly didn't help. The next episode is going to be Uncanny X-Men. That's right, we're taking another look at the NES game. What are your experiences with this one? If they remade it today what characters would you want included that weren't in the original? Springfield's favorite menace trades his skateboard for spandex in Bartman Meets Radioactive Man, and somehow the result ended up on both the NES and Game Gear. Whether it's justice or just pure mayhem, this is one crossover nobody asked for but we're glad to have anyway. But Chris can't do this along, so he's joined by the always enlightening Tommy Proffitt from Distant Echos and Lee Carvallo's Podding Challenge. Together they unravel what happens when cartoon superheroes meet 8-bit hardware and common sense takes a vacation. So grab your cape, your slingshot, and your best “Eat my shorts” energy, because things are about to get weird, nostalgic, and slightly irradiated. Just like Bart would've wanted. Learn such things as: How has The Simpsons secretly wormed its was into your everyday life? What happens when you have such a character driven franchise and use hardly any of them at all? Were the Radioactive Man comics just a testing ground for future characters? And so much more! The guys let the people in on the Red Wings conversation for the first time this show.
Mike and Rico spent the second hour with a continuation of their opening topic of the day.
Description:What does it mean to be okay when nothing is okay? Not fixed. Not optimized. Not cured. Just… okay. This week, Jen and Amy sit down with bestselling author and professional weirdo Jenny Lawson to talk about surviving — and sometimes even thriving — inside a brain that does not always cooperate. Jenny's new book, How to Be Okay When Nothing Is Okay, is a field guide for tender humans: a collection of tiny tools for when the big solutions feel impossible. Today, we talk about: Living with “tiny erratic squirrels” in your head Why imposter syndrome gets louder with success Learning to live within your real capacity Why you're not failing if it's just not for you Helpful tools like “weird walks”, “body doubling”, “writing Zooms”, The radical courage of simply staying This conversation explores what happens when we stop trying to override our nervous systems and start listening to them instead. Midlife has a way of stripping away illusion — about productivity, about comparison, about who we're supposed to be. Jenny reminds us that sometimes grit looks like finishing the book. And sometimes it looks like taking a drink of water and calling it enough. If you are exhausted, if you feel behind, if your brain tells you you're the only one struggling – YOU ARE NOT ALONE. And being “still here” is no small thing. Thought-provoking Quotes: “Self-help books are super helpful for the right kind of person but I'm not that person.” – Jenny Lawson “Keep in mind that what worked for you in the past might not necessarily work for you now or in the future, and that doesn't mean you failed. It just means that's an opportunity.” – Jenny Lawson “If you throw humor into a really dark subject, it gives people permission to laugh. And then that big monster becomes so much smaller.” – Jenny Lawson Resources Mentioned in This Episode: How to Be Okay When Nothing Is Okay: Tips and Tricks That Kept Me Alive, Happy, and Creative in Spite of Myself by Jenny Lawson – https://amzn.to/4qWKZi5 Samantha Irby – https://www.samanthairby.com/ A Ghost and His Gold by Roberta Eaton Cheadle – https://amzn.to/405lMH8 Anne Rice – https://annerice.com/ Dean Koontz – https://www.deankoontz.com/ Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia – https://amzn.to/475Qp31 Focusmate (Body Doubling App) - https://www.focusmate.com/ Let's Pretend This Never Happened: (A Mostly True Memoir) by Jenny Lawson – https://amzn.to/4rGEBN7 Furiously Happy: A Funny Book About Horrible Things by Jenny Lawson – https://amzn.to/4u4RBxG Broken (In The Best Possible Way) by Jenny Lawson – https://amzn.to/4r3Bhuh Jenny Lawson Book Tour - https://thebloggess.com/2026/02/25/how-to-be-okay-when-nothing-is-okay-on-book-tour/ Jenny Lawson's Nowhere Book Shop in San Antonio, TX - https://nowherebookshop.com/ Guest's Links: Website - https://thebloggess.com/ Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/thebloggess/ Twitter - https://x.com/TheBloggess Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/jennythebloggess Pinterest - https://www.pinterest.com/thebloggess/ Substack - https://thebloggess.substack.com/ Connect with Jen!Jen's Website - https://jenhatmaker.com/ Jen's Instagram - https://instagram.com/jenhatmakerJen's Twitter - https://twitter.com/jenHatmaker/ Jen's Facebook - https://facebook.com/jenhatmakerJen's YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/user/JenHatmaker The For the Love Podcast is presented by Audacy.
