The term “The Blob” has been used over these past five or so years to describe the endemic foreign policy mind of government of the US. Whether you are right leaning or left leaning, there is a certain conclusion that you likely share—and if you enjoy this commonly shared conclusion, it puts you in The Blob. The Blob seems to be a counterfeit to the Body. The Blob seeks to bring the earth into one mind, one spirit, one purpose—but it does this through military aggression, political subtly, and governmental overthrow. The Body seeks something eerily similar, but goes about doing it in a completely opposite way. In this episode, Eric and Nathan discuss The Blob and how God's desire is to actually use the Body.------------» Take these studies deeper and be discipled in person by Eric, Leslie, Nathan, and the team at Ellerslie in one of our upcoming discipleship programs – learn more at: https://ellerslie.com/be-discipled/» Receive our free “Five Keys to Walking Through Difficulty” PDF by going to: https://ellerslie.com/subscribe/» For more information about Daily Thunder and the ministry of Ellerslie Mission Society, please visit: https://ellerslie.com/daily» If you have been blessed by Ellerslie, consider partnering with the ministry by donating at: https://ellerslie.com/donate/» Discover more resources, books, and sermons from Eric Ludy by going to: https://ellerslie.com/about-eric-ludy/
Christians are called people of the light—we have been transferred from the Kingdom of Darkness and brought into the Kingdom of Light, where Jesus Himself is the Light. Congress is presently attempting to pack a lot into one big beautiful bill and get it on the President's desk for a signature. It would be a bill that cuts taxes, funds military strength, builds a strong border, kicks out the dangers in our country. All this in one bill. The work of the Cross was "One Big Beautiful Work." It accomplished everything needed for life and godliness in ONE singular action of ONE singular Man. In this discussion, Eric and Nathan talk about how amazing the cross is, how Jesus accomplished far more than merely forgiveness, and what this means for our lives. To some it might seem a risky thing to teach your children to start praying impossible prayers—prayers that could only be answered by an All-powerful God. After all, what if God chooses to not respond? What if your kids are left dangling in their young faith because God fails to show up? Of course, those that have walked the triumphant heavenly path of faith lined with the golden bricks of divine faithfulness know that God ALWAYS responds to prayers of genuine faith, especially those that are God-sized and wholly impossible. ------------» Take these studies deeper and be discipled in person by Eric, Leslie, Nathan, and the team at Ellerslie in one of our upcoming discipleship programs – learn more at: https://ellerslie.com/be-discipled/» Receive our free “Five Keys to Walking Through Difficulty” PDF by going to: https://ellerslie.com/subscribe/» For more information about Daily Thunder and the ministry of Ellerslie Mission Society, please visit: https://ellerslie.com/daily» If you have been blessed by Ellerslie, consider partnering with the ministry by donating at: https://ellerslie.com/donate/» Discover more resources, books, and sermons from Eric Ludy by going to: https://ellerslie.com/about-eric-ludy/
After describing some aspects of the darkness—sexual immorality, impurity, greed, idolatry, and filthy/foolish talk—Paul says that while these things may have defined our lives in the past, we are not to continue partaking of them. In Christ Jesus, we have been set free from the authority of darkness and are now in Christ Jesus who is the Light; therefore, we must walk as children of light. In this study, we examine Ephesians 5:7–8 and ask the question “whose side are we on?”—in other words, are we going to continue to live in sin and darkness, or are we going to live in the Light of Jesus?------------» Take these studies deeper and be discipled in person by Nathan, Eric, Leslie, and the team at Ellerslie in one of our upcoming discipleship programs – learn more at: https://ellerslie.com/be-discipled/» Receive our free “Five Keys to Walking Through Difficulty” PDF by going to: https://ellerslie.com/subscribe/» For more information about Daily Thunder and the ministry of Ellerslie Mission Society, please visit: https://ellerslie.com/daily» If you have been blessed by Ellerslie, consider partnering with the ministry by donating at: https://ellerslie.com/donate/» Discover more Christ-centered teaching and resources from Nathan Johnson that will help you grow spiritually by checking out his website at: https://deeperchristian.com/
Whether its through distraction, fear, or passivity, we often loose our gumption to think and act big in this world. We prefer to have someone else live big for us. Yet, Jesus wants to live big through us. In this conversation, Eric and Nathan explore the concept of thinking big, what does that mean practically, and how do it relate to the importance of tending to the small areas of our lives. According to Scripture, children are like arrows in the hand of the warrior. Any one who has kids may wish to question such a notion. Arrows? Strength? Weakness, liability, and inconvenience would appear to be better descriptions. But the Bible is correct. Our modern culture celebrates ungodliness and sinful behavior—and it has seeped into the Church where leaders are encouraging Christians to live however they want and indulge in every kind of sin. But Paul warns in Ephesians 5:6 that we are not to be deceived by the “empty words” of people who endorse the things God has called sin. In this study, Nathan examines Paul's warning, and reminds us that because a judgment is coming, we must take sin seriously.------------» Take these studies deeper and be discipled in person by Nathan, Eric, Leslie, and the team at Ellerslie in one of our upcoming discipleship programs – learn more at: https://ellerslie.com/be-discipled/» Receive our free “Five Keys to Walking Through Difficulty” PDF by going to: https://ellerslie.com/subscribe/» For more information about Daily Thunder and the ministry of Ellerslie Mission Society, please visit: https://ellerslie.com/daily» If you have been blessed by Ellerslie, consider partnering with the ministry by donating at: https://ellerslie.com/donate/» Discover more Christ-centered teaching and resources from Nathan Johnson that will help you grow spiritually by checking out his website at: https://deeperchristian.com/

America has a massive trade deficit, and while this may not be a good thing economically, does a "trade deficit" spiritually reveal a problem? In this discussion, Eric and Nathan talk about God's "trade deficit" with humanity and how His pattern actually is how Christianity operates. Procrastination is not a friend of functional Christianity. Rather, it's a sworn enemy. Everything that makes Christianity work is based on “doing” and “action”. God goes out of his way to explain to us in the Scriptures that we can't be tares, we must be wheat. We can't be virgins without oil, we must be virgins with oil. And we mustn't be goats that doddle, but sheep that do. Christianity was never meant to be a mere mental game where we sit around and muse and conjecture about theology. It was intended to be actually vigorously applied and lived out. And for that to happen, procrastination can no longer be invited into the storyline of our lives. ------------» Take these messages deeper and be discipled in person by Eric, Leslie, Nathan, and the team at Ellerslie in one of our upcoming discipleship programs – learn more at: https://ellerslie.com/be-discipled/» Receive our free “Five Keys to Walking Through Difficulty” PDF by going to: https://ellerslie.com/subscribe/» If you have been blessed by Ellerslie, consider partnering with the ministry by donating at: https://ellerslie.com/donate/» Discover more resources, books, and sermons from Eric Ludy by going to: https://ellerslie.com/about-eric-ludy/
In our sensually-saturated culture, even the church has begun to question whether victory in the area of sexuality is possible in a Christian's life. Yet, Scripture makes it clear that not only is it possible to be set free from all sexual deviancy and live in purity, integrity, and freedom, but we can actually triumph in our sexuality for the glory of Jesus Christ. In this study of Ephesians 5:3, Nathan talks about one of the central burdens of the Early Church—not even a hint of sexual immorality, impurity, or greed in our lives—what the heart of the issue is and how we can walk in freedom in this area through the Gospel.------------» Take these studies deeper and be discipled in person by Nathan, Eric, Leslie, and the team at Ellerslie in one of our upcoming discipleship programs – learn more at: https://ellerslie.com/be-discipled/» Receive our free “Five Keys to Walking Through Difficulty” PDF by going to: https://ellerslie.com/subscribe/» For more information about Daily Thunder and the ministry of Ellerslie Mission Society, please visit: https://ellerslie.com/daily» If you have been blessed by Ellerslie, consider partnering with the ministry by donating at: https://ellerslie.com/donate/» Discover more Christ-centered teaching and resources from Nathan Johnson that will help you grow spiritually by checking out his website at: https://deeperchristian.com/
In this follow-up discussion from last week, Eric and Nathan talk about mercy and how regardless of where we are with sin, mercy is always available. While a difficult subject to discuss, lest we keep on sinning so grace can abound, Eric and Nathan talk about why the concept of mercy is so significant in light of waste, fraud, and abuse found in our lives. They remind us that while God's mercy is always available, His desire for His people is that we would walk in holiness, righteousness, purity, and godliness. There are two kingdoms—the Kingdom of God and the Kingdom of the World—and the contrast between them is great. Paul makes it clear that as Christians, our lives are to be marked and measured by the King of the Kingdom of which we live. As such, Christians (saints, holy ones) are not to live like the world around us, rather our lives are to evidence God's holiness, purity, righteousness, and godliness. In this study, we examine Ephesians 5:3 and Paul's command that we are not to have a hint of the behavior and lifestyle of the world within us.------------» Take these studies deeper and be discipled in person by Nathan, Eric, Leslie, and the team at Ellerslie in one of our upcoming discipleship programs – learn more at: https://ellerslie.com/be-discipled/» Receive our free “Five Keys to Walking Through Difficulty” PDF by going to: https://ellerslie.com/subscribe/» For more information about Daily Thunder and the ministry of Ellerslie Mission Society, please visit: https://ellerslie.com/daily» If you have been blessed by Ellerslie, consider partnering with the ministry by donating at: https://ellerslie.com/donate/» Discover more Christ-centered teaching and resources from Nathan Johnson that will help you grow spiritually by checking out his website at: https://deeperchristian.com/
When we become Christians, everything in our lives is supposed to change. There is a beautiful paradox with the body of Christ—Jesus supplies everything we need for life and godliness, yet we as the body are to build each other up in love, causing the growth of the body. Paul reminds us in Ephesians 4:15–16 that Jesus is the head of the Church, but he exhorts the body to be abundantly supplied by Christ to function, grow, and mature as the body is called to be. In this study, Nathan walks through the passage and encourages us to think and live as a community of believers, rather than as individuals that go to church together.------------» Take these studies deeper and be discipled in person by Nathan, Eric, Leslie, and the team at Ellerslie in one of our upcoming discipleship programs – learn more at: https://ellerslie.com/be-discipled/» Receive our free “Five Keys to Walking Through Difficulty” PDF by going to: https://ellerslie.com/subscribe/» For more information about Daily Thunder and the ministry of Ellerslie Mission Society, please visit: https://ellerslie.com/daily» If you have been blessed by Ellerslie, consider partnering with the ministry by donating at: https://ellerslie.com/donate/» Discover more Christ-centered teaching and resources from Nathan Johnson that will help you grow spiritually by checking out his website at: https://deeperchristian.com/
There are things in life that are naturally attractive to us as humans (ie. flowers, sunsets, and poetry). Tribulation is definitely not on that list. In fact, we will go to great lengths to avoid it. But, as believers in Christ, it is essential that we recalibrate our thinking regarding this very important thing known as tribulation. Because according to God's Word, tribulation is the Holy Spirit's primary tool used to fashion the saints of God into Christ-showcasing men and women.------------» Take these messages deeper and be discipled in person by Eric, Leslie, Nathan, and the team at Ellerslie in one of our upcoming discipleship programs – learn more at: https://ellerslie.com/be-discipled/» Receive our free “Five Keys to Walking Through Difficulty” PDF by going to: https://ellerslie.com/subscribe/» If you have been blessed by Ellerslie, consider partnering with the ministry by donating at: https://ellerslie.com/donate/» Discover more resources, books, and sermons from Eric Ludy by going to: https://ellerslie.com/about-eric-ludy/

Leslie continues the He Is series with a Biblical look at what it means to find our righteousness in Jesus Christ alone. Leslie unpacks the Biblical pattern for being clothed in the righteousness of Christ instead of relying on our own self-effort and human rules to be right with God. She explains that as healthy as personal convictions can be, they must always be an outflow of our love for Jesus Christ, not what we find our hope and identity in. When personal convictions are placed above Christ, they make us susceptible to self-righteousness and spiritual pride. And when that happens we completely miss the miracle of Jesus as our righteousness. This episode reminds us of the importance of abiding in Christ and placing our hope and identity in Him instead of in our own self-righteousness.For more resources from Leslie, visit https://setapart.org/. Whereas the Fear of God is the beginning of good things—things like wisdom and knowledge. The fear of man is also the beginning of some things. But the things that the fear of man begins are not at all pleasant. For instance, the fear of man fosters a derangement of the human brain. It causes said brain to stop questioning the obvious, to turn off all reasonableness, and forsake all common sense. In our world today we call the fear of man political/social correctness. It's where someone chooses to act upon what is “correct” in the world's eyes over what is actually true in God's Word. Who would do such a ridiculous thing as that? Well, if you are looking for a case study—look no further than yourself. Every last one of us, whether we are presently walking in this strange “fear of man” behavior or not, have had plenty of experience doing so at some juncture of our lives.------------» Take these studies deeper and be discipled in person by Eric, Leslie, Nathan, and the team at Ellerslie in one of our upcoming discipleship programs – learn more at: https://ellerslie.com/be-discipled/» Receive our free “Five Keys to Walking Through Difficulty” PDF by going to: https://ellerslie.com/subscribe/» For more information about Daily Thunder and the ministry of Ellerslie Mission Society, please visit: https://ellerslie.com/daily» If you have been blessed by Ellerslie, consider partnering with the ministry by donating at: https://ellerslie.com/donate/» Discover more resources, books, and sermons from Eric Ludy by going to: https://ellerslie.com/about-eric-ludy/

Eric and Leslie were best-selling authors and internationally traveling speakers that were used to speaking to thousands at a time, when God called them to walk away from that path, come off the road, and speak to only a handful for a season. Why? What good could come out of such a shrinkage of influence and voice? This call to the small was the necessary step that prepared the Ludys for the launch of Ellerslie in 2009.

Leslie continues the He Is series with an exploration of Jesus as our Wisdom. We often reason according to human logic, but Heavenly wisdom reasons according to an entirely different pattern. The modern Church is filled with subtle error, so we must apply Heavenly wisdom to every message or idea we encounter. As Leslie explains in this episode, Jesus Himself is the Wisdom of God. Knowing Jesus, walking with Him and being rooted in His Word is what equips us to proactively protect our souls against the enemy's insipid lies and walk in His Heavenly wisdom. For more resources from Leslie, visit https://setapart.org/. In this episode as part of the He Is series, Leslie unpacks Biblical keys to finding lasting joy in Christ. If persecuted Christians can rejoice in their prison cells, if impoverished people can be cheerful amidst their circumstances, and if the Apostle Paul could be happy even with his unimaginable trials, what excuse do we have not to embrace lasting joy? And yet many of us struggle with the pitfall of "delayed happiness", basing our joy on specific circumstances, hopes or dreams. In this message Leslie helps us transition from circumstantial happiness to unshakeable joy no matter what our circumstances - in Christ. For more resources from Leslie, visit https://setapart.org/. The book of Ruth ends with a genealogy. While many Westerners are quick to jump over such lists, this one should cause us to pause and stand in awe. As the book of Ruth nears its end, everything appears to be topsy-turvy. Boaz gets the girl, Naomi gets a son, a Moabitess is blessed by Israelites, and the nanny is cared for by the child. Despite the appearance of everything being upside-down and a bit backwards, the mercy, providence, and love of God is front and center. Join Nathan in this study of Ruth 4:11–17 and see how even topsy-turvy circumstances can lead us unto Christ Jesus.------------» Take these studies deeper and be discipled in person by Nathan, Eric, Leslie, and the team at Ellerslie in one of our upcoming discipleship programs – learn more at: https://ellerslie.com/be-discipled/» Receive our free “Five Keys to Walking Through Difficulty” PDF by going to: https://ellerslie.com/subscribe/» For more information about Daily Thunder and the ministry of Ellerslie Mission Society, please visit: https://ellerslie.com/daily» If you have been blessed by Ellerslie, consider partnering with the ministry by donating at: https://ellerslie.com/donate/» Discover more Christ-centered teaching and resources from Nathan Johnson that will help you grow spiritually by checking out his website at: https://deeperchristian.com/
Readiness is a vastly underrated quality of the healthy Christian life. But, readiness doesn't come about accidentally. A believer needs to practice and train in readiness. And if it isn't practiced, then the believer will be found unready in the moment where alertness, action, and agreement is desperately needed. The quality of readiness is one of the beautiful hallmarks of William Wilberforce's life. And it is one of the chief reasons why his life impacted the world.------------» Take these studies deeper and be discipled in person by Eric, Leslie, Nathan, and the team at Ellerslie in one of our upcoming discipleship programs – learn more at: https://ellerslie.com/be-discipled/» Receive our free “Five Keys to Walking Through Difficulty” PDF by going to: https://ellerslie.com/subscribe/» For more information about Daily Thunder and the ministry of Ellerslie Mission Society, please visit: https://ellerslie.com/daily» If you have been blessed by Ellerslie, consider partnering with the ministry by donating at: https://ellerslie.com/donate/» Discover more resources, books, and sermons from Eric Ludy by going to: https://ellerslie.com/about-eric-ludy/
Throughout the book of Ruth, we encounter the concept of a “kinsman redeemer,” but few of us understand the importance and profundity of this redemption by a relative. The Christian life is a bit counter-intuitive at first (ie. the least is the greatest, the servant is the leader, and weakness is a place of strength). It takes a bit for the newly budded Christian to grasp such an upside down pattern, but when it's finally grasped, the path opens up for great spiritual growth and maturity. This message focuses on the arduous year of 1793 in Great Britain—a year of war, famine, and economic instability—and it showcases how difficulty can actually be a good thing—a tremendously beneficial thing when embraced and received with faith.
In Joshua chapter 17, the Mountain Country is not the desirable land. It's rocky, forested. filled with Canaanite giants, and, these Canaanites giants have iron chariots, to boot! So, it isn't any surprise when Ephraim and Manasseh receive their tract of land in the Mountain Country that it translated to them as a bit of a downer. We all have the same tendency to underrate the value of the Mountain Country in our own lives. Most of us simply want flat farm land without any obstacles, hindrances, or foes nearby. But, God loves us too much to give us something that dull and boring. Our God specializes in supplying us with the perfect land to match our soul's need. He is in the business of growing us up to be mighty, and there is nothing quite like a tract of Mountain Country to do the job.
In a desperation for food, Ruth decides to glean in the fields of Bethlehem. Not knowing where she is going, she “just so happened” to find herself in the fields of Boaz. This miraculous meeting becomes the avenue for God to showcase His lovingkindness (hesed) to Ruth and Naomi, providing far more than they could ever have hoped or imagined. In this study of Ruth 2:1–23, we discover that even when it feels that God is distant or not doing anything, He IS at work and He has not forgotten us—for His lovingkindness endures forever.------------» Take these studies deeper and be discipled in person by Nathan, Eric, Leslie, and the team at Ellerslie in one of our upcoming discipleship programs – learn more at: https://ellerslie.com/be-discipled/» Receive our free “Five Keys to Walking Through Difficulty” PDF by going to: https://ellerslie.com/subscribe/» For more information about Daily Thunder and the ministry of Ellerslie Mission Society, please visit: https://ellerslie.com/daily» If you have been blessed by Ellerslie, consider partnering with the ministry by donating at: https://ellerslie.com/donate/» Discover more Christ-centered teaching and resources from Nathan Johnson that will help you grow spiritually by checking out his website at: https://deeperchristian.com/
Difficulties and uncertainty often arise in our lives when we least expect it. The question we must answer in such moments is not “why” but “how”…“how does God want to use this challenge in my life?” In this study from Ruth 1:3–22, we discover that Naomi's life is at rock bottom, her life is practically over—and sadly, she blames her bitterness on God. Yet amidst the story, we find beautiful hope in Ruth the Moabitess. The Body of Christ is uniquely designed as a purging agent of cultural fungus. But to effectively wipe out the demonic ideas and the sinful societal fog of the hour, the Church needs to do its cleansing work in accordance with the Christ pattern. And this involves a two-handed approach to the work of rescue and resuscitation. In other words, both the right and left hands are needed to carry out the job. The head and heart are both essential and mustn't be disconnected. And truth and mercy must both attend the work and the two must never be estranged. When we emphasize one side over and above the other side, the cultural fungus just laughs at our do-gooder attempts. The secret is found in both hands working in perfect coordination according to the perfect mixture as assigned by the Holy Spirit.
