What does it take for a young DJ to carve out a meaningful career in Hawaii's competitive nightlife scene? CJ Park, son of industry veteran Jay Park, reveals the surprising truth behind his rise from playing $20 house parties to commanding major venue residencies and opening for artists like Little Wayne and T-Pain.The journey begins with humble origins – Park recalls being the kid who always brought speakers to high school parties, gradually honing his skills and musical intuition. But rather than riding his father's coattails, we learn how Park built his career through genuine connections, starting with a fortuitous gig DJing a yoga instructor's boat party that opened his eyes to the financial possibilities of his passion. What's striking about Park's story is his refreshing humility. Despite now holding coveted residencies at District, Ki Club, and other premier Honolulu venues, he speaks candidly about his early struggles with professional equipment and the pressure of knowing "if the DJ clears the house, nobody gets paid." His respect for veteran DJs and willingness to learn from them mirrors the mentorship dynamic host Thaddeus Park shares about nurturing DJ Hapa's  career through intentional challenges rather than easy opportunities.Perhaps most powerful is Park's brave disclosure about recently achieving two months of sobriety after recognizing some  issues were threatening both his career and well-being. In an industry saturated with temptation, his commitment to growth both personally and professionally offers an inspiring blueprint for sustainability in nightlife careers.Whether you're an aspiring DJ, nightlife enthusiast, or simply appreciate stories of authentic career development, this conversation offers valuable insights into the delicate balance of technical skill, business awareness, and personal integrity required to thrive in the entertainment world. Tune in to discover how CJ Park continues to "take them on a journey" while still evolving his own.ATBpod.com

The special 100th episode of Above the Bridge is where you'll find out!  This week Dj Hapa Boy hosts Thaddeus, as we take a deep dive into our journey, from the early days on the East Side of Oahu, to the success of this popular podcast. Growing up, we relished the competitive thrill and camaraderie of sports. As a proud father, I share the joy of my daughter Aria's journey into volleyball, her growing passion, and the robust support system we've nurtured around her. But that's not all! Dj Hapa boy takes us through his kick in the ass initiative, our shared experiences of taking risks, meeting new people, and the transformative power of these interactions.  As we celebrate a hundred episodes of heartfelt conversations, we also express our mutual gratitude and commitment. She is a recording artist, writer, television personality, producer, podcast host, empowering the Latinx community and women worldwide, mother, wife, and just all around superwoman! I met T on Instagram after I saw her post about family and how she juggles her family (which she puts first) and working in the entertainment industry. She focuses on helping working mothers with her two podcasts Mama Morsels and Mom Life Yo. She always has such a powerful and uplifting message and its awesome to see her be such an advocate for putting family first. Her husband DJ Hapa (who has an awesome podcast named A Tribe Called Dad) and her are raising two world changers and it is awesome to see them interact on social media. I got the pleasure to talk to T about a variety of topics. We discussed disconnecting when we are away with our significant others and how that can be a hard thing to do. We also talked about how family is the most important thing in our lives and how we try to model everything around that. She also gives some tips as to the state of the entertainment industry and what someone needs to do in order to be successful now. It was so amazing and refreshing to talk to someone that actually gets it! Trying to build up the Latinx community, trying to empower mothers, and making sure she is still present in her daughters lives! DJ Skee has retired from more successful careers than most people have ever had. He's been a DJ, producer, marketer, TV host. Mark Cuban called him the Oprah of music and he's been called the Ryan Seacrest of hip-hop. These days, he's the founder of Dash Radio, which aims to be the #1 online radio platform in the world. They're off to a good start: Dash hosts Rebel Radio on the Theory of Mind channel, and also features shows from many of our previous guests: Baka Boyz, DJ Hapa, Beat Junkies (Mr. Choc episode), Strange Music (Dave Weiner episode). We stopped by the Dash Radio studios to catch Skee on his location. No surprise — he's one of the sharpest minds you'll come across. Articulate, thoughtful, and fast. He fires off details and theories; we just try to keep up. Skee's formula for success: - Just go for it: take risks - Absorb information; do your research - Know when to let go so you can make room for the next thing Hope you enjoy the interview as much as we did. Epilepsy affects one in 26 people. Hapa is one of them. True to his nature, he doesn’t hide from his condition. Instead he uses it as a vehicle to inspire and enlighten. Kind of the same way he approaches his DJ career.  In part two of our interview, Hapa gives us some insight into how he handles obstacles, like being told he can’t go to college because of his epilepsy. And his secret for appreciating his life. He also tells us what’s up with his new label, Phil N Good, his Dash Radio show, Music Mornings, and how he continues to grow the Scratch DJ Academy. Calling Hapa a DJ doesn’t quite tell the whole story. Actually, his story is so big that we had to split the interview in to two episodes so we could bring you all of the lessons he has to share. In Part 1, we’ll dig into the beginnings of Hapa’s journey — from early inspiration from the Invisibl Scratch Picklz to becoming America’s first TV news DJ, to launching the LA campus of Scratch DJ Academy and helping build that brand as a leader in DJ culture. We get some insight into how Q-Bert is like a pro athlete and how Hapa used his outgoing nature to create opportunities for himself when he was starting out. Part 2 gets way more personal, so make sure you come back next week.
