Spel som nämns i avsnittet: Grand Theft Auto VI, Baldur's Gate 3, Divinity: Original Sin 2, Super Mario Maker, Unicorn Overlord, Magic: The Gathering, Super Castlevania IV, Tetris, Dragon's Dogma 2, Rise of the Ronin, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Playstation Portal Tidskoder: (01:20) Veckans fråga (07:03) Spelnyheter (37:27) Reklam (38:00) Spelsvepet
Spel som nämns i avsnittet: Disney Dreamlight Valley, Baldur's Gate III, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Immortals of Aveum, The Callisto Protocol, Uncharted 4, God of War, Apex Legends, Super Castlevania IV Tidskoder:(00:45) Veckans personliga fråga (07:20) Spelnyheter (34:10) Reklam (34:40) Spelsvepet
Spel som nämns i avsnittet: Fortnite, Princess Peach: Showtime!, Super Mario RPG, Metroid: Samus Returns, Luigi's Mansion 3, Hogwarts Legacy, Suicide Squad, Destiny, The Last of Us, Balatro, Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley, Super Castlevania IV, Device 6, Unicorn Overlord, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Tidskoder: (01:00) Personlig fråga (06:10) Nyheter (30:55) Reklam (32:00) Spelintryck

But these days, I'm a fan of both. And they go together like peanut butter and chocolate with Castlevania Bloodlines, which is now one of my favourite Genesis games! I've really grown to appreciate the Castlevania series, and for my money, these games are at their peak on 16-bit hardware. It's safe to say that Super Castlevania IV and Bloodlines are now my favourite Vania games. This one looks great, plays great, and of course, it's tough; just the way I like my retro titles. Ye olde Bradley McCue returns to the show this week, both to talk about how much he loves this game, and to try to explain the story to me, because I'm absolutely fucking lost. Great game, killer guest, mediocre podcast. Why WOULDN'T you listen?! And before we hunt vampires or something, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks for advice with some rare items in their game collection. Will we ever cover PS4/XBox One games on RTG? And with all these layoffs, is the video game market crashing?? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 Konami Genesis titles: Rocket Knight Adventures, Contra: Hard Corps, and Sunset Riders. Spel som nämns i avsnittet: Helldivers II, Halo Infinite, Elden Ring, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Horizon Zero Dawn, Tomb Raider, Dota 2, Super Castlevania IV, Balatro, Nightingale, Last Epoch Spel som nämns i releaseradarn: The Outlast Trials, Unicorn overlord, Alone in the Dark, Horizon Forbidden West, Dragon's Dogma 2, Rise of the Ronin, Princess Peach Showtime!, South Park: Snow Day!, Open Roads Tidskoder: (01:00) Personlig fråga (07:49) Nyheter (21:13) Reklam (22:32) Spelintryck
“DRACULA HAS REVIVED MANY TIMES.” Back on board the spooky train with the beloved action platform series, as we arrive in the 16-bit era and Super Castlevania IV. Leon, Leah, Michiel and community correspondents weigh in on this remake/'requel' of the original Akumajo Dracula. There's a lot of love for the soundtrack (except for prog/jazz hating Leah) and Simon's all-new eight-way wiggly whip. http://media.blubrry.com/caneandrinse/caneandrinse.com/podcast/cane_and_rinse_issue_588.mp3 Music featured in this issue:1. From the console wars sparked by SEGA's audacious Genesis challenging Nintendo's reign, to the rise of iconic mascots like Sonic the Hedgehog, these years were rife with innovation and intense competition. As the early 90s progressed, the industry's focus transitioned from captivating mascots to the sheer power of hardware, with giants like Nintendo, SEGA, and the emerging Sony pushing technological boundaries. Dive deep into this exhilarating era, exploring the rapid evolution of gaming and pondering on the impact of the fierce rivalries that shaped the landscape we know today. From 1990 to 1992, the gaming landscape was marked by pivotal transitions and fierce competition. The early part of this period witnessed a heightened rivalry between Nintendo and SEGA, underscored by the surprise challenge from SEGA's Genesis and Nintendo's subsequent launch of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. SEGA's calculated introduction of Sonic the Hedgehog, designed not just to challenge Mario but to symbolize SEGA's essence, added a new dimension to the console wars. By 1992, the narrative shifted from the charm of mascots to the raw technological might, as the industry, now with Sony entering the scene, was abuzz with innovation. This era, enriched by game design legends and a focus on advanced graphics and gameplay, showcased the industry's rapid evolution and potential trajectories influenced by intense rivalries.Featured Games:Super Mario Bros 3, The Secret of Monkey Island, Mega Man 3, Wing Commander, Alex Kidd in Shinobi World, Super Mario World, Street Fighter 2, Sonic the Hedgehog, Lemmings, Final Fantasy IV, Super Castlevania IV, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Wolfenstein 3D, Mortal Kombat, Super Mario Kart, Alone in the Dark, and Kirby's Dream Land. ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★ Thanks to our monthly supporters FS Tabreez Siddique Mynx Mopman43 Ritsu William Kage Studio Devil Dallay_g Razu John H The Golden Bolt MykonosFan ErbBetaPatched Vornak Killer Space Serra Mr. Lindsay Autocharth History With Kayleigh Benjamin Steele Nick Makris minimme
Welcome to Dev Game Club, where this week we begin a new series on 1991's Eye of the Beholder, from Westwood Studios and published by Strategic Simulations Inc. We set the game in its time before exploring its primary mechanics and the feel of being in this world. Dev Game Club looks at classic video games and plays through them over several episodes, providing commentary. Sections played: First level or two Issues covered: knowing who the evil is, tactical top down Gold Box, the opening cutscene, being amazed at how much they get into the Game Boy version of a Metroid game, lots of movie tie-ins, a wide variety of machines, lack of automap, being everything one wanted for a Forgotten Realms nerd, one of the ten games, semi real-time, living inside the depths of Waterdeep, a style of play which continues today, having to rest immediately, gaining information through audio, uncovering the whole map vs racing towards the goal, tournament play, losing is fun, the only way out is through, annotating a later map, interacting with the play space, accessibility and the mouse, contextualization and abstraction in game design, having to throw weapons in the world, how cool the audio is, using items to locate yourself, creating a party, crunchy spells, shout-outs to upcoming work, difficulty in the bosses in Metroid games then and now, games influencing games, getting the green light, justifying the game via the sweet spot of trends, why not just make this a Star Wars game, how green lighting changes with bigger franchises, games that changed our perspectives. Games, people, and influences mentioned or discussed: Gold Box games, Westwood Studios, Dune 2, A Link to the Past, Super Castlevania IV, SNES, Mega Man 4, Final Fantasy IV, Metroid II: Return of Samus (and Metroid series), Sonic the Hedgehog, Sega Genesis, Battletoads, Rare, Stamper Bros, Civilization, Another World, Space Quest IV, Monkey Island 2, Wing Commander 2, Hudson Hawk, Terminator 2, American Gladiators, Hunt for Red October, The Godfather, Amiga, PC-98, Atari ST, Commodore 64, Apple ][, Spectrum ZX, Amstrad, Questron, Disney, Legend of Kyrandia, Command and Conquer (series), Electronic Arts, Earth and Beyond, Louis Castle, Brett Sperry, Strategic Simulations Incorporated, Advanced Dungeons & Dragons, Pool of Radiance, The Ruins of Myth Drannor, Ultima (series), Wizardry (series), A Bard's Tale (series), Ultima Underworld, Dungeon Master, Dragon Warrior/Dragon Quest (series), Diablo, Wasteland, Temple of Elemental Evil, Legend of Grimrock, Etrian Odyssey (series), The Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh, The Tomb of Horrors, Infocom, Ocarina of Time, Rogue, Deluxe Paint, Baldur's Gate, Jarkko Sivula, Single Malt Apocalypse, Sierra, LucasArts, Wierd Tales, Amazing Stories, Tintin, Pippin Barr, David Wolinsky, Game Thing, The Stuff Games Are Made Of, Walker, Dark Souls, Nintendo, Skyrim, Breath of the Wild, Johnny Pockets, Mad Max, Full Throttle, Day of the Tentacle, Grim Fandango, Republic Commando, Sam and Max: Freelance Police, Bounty Hunter, RTX Red Rock, Gladius, PlayStation, Tomb Raider (series), Halo: Infinite, Quake, MYST, Lode Runner, Sabotage, Robotron 2084, Joust, Dark Forces, WoW Classic, Everquest, MUD, Ultima Online, Meridian 59, Adventure, Kirk Hamilton, Aaron Evers, Mark Garcia. Feed will include Channels 1, 2, 3, and any future channels not yet planned. Feed will also include podcasts in high quality, stereo where applicable, and episodes will never expire off the feed. Therefore it is STRONGLY recommended that you subscribe to this Nerd Noise Radio feed and bypass all others. This one will contain all their content anyway. Option 2: If you're ONLY interested in Channel 1 ("Noise from the Hearts of Nerds") episodes, and not in any of the other content that is or will be offered by Nerd Noise Radio, there is a Channel 1-specific feed. But it's hosted on a free account, rather than an upgraded account like the "All Channels Feed" with lower quality sound (mono, I believe), a maximum 2hrs per month of content (so if the month's episodes run longer than that, they may need to be trimmed), and episodes expire off the feed forever after 90 days. It is STRONGLY recommended for most listeners to subscribe to the All-Channels feed instead. However, if you really are only interested in Channel 1 content, here's the RSS: http://www.buzzsprout.com/77944.rss Our episodes will also appear on our Nerd Noise Radio YouTube Channel - just search for Nerd Noise Radio, you'll find us! Here's today's episode: https://youtu.be/hkJQ00bujQk Additionally, there are YouTube Playlists you can follow, both an "All Channels" Feed (recommended), as well as channel-specific feeds. Blog Link: http://videogamegrooves.com/2022/05/21/episode-95-mega-man-legends-across-the-worlds-chrono-cross-wayo-piano-collection Spring has sprung, and like may flowers so have we! This episode is a tiny salute to game series that took a hard left turn but wound up right where they were always meant to be. Our exemplars this week begin with the cult favorite Mega Man Legends from Ship to Shore Media. We look back at this trailblazer of 3D storytelling from before the likes of Metal Gear Solid, and we appreciate its "Saturday morning anime" vibe. The music, too, is a fun little grab-bag of music from disco to classical to synthy cartoon rock or swing, and it's all pretty ahead of its time. We also dive into our first piano arrangement album with Across the Worlds: Chrono Cross Wayô Piano Collection, which is a multi-artist adaptation of a game that still divides fans of the "Chrono series" today. We appreciate the emotional range of the piano, and the daring of a piano arrangement album in general to augment or approach a favorite score with nothing but the instrument and someone to play it. We also examine the time and place of Chrono Cross, and whether or not it is actually a sequel to the universally-acclaimed Chrono Trigger. We continue our discussion with some reflections on game series that changed creative direction, and how the story, aesthetic, and music either benefited or suffered. And finally, we look at all the new releases that have come out in the past few weeks, along with some non-release news that might save you a few bucks on your next vinyl order! Join us to laugh, love, and learn. A few months ago, we reviewed Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. I didn't really like it, and I took a lot of shit for that opinion (which I stand by, screw that stupid inverted castle). This week, we're looking another Castlevania - Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow. And I'm happy (and relieved) to say that it was everything I wanted SOTN to be. This game is outstanding. From the bad-ass soul sucking (and you can suck EVERY enemy in the game!), to the simplified inventory system, to the lack of a hidden second half of the game without fucking telling you it's there, Aria of Sorrow absolutely blew my expectations out of the water. I'm no Castlevania expert, but in my limited experience with the series, I'd probably place Sorrow atop my official Vania of Castle rankings. Plus, what kind of beast was the GBA? Such a powerhouse of a console! My buddy Bradley McCue returns to the show this week, (he was actually my guest on the Symphony of the Night episode as well), and we didn't butt heads nearly as much this time around. He had a couple more nitpicks than I did, but at the end of the day we both agreed that Aria of Sorrow is just a damned fine piece of video game. And before we talk Sorrowing Arias, I roll out another edition of the 'Remember The Game? Infamous Intro'! This week, we talk about what's a better investment of your gaming dollar: a AAA game, or a handful of random indie titles? We talk about Achievements/Trophies for retro games via the website RetroAchivements. And what's the toughest game I've played in the past year or so? PLUS, we have another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', featuring three Castlevania Classics: Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, Super Castlevania IV, and Castlevania: Bloodlines. Simon swings back into action in Super Castlevania IV, as featured in Volume 33 of Nintendo Power Magazine. Also featured is Mega Man 4, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and more. Featured Music The intro/outro music in this episode is by Azure Flux, and used with permission.
The following podcast is intended for mature audiences. It may contain opinions and comments about Castlevania: Symphony of the Night that some might find offensive. Listener discretion is advised. Symphony of the Night is considered by many to be one of the greatest video games of all-time. It's one of the pioneers of the Metroidvania genre (hence the name), and it's easily one of the games I've been asked to review the most over the years. I'd never played it before, so when it won our Patreon poll, I was excited. I love metroidvanias, I love retro games, this should be a lay-up, right?? Well, not exactly. I gotta be honest - I didn't love this game. Truth be told, I didn't like it very much at all. It looks great, it sounds nice. I respect what it did for a genre I love so much. But I found it, kinda boring. Tedious. And "the best part of the game" is hidden in the most obnoxious fashion possible. I, I just don't get why this game is so popular. But my guest, Bradley McCue, does. He loves this game, which is why he was the perfect ying to my yang this week. I had no choice but to agree with some of the stuff he loved, and he had no choice but to come along with a few mechanics that I hated. And I want to be clear. There's no Angry Adam this week. I don't rip SotN a new ass or anything. I respect its legacy, and I tried my best to show as much. But I don't like this game, and this week, I'm gonna tell you why. And of course, before I completely ruin my reputation and RTG comes crashing down all around me, I run through another edition of the 'Remember The Game? Infamous Intro'! This week, we talk about how damned good Sega Genesis soundtracks are. Were we better gamers when we were kids? And what's the best controller for the Nintendo Switch? PLUS, we have another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', featuring three pre-SotN Castlevania games - Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, Super Castlevania IV, and Castlevania: Bloodlines. In this episode Greg and Joe are looking at the second Castlevania game on the SNES -- Dracula X! A 're-imagining' of Rondo of Blood, which came out two years earlier for the PC-Engine in Japan only, this game plays more akin to the original NES Castlevania games then Super Castlevania IV. We discuss the differences between the two games, how it plays, and if it's worth playing today. Any questions, comments, etc can be left on our FB page or e-mailed to thesnespodcast@yahoo.com and as always thanks for your support! The SNES Podcast is part of the Geekade network! In this spooky episode, Karl, Will and special guest Travis, focus on the music to the 1991 SNES title Super Castlevania IV! The guys discuss what works, what doesn't, and what stands out about this unique entry in the beloved series! Happy Halloween!

Issues covered: not being able to play every day, lack of recaps, enjoying the thief play, fighting a merchant and stealing his clothes, "who does this?," playing different games, the influence of party members on combat play, the trickster as main character, missing out on surprises because you spent so much time on a space, recontextualizing a space, paying off the cider/setting up things that needed to be dealt with later, transitioning based on order, a little bit of proto-Tower Defense, how/why Brett lost, fighting Kefka, the transformation of Terra, spell ordering in the menus, learning from Espers (rather than treating them as Items), implementation cost tradeoffs, effective use of Mode 7, a brief aside on how Mode 7 works, hardware-supported image tricks, retroactive peformance analysis, making a level out of sprites, party composition, a flashback with Edgar and Sabin, losing context for later information, Locke and Rachel, the backstory and its many tropes, the HadesGiga earthquake thing and avoiding it, the clock puzzle in Zozo and everyone lying to you, Edgar's chainsaw, the Opera House, getting to rewind time, Tim failing the timer due to shenanigans, really laying out the scene, not playing to the game's audience (with opera), a big set-up to introduce Setzer, investing in the developers' passions, limited sources of pop culture reference, drawing from a wider range of influences, layering force over the top, a review that calls back a couple years, keeping Edgar in the party, Balthier (FFXII) as Han Solo stand-in, abstraction and JRPGs, music in the game, getting into JRPGs in 2000.
