Well, we did it. We finally made it through every single episode of Family Matters. But before we say goodbye, we've gotta recap Season 1. We're talking highs, we're talking lows, and we're talking alternate cold opens. And, don't worry, we'll be back next week for an all encompassing send-off, shuttleboy style.Alex Diamond, David Kenny, and John McDaniel heard that the long-running network sitcom Family Matters ends with side character Steve Urkel going to space. And the best way to figure out how that happened - obviously - is to watch the last episode first and make our way backwards through nearly ten years of television.Join our countdown to number one (and our slow descent into madness) in all the places you expect internet people to be:Website: jumpingtheshuttle.spaceEmail: jumpingtheshuttle@gmail.comInstagram: @JumpingTheShuttle / @ThatAlexD / @dak577Twitter: @JumpingShuttle / @ThatAlexD / @dak577TikTok: @JumpingTheShuttle / @ThatAlexD / @dak577Brought to you by Smooth My Balls

It's time for one of those huge episodes. Well, it's a four parter anyways. 1990 was a damn fine year for horror movies. Unfortunately though, once again, there is no iron clad masterpiece amongst them. Just a stack of really decent films. But, what do I think was the very greatest horror movie that came out during 1990? Well, here we have the top 10. The worst 10. A slew of also rans. Some awesome mates. Some special guests. A movie so nice, they made it twice! NostalgiaCast continues its "Bucket List" season of '90s favorites with a big ol' goopy deep dive into Joseph James Dante Jr.'s GREMLINS 2: THE NEW BATCH, perhaps the most subversive studio picture ever unleashed on the film-going public. Avoid bright lights, water, and eating after midnight as Jonny and Darin discuss the arbitrary rules, delightfully disgusting practical FX, and nonstop parade of in-jokes that make up the greatest meta-sequel of all time. Check it out one time, won't you?
After the huge success of the original Gremlins, Warner Bros quickly wanted a sequel. The people who'd actually made Gremlins, not least director Joe Dante? The thought of making another was not in the slightest big appealing. Until, many years later, the studio made Dante an offer: if you make Gremlins 2, you can do pretty much whatever you want with it. This is the story of how the ensuing film became one of the most boldest blockbuster sequels of all time. Later in the same decade, Christopher Guest took a small company of actors down to Texas for a month. On a modest budget, he shot over 50 hours of footage, that'd take over a year to edit into a feature film. Even when the resultant movie, Waiting For Guffman, was finished, it took a long time to earn its reputation as a modern comedy classic... Stories of both films are told in this episode. What better way to start off the new year than with chaos only rivaled by that of the real world? Gremlins 2: The New Batch is one of the most anarchist sequels to ever exist, and Max, Liz, and Host Spencer try to parse through this movie with enough decorum to make Brainy Gremlin proud. As is the running joke in this episode, THIS. MOVIE. HAS. EVERYTHING: A 24 hour yogurt shop, Science Twins, Gomez Addams trying to fix a water fountain, a vegetable gremlin, and an opening sequence literally taken from Superman IV... and that is not even 10% of the zaniness.

It's a No Gods holiday miracle! We're returning to the world of Gremlins to cover one of the most batshit movies ever produced. It's part 3 of our ‘New York' marathon and we're in up in the skyscrapers for “Gremlins 2: The New Batch”. A film in which John Glover portrays a thinly veiled Donald Trump in a far more sympathetic light than would be possible these days; Hulk Hogan is revealed to be younger than any of our hosts; and Christopher Lee has already got rabies. The belated sequel to Joe Dante's original failed to ignite the box office, and seems to have a annoyed many fans of that first film, possibly for the crime of trying to be a bit different, but we find it impossible to not get swept up in the glorious glee with which the titular monsters, and their director, wreak havoc with this movie. Unfettered from the control of his producers, Dante ramps up everything to the point of absurdity, channeling his love of Looney Tunes (including a specially produced Bugs and Daffy intro from the mighty Chuck Jones) with satirical swipes at Corporate culture, the diminishing returns of sequels, and postmodern references to the first film. Packed with cameos and references, this is a non-stop assault, which manages to be both utterly daft and really smart all at once. Watch (re-watch) to avoid spoilers and join us.
Twenty episodes after conquering the 1984 original, Marc and Jordan tackle Joe Dante's 1990 sequel. Given full creative control, and a bigger budget, Warner figured Dante would produce something sensible. He did not. It may be the Looniest film ever made, which helps considering the presence of Chuck Jones, Leonard Maltin and Jerry Goldsmith. Needless to say, we had a nice time with this one. Gremlins is a bona fide classic, heck, it helped create the PG-13 rating in America but when you say Gremlins 2 you typically get eye-rolls and groans of displeasure. How terribly wrong these nay-sayers are. In their defense, these scrooges were probably expecting more of what the first film gave us and weren't aware that Gremlins 2 is very much a spoof. If you haven't revisited this film in a while we urge you to go back with fresh eyes and bask in the glory of this ridiculous movie.
From Cute & Cuddly to Killer: Joe Dante's Gremlins and Gremlins 2: The New Batch This week Mr. Chavez & I continue our stroll through the 1980s with a look at a stange kind of Comedy/Puppetry/Action/Horror hybrid, Joe Dante's Gremlins (1984). Dante - a graduate of the Roger Corman School of Low-Budget Filmmaking - is one of the most criminally underappreciated directors of the 1980s and 1990s. The Howling, Explorers, The 'Burbs, Matinee, Innerspace, and Looney Tunes: Back in Action . . . Joe Dante has been a reliable, solid, and inventive filmmaker. Gremlins is what he calls, "the movie I'm going to be remembered for. If I get hit by a bus tomorrow, the headline is going to be 'Gremlins Director Hit By Bus'. I'll never do something that'll outlast that in terms of the public image of who I am – which is fine with me." Dante shouldn't be limited to this, but I will say that the both Gremlins films are exceptional and it was a thrill to return to them and have one of our wonderfully insightful talks. Take a listen and let us know what you think. As always, you can reach us at gondoramos@yahoo.com. Ever come across an old mixtape filled with tunes you'd completely forgotten? That's the kind of nostalgic magic Ana and Jimmy, aimed to recapture as they tackle their movie review for "Gremlins 2: The New Batch" in the latest podcast episode. Laugh along as they recount the hilariously heightened antics of these mischievous creatures taking over a high-tech skyscraper. From the film's memorable characters to its unique blend of horror-comedy, they dissect the elements that made this sequel a curious piece of cinema history. They're eager to share their chuckles and cringes as they not only revisit the standout scenes and cameos that became etched in our memories but also analyze the special effects that oscillate between charmingly retro and downright ludicrous. They even have their own gremlin-like technical issues that serve as the perfect backdrop to the chaotic theme of the movie. Though audio gremlins tried to thwart their podcasting efforts, Ana and Jimy persevered, leaving you with a heartful reflection on the journey of revisiting the childhood favorite "Gremlins 2."
