Be blown away by today's One80 with Josh McDowell. He used to wait for Christians to speak out in class so that he could tear them up. That is, before Josh encountered Jesus himself. After some of these very students issued a challenge for Josh to disprove Christianity, hear how his quest brought him to the person of truth and took him from skeptic to one of the country's greatest evangelists, as well as the father of modern apologetics. Josh has faithfully served with Cru as an evangelist for 60 years. He's written more than 150 books, and given over 32,000 talks in 139 countries, addressing more than 46 million. Be encouraged by the power of forgiveness and incredible restoration in Josh's moving story. If they made apologetics action figures, Josh McDowell would be one of the figures in the first set. If they made apologetics trading cards, Josh McDowell's card would be in a collectible foil pack. He has toured with the pioneering Christian rock band Petra, and his book Evidence that Demands a Verdict was selected by Christianity Today as the thirteenth most influential Christian book published after the Second World War. Now, he's here with us on this very special episode of The Apologetics Podcast. In 1991, "Losing My Religion" by R.E.M. was at the top of the pop charts, and Timothy was looking for evidence that Christianity was true. That's when two books that Timothy found in a library introduced him to apologetics. Those books were Surprised by Joy by C.S. Lewis and More Than a Carpenter by Josh McDowell. More than thirty years after Timothy first read More Than a Carpenter, Josh McDowell joins the dynamic duo to discuss his latest book How to Know God Exists: Solid Reasons to Believe in God, Discover Truth, and Find Meaning in Your Life (Tyndale, 2022). Josh also takes the time to reminisce about some of the ways that apologetics has shifted throughout his six decades of ministry. Along the way, he tells about his time touring with the Christian hard rock band Petra. In the segment of the program known as Raiders of Church History, it's a medieval mammal against ancient metal in a contest so violent that you may want to cover your children's eyes while they're listening. The violence breaks out because your intrepid cohosts throw a resurrected lamb into combat against a set of ancient spikes. The contest culminates with a Mediterranean feast, complete with trout and mutton shish-kebabs. ABOUT YOUR HOSTS AND GUEST Josh McDowell is a Christian apologist, evangelist, and author. In this episode, I respond to some Wesleyan individuals who have, in my opinion, naively claimed that apologetics has no place in Wesleyanism. I have a baker's dozen questions to ask individuals who hold this position. In the meantime, I show how, if you take John Wesley as your example or believe the Wesleyan quadrilateral, you should believe that apologetics is Wesleyan. The truth and accuracy of the Bible is often called into question by those yet to believe, including scholars. By strictly looking at the facts, Josh McDowell, author of the bestseller Evidence That Demands A Verdict, reveals the foundation of the Bible and shows why the Old and New Testaments are even more accurate than popular classic texts from Greek philosophers like Homer, Euripides and Aristotle. This sermon will revive confidence in every believer that the Bible is the whole and infallible Word of God, and that the Word has the power to transform lives and the world in which we live.
The book Evidence That Demands A Verdict celebrates 45 years since it was first published! That means it is older than most parents of current classical christian students! But is a book that boasts such a title still relevant in this new age where feelings rule? Do logical arguments and evidence even work anymore to convince people that Christianity is worth taking seriously? Dr. Sean McDowell offers classical Christian schools and parents practical advice about how to relate more intentionally, especially to young people who indulge their feelings and often believe that traditional values are mean, insensitive and bigoted. Dr. McDowell explains that there are definitely better ways to relate than just offering the evidence to believe - but we still need to do that, too! Tune in to find out how!
Is the Bible believable? If it is then we should take notice and seriously look into what it has to say. If it isn't believable, then Christianity is a false religion. How do we know if we can believe it? That is what this message is about. Listen in to find out if you can indeed trust in and believe what the Bible has to say.
Josh McDowell has spoken to approximately 35 million people, in 140 countries.
