Isn't it funny how a genre of music that is supposed to be as far removed as you can get in terms of attitude and acceptance still has a stereotype? Not that it is blatantly obvious and bickered about like some genres, but most metalheads have an unwavering belief that to be heavy metal you must play electric guitars and generate an almighty racket while simultaneously not giving a fuck about anything at all. When a trio of metal loving, Spanish guitar playing gentlemen dare rain on that parade you can just bet that the average metalhead in the crowd would take that as akin to a personal attack, right?Wrong.Wrong if you said right because you think Spanish guitar has no place in heavy metal, and even wronger again if you think their brand of instrumental music would struggle to compete on a sonic and aggressive level.Kallidad have been traversing the globe on an epic voyage of musical discovery, taking their style of music to a wide land of opportunities that are only limited by the restrictions you impose on yourself and others. They return to the stage n their home country on February19 as part of the Metal Alliance festival to be held at Sydney's Factory Theatre, joining bands such as Temtress, Demonhead, Pure Envy and Warrior Within. It is a bold move by organizers to extend the invitation to Kallidad to play, and a seemingly braver one again of the band to accept. To dispel that notion and prove why, HEAVY was joined by guitarist Jason Jonas earlier this week to delve into the world of this unique and supremely talented band."I think you'll find that we are just as powerful and energetic as any Marshall stack or any eight-string guitar,” he countered, “and we all come from a metal background. So we have a deep love and appreciation of metal and it's my personal biggest influence and always will be. We've just done something different with the bones of the festival and when Alex from the Metal alliance Festival first approached us to book us I congratulated her because I've always thought that Kallidad should be spending more timein the metal community as a band and the fact she decided to take that risk and not only book us, but gave us one of the premiere spots on the festival I said it shows really gre4at judgement because it is heavy metal music and heavy metal music is a style of playing. ts not just about how much distortion there is on the instrument."In the full interview Jason talks more about Kallidad's sound and how it successfully slots in at any festival regardless of the composition of the other bands, where their sound came from, how they harness the might of metal in the beautiful and intricate sound of the Spanish guitar, concealing their identities on stage and the reasons behind it, conveying emotion through music without a vocalist, new music and more.

The inaugural Full Stop Festival is set to be held at the Bendigo Hotel, Collingwood, on May 11, with a host of local and national bands uniting to spread one simple message. Domestic violence and sexual assault are blights on society and we as a collective must make a stand now to make sure perpetrators are not only called out but also punished for their actions.Darcy Mulcahy, drummer from one of the headliners, Trigger, says using music - especially heavier music that often gets a bad rap - as a means to spread this important message is a step in the right direction for more reasons than the obvious."There's been studies done that show that people that listen to metal are generally happier", he pointed out, "because it's that cathartic experience. Hopefully, this helps dispell that association a little bit".While it is widely recognised as a predominantly female problem, it is important to note and realise that sexual assault and domestic violence are also suffered by the male population."That's a really good point", Mulcahy nodded, "and this is a really good platform where we can raise awareness. I think as well metalheads are probably a bit more proud sometimes so it's good that we can open up that conversation to the people and if we can help them speak about that it's a really good thing".In the full interview Darcy discusses the perception that heavy music and violence go hand in hand, the different forms of abuse these issues can take, talks about a situation he witnessed at a concert and how steps were taken to prevent the issue from escalating, the fact that the Full Stop Festival is relying more on up and coming bands rather than established names to put their message across, Trigger's new song 'Demon Eyes', new vocalist Nathan Peachey and what he brings to the band, their plan to release a series of singles throughout the year and more.

he official music video for “Black Sheep” essentially takes the scene from the film and plays it out to the full length of the song, complete with Brie Larson vocals throughout — meaning this is an actual Clash at Demonhead video, not just a lip-synched performance to a Metric song. I mean, that’s the way it goes, right? There are all kinds of fake bands in movies, but rarely do you get a future Oscar-winning actress to record a cover of a song by a Canadian dance-rock band. Plus, the video looks cool as hell: we get more of the cool back-and-forth cuts on the rhythm of the guitar riff — with the intense stares between Envy, Scott, Ramona, and Todd — from the scene in the movie, and it’s also intercut with clips from the film which do a lovely job of consolidating the storyline of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World into a three-and-a-half minute clip. The “Black Sheep” video does an excellent job of selling the cool of the movie, as well as making those of us who love it want to go watch it again (seriously, I went to watch the Clash at Demonhead scenes for this piece, and ended up sitting in front of the TV for a solid half hour). Strangely, the video’s not available on either the DVD or the Blu-ray, but you can get it if you download the deluxe version of the soundtrack on iTunes.

It's hard for an independent game developer to break into the business. With average budgets for high profile games now exceeding $20 million, and an ever increasing number of different publishers competing over market share, how is a guy with no education and no experience going to create, publish and market his own game? The answer is simple: He's not! And that's totally fine, because the game he would have created would have just been a rehash of other games using characters he didn't own the rights to. We're looking at the Fantendo wiki - a place where people can skip game development and cut straight to game journalism. Because really, the journalism's the most sophisticated part. This week, The F Plus needs to stay radical or it will implode!
